POV: PHINA

Harrison stared at me for three long seconds, his face blank with sheer disbelief. Then, a harsh, mocking laugh burst from his chest.

"A divorce?" He shook his head, looking at me with the smug, patronizing amusement he usually reserved for unruly children. "Phina, stop this ridiculous, embarrassing display. You're throwing a temper tantrum because I brought Vera home? Grow up."

Beside him, Vera stepped forward, her eyes brimming with sudden, delicate tears. She reached out, her fingers trembling as she lightly touched Harrison's sleeve.

"Phina, please... don't do this," Vera whimpered, her voice dripping with artificial innocence. "It's all my fault. I'll just leave and find a hotel. I never meant to stand between you and Harrison. Please don't let me ruin your marriage..."

In my previous life, Vera's pathetic act would have driven me into an emotional frenzy. I would have raised my voice, tried to defend myself, and made myself look like the crazy, jealous wife while Harrison played her brave protector.

This time, I didn't even waste a breath on her. I stood entirely still, watching her theatrical routine with a cold, detached silence that immediately made Vera's fake crying falter.

Harrison’s expression hardened, annoyed that I wasn't taking the bait. He stepped closer, towering over me with threatening authority.

"Look at yourself, Phina," he sneered, pointing a finger at my chest. "You think you can just walk away from me? You own nothing! The roof over your head, the car you drive, the black card in your wallet, the social standing you enjoy, every single thing in your life is tied to the Bennet family name. Without me, you are a penniless nobody whose father lost everything. If you leave this house, you walk out into the street with zero."

He was so confident, so completely convinced that I was a helpless bird trapped in his gilded cage. He believed he held all the power because he had spent five years brainwashing me into believing I was nothing without him.

I didn't argue. I didn't yell. I didn't expose his secret affair, his offshore accounts, or the horrifying truth about Vera’s pregnancy. Revealing my cards now would only give him a chance to prepare a defense. Silence was my greatest weapon.

"My decision isn't up for debate, Harrison," I said calmly, my voice steady as steel. "Our marriage is over."

Harrison flinched slightly, a flicker of genuine unease passing through his dark eyes. The absolute lack of fear in my expression was something he had never seen before. The obedient, desperate wife who lived for his approval was gone, and the stranger standing in her place rattled him far more than any shouting match could have.

I turned my back on him, walked over to the nightstand, and picked up my silver wristlet. From inside, I pulled out the master black card linked to the Bennet account and tossed it onto the bed.

"Keep your money, Harrison," I said softly. "I won't be needing a single cent from your family ever again."

"Phina! Stop right there!" Harrison yelled, stepping forward to grab my wrist, but I pivoted smoothly out of his reach, giving him a look so frigid it froze him in his tracks.

I unlatched the heavy master suite doors and walked down the sweeping marble staircase toward the grand entrance hall. Before leaving this mansion, I was going to reclaim every part of myself Harrison had once convinced me I didn't own, my freedom, my identity, and my dignity.

As I pushed open the massive front doors, the crisp morning air rushed over my skin, washing away the suffocating scent of Harrison's fake lifestyle. I pulled my smartphone from my coat pocket and dialed a private number I hadn't called in years.

"Pendelton & Associates," a sharp, professional voice answered on the second ring.

"Arthur," I said quietly. "It's Phina."

There was a sudden, sharp intake of breath on the line. Arthur Pendleton had been my grandfather’s most trusted personal attorney, a man who had watched in silent frustration as I handed over my life to the Bennet family.

"Miss Hastings," Arthur said, his tone instantly shifting into crisp, lethal professionalism. "It has been a long time. How may I serve you?"

"I am divorcing Harrison Bennet," I stated without hesitation. "I need you to initiate the legal severance immediately, freeze all joint authorizations, and prepare a full asset audit."

Arthur went quiet for a brief moment before responding. "I am relieved to hear you say that, Phina. However, I must warn you: Harrison Bennet is a ruthless man. The moment he realizes you are truly leaving, his legal team will attempt to freeze your personal funds and claim that your holdings are marital property."

A cold, dangerous smile touched my lips as I walked down the stone driveway toward the main gates. In my previous life, I had been so naive, so foolishly trusting, that I had never bothered to look into my family's estate, blindly believing Harrison when he said my father's bankruptcy left me with nothing.

"Let him try," I replied calmly into the receiver. "I am prepared for anything he throws at me."

Arthur let out a low, satisfied chuckle over the line.

"I don't think you fully understand yet, Miss Hastings," Arthur said, his voice dropping into a solemn, heavy tone. "Your grandfather knew exactly what kind of snakes were lurking around you before he passed. Before he died, he sealed your true inheritance behind a bloodline clause. Your grandfather left you something Harrison can never touch."

  • REBORN BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE: MY EX BEGS FOR MERCY   Chapter 16: The Man At My Gate

POV: PHINAHarrison stood outside the heavy iron gate. He was staring at the thick wall of a fortress he thought I could never build.Through the clear screen in my security office, I watched him on the camera feed. The icy storm was getting worse. Freezing rain hit his face and soaked his dark hair. Behind him, his black car sat idling, breathing white smoke into the freezing air.He reached out and slammed his hand against the call button on the gate post. The intercom on my desk buzzed with a sharp noise. I pressed the answer button, keeping my posture relaxed and my voice steady."Phina!" Harrison’s voice came loudly through the speaker, mixed with the sound of the howling wind. "Open this gate right now!"I did not answer right away. I took a slow sip of my hot tea, letting him wait until I heard him growl in anger on the other side."I know you are listening to me!" he yelled, stepping closer to the camera lens. His eyes were wide and red from the biting cold. "Stop this stupid

POV: PHINAThe giant storm showing on the screen was not just bad weather. It was a ghost from my past life.I stood in the basement command center, staring at the radar map. A huge wave of freezing air was rushing down from the ocean, hitting the warm air near the coast. The computers flashed wildly as the air pressure dropped fast.I knew this storm pattern. In my past life, people called it "The First Spike." It was the first sudden wave of icy air that broke power lines, froze water pipes, and trapped thousands of people in their cars. The problem was that this storm was happening much too early. In my past life, it happened weeks later. Today was October 28, only two weeks after I woke up in the past on October 14.The timeline was changing. The disaster was moving faster, completely out of my control.Suddenly, the lights in the room flickered and went out. The loud hum of the heaters stopped. The room turned dark, except for the soft blue light of my battery-powered screens.Do

POV: PHINAThe most dangerous thing about my second chance was that the future was no longer following the script I remembered.I sat in the cold, blue light of the subterranean command center beneath Highland Crest Manor, surrounded by printouts, satellite radar feeds, and my leather-bound survival logbook. On the left screen was the precise timeline of events from my first life, the neat, predictable sequence of disasters that had led to the global freeze. On the right was the live meteorological data updating every thirty seconds. They were completely out of sync.A severe cold-air intrusion that wasn't supposed to manifest until late November was already sweeping down through the northern corridor. Oceanic surface temperatures in the Atlantic were plummeting at three times the speed I remembered, and localized power grid fluctuations were already being reported in rural counties. My presence in this timeline had altered the butterfly effect. My aggressive acquisition of heavy equi

  • REBORN BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE: MY EX BEGS FOR MERCY   Chapter 13: The House Beneath The House

POV: PHINAThe workers discovered a sealed chamber beneath Highland Crest Manor that wasn’t recorded on any modern property plan.I stood at the bottom of the basement stairs, staring into a newly excavated trench in the concrete floor. The construction crew had been drilling through the foundation of the old east wing to lay high-voltage electrical conduits for our new generator array. But instead of striking solid bedrock, their heavy drills had punched straight into a subterranean wall made of reinforced cold-rolled steel.Edwin held an industrial spotlight over the opening, illuminating a massive, rusted vault door embedded deep inside the earth. A mechanical wheel handle sat in the center, locked behind a heavy keyhole mechanism."We stopped drilling immediately, Miss Phina," the lead engineer said, wiping grease and dust from his forehead. "This isn't part of the blueprinted foundation. It sits nearly twenty feet below the manor’s original basement floor."I immediately dialed A

  • REBORN BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE: MY EX BEGS FOR MERCY   Chapter 12: Harrison’s Suspicions

POV: HARRISONI had never cared where Phina went, what she did, or who she spent her time with. For five years, she had been a shadow in my home, a quiet, predictable woman who lived entirely for my approval. She was kind of wife who would wait up late just to take my jacket, cook meals I barely touched, and swallow her own feelings whenever I prioritized Vera. I had always owned her.So when I sat at my desk inside the top-floor executive suite of Bennet Holdings, staring at an empty chair across from me, a deep, bitter rage burned in my throat. She was building a life I could not control. The woman who used to cry if I raised my voice now hung up on me without hesitation. She didn't return to the Bennet mansion. She ignored my official legal notices. She had stripped our joint accounts, hidden her money behind corporate walls, and hired a team of high-priced lawyers who treated my legal team like amateur children.A quiet knock echoed at the door, and Vera walked in. She was wearing

  • REBORN BEFORE THE APOCALYPSE: MY EX BEGS FOR MERCY   Chapter 11: Someone Is Watching Me

POV: PHINAThe stranger parked outside my secondary distribution warehouse wasn’t attempting to break in, nor was the person stealing my supplies, he or she was counting them.Standing in the darkened observation loft of the fuel depot ten miles outside the city, I stared through a pair of long-range night-vision binoculars. Down on the rain-slicked gravel shoulder, a dark grey SUV sat with its engine idling. The driver's side window was cracked open just an inch, the long telephoto lens of a high-end camera resting against the glass, quietly snapping photos of every semi-truck hauling insulated fuel bladders into our underground storage bays.Edwin stepped up beside me, his tread silent on the steel catwalk. "I ran the plates through our contact at the DMV, Miss Phina. They're cloned tags belonging to a scrapped sedan in New Jersey. Furthermore, our logistics team spotted this exact same vehicle stationed near two separate medical equipment suppliers in Connecticut yesterday, both co
