The Beta’s Daughter

The room I woke up in was a large, beautifully decorated one. The bed was soft and had a feathery feel to it, I felt myself sink into it further for comfort as I hugged the pillow closer, it was only after a few seconds had gone by did I shoot up, remembering where I was and what had happened.

And as soon as I’d jumped down from the bed, aunt Aurora walked in with a small tray in hand.

She dropped the tray that contained broth in a small bowl on the stool in front of me. “It’s for the headache.” She said just as immediately, I felt a splitting headache, and I cradled my head.

“Go on,” She urged, nodding at the broth soup.

“What did you put in it? Something to make me sleep longer this time?” I asked snarkily.

She sighed. “I’m sorry about that, Eliana, but I had no choice. I couldn't let you walk away just like that. I didn't know if I was ever going to see you if you had walked out through that door.”

I said nothing and simply massaged the side of my head. It was still daylight outsi
