REBIRTH OF ESMERALDA
.Chapter 3: ache of betrayal.*Esme’s POV*“Okay. How do I do this?.” I muttered to myself as I pushed my two hands behind the chair I was tied on closer to each other so I can be able to untie the rope.I hastily spared a glance at my sister who was busy speaking with the hunk who had kidnapped me in the first place. The rage in me was already overcoming the love that I had for my sister. My heart was burning in the ache of being betrayed by someone who I thought was dear to me.I strained hands a little closer to each other but it wasn’t helping which made me sigh out in defeat.Mercedes turned to me on hearing that noise as she pointed the gun she was holding at me as if to say ‘no funny business’ before turning back to her crime partner.I rolled my eyes looking away as I sigh again but this time out of sadness. I look up trying to blink the incoming tears away while thinking of every possible way to escape the dirty warehouse I was placed in and my jealous money deluded sister.God knows when I’m getting out of here, Mercedes is the first person I’m putting a restraint on.That’s if I get out of here.Only she knows how much longer she intends on keeping me here.I squeezed my eyes shut, whining at the uncomfortable position I’m in. I try to stretch my arms to try again, but— they’re still tied hardly.I whimper as the rough rope scratches against my wrists while I struggle to get out of it.“Stop that.”I look away from straining my neck to, cowering back at the head huncho who’s dangerously close to me than ever. The chair’s uncomfortable and rocky, making creaking sounds whenever I made the smallest of movements. My arms are starting to hurt, and I wonders how long till they untie me. My ankles are cramping up as well, being tied tightly to the legs of the chair.“Don’t fucking touch me.” I snap, turning my face away when I see the man’s finger edge towards my cheek.“You ought to get beaten up for that, you little—“ The taller snarls and raises his hand, but then my sister, no scratch that, Mercedes stops him.“Stop, you can’t lay a finger on her. Do you understand that?”He grunts and steps away, shooting me a warning glare. “She pisses me off, she’s just a useless piece on a chess board used only by the player when they want to get what they want.” The man scoffs, looking at me from head to toe. “Bet I could take your little boyfriend down in seconds. I won’t be surprised if he doesn’t even show up.”I would be lying if I said I wasn’t hurt by those words, but I pushed my feelings aside, face turning grim. “Say another word, I dare you.” I mutter. No one ever insults Maverick Gunner. The head huncho snickers, looking to Mercedes as if whatever I had just said was a total joke. “Princess thinks she’s scary, huh?” His eyes turn into slits, staring at me bounded up in the chair like a hungry animal. The nickname sounds disgusting coming out from the man’s mouth, a whole different feeling compared to when my late father says it.“Let me get this straight, princess.”Coming up close to me, he grabs onto my chin, his musty fingernails digging into my milky skin. “You think you are leaving here alive? Think again! Because you are never going to make it. And that boyfriend of yours.” He chuckled giving me an eerie smile. “Let’s just see how it goes, maybe he will come save you.”He laughs at his last sentence as Mercedes let out a small laugh too from where she was standing. My eyebrows furrow up as I try to escape from his dirty grip, holding my breath at the close proximity between the two of us.“Get the fuck away from me.” I eventually grumbled, utterly annoyed that I can’t use my hands to simply push him away.“I could kill you now in seconds, and I’m not scared to try— Fuck! Shit—“A string of curses spill out of his mouth, hands cupping his crotch. I smirk, holding back a laugh. It was his fault for coming that close to me and spewing those ugly words about Maverick and I.He groans, bending over, looking up to glare at his attacker through his bangs.“You’re going to pay for that.” He slowly gets back up, ignoring Mercedes’s whiny protests on how he should stop.“Give me all you’ve got.” I smiled sweetly, and maybe I shouldn’t have said that, because I would be regretting it in a while.A punch is flung to my cheek, and I swear I heard my jaw crack. My head whips to the side while I tries not to whimper, mouth sealed shut.“Must be fun, being bound up in a chair, hm?” The man above me laughs, lifting his leg to throw a kick against my ribs and now, I do choke out a cry, because that hurt like a bitch. I doubt that my ribs aren’t broken by now.It goes on for about ten more minutes, until my knuckles have turned bright pink from all the punching, and pants could be heard, both from the man and I.“Look at your pretty face, all bruised up.” He presses onto my crooked nose, making me scream in pain, more blood spilling out and flowing down my chin.“Are you done, Constance?” Mercedes who was standing at the side the entire time, watching him beat me up. “This whole thing is going to be screwed because of you.”“Is that all you’ve got?” I heave, spitting out the blood that dribbled into my mouth. “You punch like a little girl.”Constance, I have learned his name now, whips his head to me, squinting at me.“What’d you just say?”“I said you punch like a little girl. Heard that loud and clear? Or do I have to repeat myself?” I stammer a little, distracted by the pain but I still continue. “I’ve never seen such a weakling like you—“Another slap to my face. A few more punches to my already broken nose and misshapen cheek, and some kicks to my ribs and stomach. My chair topples backwards from the force, and my fingers get crushed against the cement. I pressed my lips into a thin line to muffle my screams, but tears keep on spilling and spilling and I just want Maverick to hold me and say everything’s going to be okay.A sob escapes past my lips, and that was a mistake. Constance laughs, basking in the sound of my pain. “Not so confident now, huh?”“Christ, get off of her!” Mercedes pull him away from me on the chair, forehead creased in worry. “Look at what you’ve done!”I’m barely conscious at this point, eyes half closed as blood runs down my head and nose and down to my chin. I look like a mess — purple bruises forming all over as spit trickles from my mouth. My entire face is swollen and coloured crimson red, and every movement hurts. It hurts, bad.“He said to get her in one piece. In perfect condition. What part of that did you not understand?” Mercedes mutters, shaking her head as she goes forward to lift the chair back up, with much difficulty with Esmeralda’s weight.“Like I give a shit about what he says. Little princess here can’t follow simple instructions either.”I heave and pant, spitting out the blood when I choke on some of it. I wiggle my fingers around the tight rope, grimacing at the roughness against my skin. My legs are starting to cramp up, being tied up to the chair for… I don’t even know. Was it day or night? I’ve lost track of time.“No one’s coming to save you, you hear me?” Constance hovers over me, grabbing my hair and pulling it up. Tears trickle down my cheeks as the pain gets worse, and the hope in me starts to die down. It’s been so long, and I’m in so much pain, when will he come to save me?I just wanted to go to work.I sniff, snot and tears mixing with the blood on my face. No, I protest in my head. Maverick will come. I trust him.I manage to scoff despite blood spilling out of my mouth because of that. “You are so pathetic. Beating up a girl and exercising your stupid macho over a girl that’s tied up. Untie me and see what I do to your useless ass.” I say daring him as I stared directly into his eyes.Constance snorts pointing a finger at me as he called out to Mercedes. “Can you believe your sister?.”My face contorts into a frown at being called Mercedes’s sister.“She wants you to play with her.” Mercedes replied from where she stood. “Won’t you play with her?.”Constance looked back at me. “I untie you, you run. I know your plan, princess, you are not so smart.”“Oh so you are scared then?.” I gave a fake shock widening my lips as if surprised. “You had the power to beat me while I was strapped to this chair. Untie me so I can show you why I have a black belt in judo.”“I’m not scared of a girl.” He replied emphasizing on the ‘girl’ part. He crouched to my level. “There’s nothing to be scared of. Daddy’s little princess can’t beat me.”Annoyance creeped into my soul at the mention of my dead father but I let that slide. I take a few jabs just for my escape plan to work.“Puck! Puck! Puck!.” I immediately made a sound of the chicken. I paused sighing. “Oh wait, I didn’t do it well, can you teach me, Coco? I mean, you are good at being a chicken!.” I fired back at him.“Alright princess you asked for it, I’ll—.”“I’ll play with you, Esme.” Mercedes replied from where she stood cutting him off.She walked over to where I was, grinning from one side to the other as she stopped in front of me.“Let’s play together, Esme. But another game called hide and go seek.” Mercedes said as she grabbed my chin forcing me to look her in the eyes. “You like that game, don’t you? You used to play it all the—.”“Shut the fuck up!.” I gritted my teeth out of anger.Mercedes showed me a pocket knife she was holding behind her and I went silent immediately. She walked to my back and my heart was beating tremendously wondering what she was doing until I heard a big snap. The ropes! She cut the ropes.I brought my hands together in front and wiggles my legs looking at her with surprise depicted on my facial features. She cut the ropes!“Alright Esme, I untied the ropes like you asked.” Mercedes said coming around to stand in front of me. I could see mischief in her eyes before she spoke. “Let’s play hide and seek now.” She stepped away from me going meters backward. “You run and I’ll find you.”Scared, I look back at Constance who also shifted backwards, meters away from me. They were at a far distance now urging me to run. This was a set up! I concluded in my head.“Time is ticking, Esmeralda.” Mercedes said giving me a wide smile. Her smile more creepier than her actions.Taking a deep breath, I stood up and began running towards the entrance. I didn’t bother to look back as I swiftly ran out of the warehouse. It took 3 minutes of me running before I finally stopped, to catch my breath. I panted looking backwards to see they didn’t follow me.Confusion traced my features as I looked around trying to find a way out. There was nothing! I was in an abandoned area.No matter where I run to! They will always find me, that’s why they let me go easily..TO BE CONTINUED.Hope you guys enjoy this chapter. What if she wants to release me? My hope gets raised up thinking that but I quickly weltered it away not wanting to give myself any aspirations.I used to hold Mercedes in high expectations as she was the only sister I had. She had always protected me from harm ever since we were little. And now ... everything just seems so unbelievable. The fact that Mercedes would actually try to have me killed makes my heart ache. Heaving out a huge sigh, I decide to try running again. I drag myself along the way as I stood up sluggishly looking around for any signs of humane presence. But none.Shaking away dreadful thoughts, my legs continue moving forward on its own not giving my brain any chance to process my awaiting death. No way Mercedes would allow me
REBIRTH OF ESMERALDA .Chapter 5: betrayal and the un-loyal . As the first rays of dawn painted the sky in hues of orange and pink, Esmeralda began to stir from her induced slumber. Slowly, she became aware of her surroundings—the cool breeze against her skin, the rustling leaves overhead, and the unmistakable sensation of restraints digging into her wrists. Her eyes snapped open, and panic washed over her like a tidal wave as she realized the grim reality of her situation. She was no longer in the confines of a dark and dingy warehouse. Instead, she found herself in the heart of the wilderness, chained to a gnarled oak tree. The rough bark pressed uncomfortably against her back, and the chain that bound her felt like a cold, unyielding shackle.Fear coursed through her veins as she attempted to move, but her struggles were met with futility. She was trapped, vulnerable, and at the mercy of the very people who had betrayed her—the sister she once trusted, Mercedes, and the man
REBIRTH OF ESMERALDA .Chapter 6: the vow of revenge . The minutes stretched into an uneasy silence, with Esmeralda left alone in the dimly lit campsite, her wrists still bound by unforgiving chains. Her gaze remained fixed on the spot where Mercedes had vanished into the shadows of the forest. The crackling of the campfire provided a dissonant soundtrack to her thoughts, each pop and hiss echoing the tumultuous emotions swirling within her. The night air, once cool and refreshing, now seemed to carry an oppressive weight, suffocating her as she waited. And then, like a harbinger of foreboding, Mercedes emerged from the darkness, carrying two shovels slung over her shoulder. The moonlight painted her features with an eerie, ghostly pallor, emphasizing the stark determination etched into her face.Esmeralda's confusion was palpable as she watched her sister return with the tools of her own demise. The question that weighed on her heart formed in her mind, but she couldn't bring her
REBIRTH OF ESMERALDA .Chapter 7: whispers into the moonlight .The night was cloaked in an inky darkness as Axel Gunner sped down the winding forest road. His heart hammered in his chest, a relentless drumbeat of urgency that pushed him forward. He couldn't afford to lose any more time; he needed to find Esmeralda before it was too late. The dense canopy of trees overhead blocked out most of the moonlight, casting eerie shadows that seemed to reach out and grab at his car. The narrow road twisted and turned unpredictably, challenging Axel's every move. With every mile he covered, Axel's desperation grew. He had been following a trail of breadcrumbs left by his brother, Maverick, who had been acting suspiciously. Axel couldn't shake the feeling that Esmeralda, his mate, was in grave danger. His headlights sliced through the darkness, revealing fleeting glimpses of the forest's untamed beauty. But beauty was the last thing on Axel's mind. He was focused on the faint glimmer of hope
REBIRTH OF ESMERALDA .Chapter 8: labyrinth of secrets .The morning sun streamed through the window, casting a warm glow across Axel Gunner's bedroom. He stirred in his sleep, his mind gradually surfacing from the depths of dreams. But as he blinked his eyes open and looked around, confusion washed over him like a tidal wave. This wasn't where he had fallen asleep. He had been on the outskirts of the forest, by Esmeralda's grave, consumed by grief and exhaustion. Axel pushed himself up on his elbows, taking in his surroundings with growing bewilderment. The room was undoubtedly his, but how had he ended up here? His memory was a foggy haze, and he couldn't recall making the journey back to the city, let alone returning to his own bedroom. It was as though he had been transported against his will.He swung his legs over the side of the bed, intending to storm out of the room and seek answers. But as he made to stand, the blaring of his alarm clock filled the air. Axel paused, his br
REBIRTH OF ESMERALDA .Chapter 9: hidden desires . Esmeralda descended the grand staircase of the mansion, her footsteps echoing softly in the opulent hallway. The sensation of being in her childhood home was both familiar and disorienting. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, that she was trapped in a surreal dream. As she reached the bottom of the stairs, she caught sight of her sister, Mercedes, who was standing near the entrance to the kitchen. Mercedes wore a warm smile, a striking contrast to the cold and calculated sister Esmeralda remembered from her previous life. Her sister's transformation was unsettling, to say the least."Esme!" Mercedes called out, her voice dripping with sweetness. She approached Esmeralda with open arms, as if they were the best of friends.Esmeralda's brows furrowed in confusion. "Mercedes," she replied cautiously, accepting the hug but keeping her guard up. "What's going on?"Mercedes pulled back, her hands still resting on Esm
REBIRTH OF ESMERALDA .Chapter 10: echoes of the past . The morning sun painted warm, golden streaks across Axel Gunner's bedroom as he sat at his desk, his laptop open in front of him. He had set a reminder on his phone for today, a special occasion that he couldn't afford to forget. Even if he wasn’t going through thoughts of what had happened the day before. It was Ariana's birthday, Maribel's daughter, and Axel had a surprise in store for her.As the clock ticked closer to the designated time, Axel closed his laptop and reached for his phone. The reminder chimed again and he swiped it open to reveal a picture of Ariana with a big smile on her face. She was turning another year older, and Axel wanted to make this day memorable for her.Axel immediately started a video call with Maribel hoping to join in on the celebration even if he couldn’t be there. The previous time this day occurred, he was there. Anything to see the sight of Esme and his brother canoodling but now, he w
REBIRTH OF ESMERALDA .Chapter 11: twin pools of liquid jade .The atmosphere in the Moon Valley family kitchen was charged with an unusual tension. Mercedes, still puzzled by Axel's shocked reaction upon seeing Esmeralda, exchanged a bewildered glance with her sister. It was clear that something had shifted, something unspoken hung in the air, and Mercedes couldn't quite put her finger on it.As Axel continued to stare at Esmeralda, his brows furrowed in confusion, Mercedes leaned closer to her sister and whispered, "Esme, what's going on? Why does Axel look like he's seen a ghost?"Esmeralda, her gaze never leaving Axel, replied in a hushed tone, "I have no idea, Mercedes. This is as surprising to me as it is to you."Mercedes frowned, her eyes narrowing as she observed the strange interaction between Axel and Esmeralda. It was as if they shared a secret, a moment of recognition that neither of them was willing to divulge.Axel finally seemed to snap out of his daze, although h
