Chapter 7

Wesley's POV

I groused, feeling my stomach rumble due to how famished I was. Hopefully, this motel has good food and not what I would be expecting. I stared around the room again as I got dressed in my black pants. Frankly, the room wasn’t the way I assumed it would be, considering how shabby it looked from the outside. I could almost be persuaded it was just another building that must’ve been abandoned for ages. They could at least make some renovation and make it look customer friendly, not like some kind of horror house, well I guess it’s none of my business though. Besides, this will be the last time I will be here.

Lounging in this dirt place was the only way not to make Father discover what I’d been doing. Though it was for the benefit and security of the pack. We caught some spies lurking around the pack, likely sent to find ways to attack us, but I wiped them off.

Will I get credit for doing that? No.

Not even for protecting one of the biggest packs of the werewolf clan? Not at all.

Instead, all I ever get are just insults and vile attitudes from my father and the rest of the pack members. No worries, I’ve gotten pretty used to it already and have learned to accept my title as the useless son of the Silvercrest pack's alpha.

The knock on the door is what pulled me out of my short reverie and I walked to it, barefooted, pulling the door open to see the weird girl from yesterday standing outside with a strange vicious look on her face.

“You know, smiling makes girls prettier,” I smirked, leaning against the door. “And you’re quite the opposite.” I couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped my lips after saying those words. Her eyes darkened, and it did not get past my notice to see her fist clench tight.

“Wow, sorry. Didn’t realize you’re a tigress.” Surprisingly, my wolf has been quite restless since we stepped foot into this motel. I couldn’t figure it out well. He just seemed to be excited for no reason, which was something really strange. I mean, there was nothing to be happy about. We’ve had the worst lives ever and are supposed to be down and depressed just as Father said I should be.

“Breakfast is ready. If you’re not a fan of cold food, then better do what’s right.” She spoke with arms crossed behind her, her voice so cold than I’ve ever heard. Did she know me previously?

Silly me! I’m quite popular in the pack, not in a good way though. So she must hate me just like the rest of the members of the pack.

“Okay, let’s go.” I stepped out of the room, closing the door behind me.

“You’re not really thinking of going downstairs like this, right?” She scrunched her face in disgust as her eyes moved from my face to my chest. Then I realized I was shirtless and must have been too lost in thoughts while in the room to forget about that.

“Oooh, you like what you see?” I smirked, deliberately annoying her.

“Looking forward to seeing you, Mr.” She rolled her eyes before she turned around and walked away. I quirked my lips in amusement, watching her retreating figure but hurrying into the room to put a shirt on and head downstairs because I wasn’t really a fan of cold food though I get to eat a lot of it at the packhouse, without a choice.

It only took a few minutes to get dressed; afterward, I headed down to the dining hall where the others were seated. Surprisingly, there was a younger girl, about six years old, sitting at the table, chatting with the rest of my men. Well, I’ll rather say she was talking to herself while they just kept on watching without saying a word.

“Good morning, mister!” The little girl shrieked as soon as she noticed me, looking up at me with a wide smile. The others let out small groans and hiss in response to her loud, high-pitched voice.

“Good morning, little one,” I replied to her with a smile, sitting right beside her.

“I’m April! And that’s my sister over there!” She pointed to the corner of the room where the weird girl stood, glaring hard at me as if daring me to hurt her little sister. I have no idea who she is, but I think she needs a therapist, just like the rest of the people in this pack.

“Oh, nice meeting you April,” I replied, looking down at the plate which had just toast, egg, and bacon. I found it quite weird and a bit awkward that her little sister was sitting at the same table with us. Wasn’t that quite unprofessional? But I ignored it nonetheless, considering she was just a little girl, a bright one at that.

“So, how long would you be staying here, mister?” I looked up when April asked, dropping her spoon on her plate.

“Erm, not long. I’ll be leaving today.” I noticed the tinge of sadness flash across her face as soon as I said those words, but she shook it off immediately, replacing it with her radiant smile.

“Are you sure you wouldn’t be needing our services? You know it’s really cheap since we’re literally on the other side of the city and barely have customers.” I had no idea what to say as she blabbed out, staring at me expectantly.

“Well, I have a house, April. I don’t need a motel to sleep in...” I explained, unsure of what else to say. She pouted her lips, slumping her shoulders.

“Okay! So where do you live-”

“April!” She flinched when her sister growled warningly. It was likely a signal to tell her to stop talking to me. Her eyes glazed over and she pressed her lips tight, looking down at her food. I could tell her sister was mind-linking to her. She doesn’t talk anymore but picks up her spoon to continue eating. I shook my head, glancing at the corner where her sister stood. She had her eyes on me, a dark warning look on them.

I averted my gaze with a sigh, focusing back on my food. I couldn't help but feel that she was being excessively harsh on the little girl.

“Come on, April, you don’t want to be late for school.” She walked up to the table a few minutes later with a pink school bag and matching lunchbox in her hands.

“I’ll be done soon. Give me a few minutes,” April replied in a small voice before looking back at her food. With a heavy sigh, she glanced at April before walking away past me.

“Fuck.” I dropped the spoon on the plate sharply, when her hands slightly brushed against my arms as she walked past me, sending strange sparks around my body. I closed my eyes and moved my hands under the table to hide my claws as they kept extracting, my wolf pushing hard against the surface, almost uncontrollably.

‘Damn it! Wade, would you fucking calm down!’ He kept pushing harder as I tried not to give him control and act not normal, knowing the attention at the table was fixed on me.

“Mate! We found mate!” He kept chanting, and I froze in utter surprise. I opened my eyes slowly, turning around to stare at the weird girl who was standing behind me, probably wondering what the hell went wrong with me. How could she- oh fuck it! I looked away, ignoring the looks my men and April were giving me. Who knew it would be possible to find my mate in a motel? Yes, I have been waiting for her to at least prove to my father that I wasn’t useless and cursed by the goddess, just like he thinks, but now I feel this is all wrong. Getting fated to the one who already despised me?

I shook my head and hit my palm on the table gently before standing up. “I’m out of here.” I said and turned around, walking past my ‘mate’ and heading up to my room to have a better, well-concentrated rethink!
