DAPHNE'S POV

I don’t know how long I’ve been in this cell.

The darkness is so thick it feels alive — pressing against my eyes, crawling into my lungs.

I can’t tell if it’s day or night. I can’t even tell if I’m still sane.

It was a terrible isolation made only for criminals and somehow, I had become one of them.

I held my knee close to my chest. Was Zach searching for me?

He must have found out I was gone, but it would be too hard to know where I am.

The spell in the detention blocks off scent

ZACHARY’S POVTwo days ago, I caused chaos at the student chambers after discovering they had locked Daphne in detention, but it backfired.I got dethroned and exiled from the pack, given a direct order not to return, or my head would pay the price.Well, they can’t stop me. Not now, not tomorrow, not ever. Not until I find her and make sure she’s safe.To do that, everyone who wants her gone will pay. They’ll pay in a way that ensures they cease to exist in this life.Daniel walked into my hotel room and bowed slightly. “I’ve found it, sir,” he said, handing me a parchment covered in ancient letters. It was the counter-spell. The spell that could unlock the detention barrier for five minutes. That was how they accessed it. Not with a physical key, but another one.I stared at the parchment, relief washing over me. I had found a way to get her out. But how was she holding up?It had been five days. Five days in that place would be torture for anyone.I stood abruptly and reached for m

Daphne’s POVThe cracks on the wall stretched upward, spreading to the ceiling. Within seconds, the walls began to split apart. My mouth fell open as the solid concrete crumbled like clay.Metal clanged loudly in my ears. I turned and saw the bars dividing the cells, bending out of shape, and shaking violently before snapping loose. They were falling apart too.The detention was built strong enough to withstand any disturbance. So how was it collapsing so easily?Everything was happening at once. I had no time to think about what I had done, or how I had done it, before my cell burst open.It opened.I stared at the fallen bars in horror. That was impossible. The spell used to secure this place wasn’t cast by an ordinary witch. It had been cast by the most powerful one of that era.Slowly, I looked down at my hands. Then I glanced at the cracked wall, which still reflected parts of my face.My eyes were still dark gold.I swallowed hard and stepped back quickly, just as a chunk of con

Daphne’s POV“Execution happens at dawn.”Her words echoed over and over in my head. So this had been their plan all along. They sent Edna to break me. And when she failed, she revealed the truth, that they were going to kill me.They wanted me shattered. I didn’t break when Edna tried to manipulate me, but something inside me did snap the moment she mentioned execution. What had I done to deserve this? Why was I hated so much? No. This couldn’t be the end. I couldn’t die like this. I had to do something. I had to escape. But how? I had no plan, no strength, and no help.I still wanted to uncover who was behind all of this, but now it felt like I had walked straight into their trap, and there was no way out. They couldn’t win. They couldn’t break me. I had to survive.Suddenly, my blood began to boil, and I mean literally. I could feel it surging through my veins, burning hot. Every part of me felt like it was on fire. The cell floor was freezing, the walls were cold stone, yet I was

Daphne’s POVThe words of the stranger kept ringing in my head.A catalyst? What did she mean by that? A destroyer? A trigger? I had so many thoughts swirling in my mind, but none of them felt right. Maybe she was just messing with me, but a deeper part of me believed she wasn’t lying. If she knew my name and everything that had happened to me while she had been locked up for three years, then she knew more than I did.Ever since that conversation, she had gone silent. No words, no whispers, and not even a faint sound from where she had been.I tried reaching out again, but all I got was silence. She wouldn’t respond, and the others warned me not to anger her, that it would be dangerous. Everything about this place was strange. Even the people locked up here were strange. And I was beginning to act like them.I folded my knees to my chest and wrapped my arms around them.My stomach ached terribly, as if my insides were being twisted and pulled. I didn’t know how much longer I could su

ZACHARY’S POVThey are planning to execute Daphne. They are planning to kill my mate.I should have known. I should have seen this coming from the very beginning. I never should have brought her back here. I walked her straight into the lion’s den and handed them the knife. But if I had left her behind, would she have been safe? No. She was never safe. Not anywhere.I stormed into the meeting hall. Chairs scraped against the floor as they all stood abruptly, shock written across their aging faces. They hadn’t expected me.Good.I remained by the door for a moment, letting the silence suffocate them before I walked in with slow, deliberate steps. I was calmer than I expected to be. Too calm. The kind of calm that comes before devastation.I couldn’t afford to lose control. Not at that moment. I needed to know how to reach the detention block before I killed every last one of them.I took a seat and crossed one leg over the other. “Where is Daphne?” I asked evenly. They exchanged glance

Zachary’s POVDaphne is gone.I can’t feel her, not even through the bond. I tried reaching for her presence, trying to sense where she is, but something is blocking me completely. They said she left and never returned, but that makes no sense. There’s no way she would just disappear without taking anything. Not even her phone. Her phone was found on the floor of the student quarters dorm room. It’s been with me ever since, and I have been secretly investigating what really happened. They all think I have let it go. They think I’m just angry that she left. But I know she didn’t.It’s been two days. Two long, suffocating days, and still no progress. But I won’t give up. I will find her. And if something has happened to her, everyone will pay for it.The pack, the school, the very place I have sacrificed so much to protect, I will ruin it myself if I have to. I don’t care if I’m labeled the villain Alpha.I drove out of the school grounds and pulled over in front of a café. Pushing the
