Chapter 1

Mira’s POV

The heat in the warehouse crept into my skin, causing me to sweat. My whole body was a canvas of pain. I gasped, but instead of air, a warm surge of blood forced its way out of my mouth.

“How long do we have to keep this woman alive?” A voice filled with disgust from the man who had been pounding a stick into my flesh.

I was tied to a chair with countless wounds in my body. But the woman next to me made my blood run cold. She looked like a porcelain doll, perfect and untarnished beside me.

"Please let me go," I begged the men around me.

I could smell their faint scents. They were lycans. I was in Lycan's territory, not my pack!

In Brimstone City, there were two packs. My pack, Lunar Crest and the Lycan's territory, Zenith Fangs Pack.

The lycans kidnapped me and dragged me into a dimly lit warehouse. They beat me so bad I could hardly breathe. I was almost half dead.

The woman next to me looked me in the eye when she heard my screams. Instead of surprise, she threw her head back and laughed.

I was confused. "Someone's kidnapped us, Laura!"

She stopped laughing, and pointed at the men. "Roman's enemies are everywhere. I knew this would happen one day.” Her eyes wandered to the men who glared at her. She added,

“Let's see who he saves tonight. His wife or me…”

I was in disbelief at her words.

This woman was my husband's childhood sweetheart.

I was a mare omega while she was an alpha she-wolf. She was the reason why Roman Ashford, my husband, disregarded me for three years.

Suddenly, the warehouse door swung open.

The cold air rushed inside, shivering my body, piercing my wounds like needles.

A tall and firm figure walked in. He was completely alone, unprotected, and fearless.

His slow, unhurried footsteps echoed throughout the area. His perfection combined with his dark, cruel aura revealed that he is a man who will destroy everything you care about and never feel anything. His presence alone silenced everyone.

In his hand, he was holding a bag with the money demanded by the kidnappers.

Each man swallowed, swiftly lifted his weapons, and pointed them directly at him.

“Alpha Roman!”

He walked right into the center of the room and stopped. The dim light revealed his cold, striking face.

His expression was unreadable, lacking emotion.

I screamed with hope. "Roman!"

Even in the pain, I felt relieved that he finally came to rescue me.

Instead of looking at me, his piercing gaze went straight to Laura.

Laura pretended to be unconscious as if she hadn't been talking to me a while ago.

Roman's brows furrowed when he noticed the blood in the corner of her lips. "Didn't I warn you not to touch her?" He spoke in a low tone, his voice deep and furious.

The men around me shook from the pure power in his Alpha voice. They quickly moved their guns away from him and pointed them at Laura and me.

"Give us our money." One of them said,

"You did what we said?” murmured the other, looking over his shoulder. “Or did you secretly contact the Lycan King?”

Roman turned his attention to the men's leader. "I don't care about the money. So no need to bother that old man." He tossed the bag close to him and demanded,

"Just let her go."

The man looked relaxed and was about to untie me when Roman spoke again, “Not her.”

My world shook at his words. "Roman!" I murmured with shock.

The men were equally shocked. They realized he was talking about Laura, not me.

As soon as they untied Laura, Roman began to walk toward me.

‘Did he finally realize that I also need to be rescued?’ I thought, feeling heavy.

But the next moment, he walked past me, reaching for Laura. He hugged her tightly and scooped her up into his arms like a soft feather.

My heart clenched as the pain in my body felt nothing before it.

The men frowned when Roman turned around with Laura.

"Just taking your mistress with you? What about your wife? We need more money. If you don't pay us for her, we'll kill her."

Roman didn't bother with their words; his feet kept moving away.

"We aren't letting you walk out of here with just one of them," the leader growled, cocking his gun as he moved forward to block the exit.

I stared at Roman, silently begging him with my eyes to look at me, to save me. But his eyes stayed fixed on Laura.

Roman came to a complete stop. He met the leader's eyes. As though he had seen something terrible in Roman's eye, the man took a step back.

Even the lycans were afraid of him. He had an old connection with the lycan pack.

Roman’s voice remained calm as he spoke, "Kill her? Your wish. I never wanted her as my wife anyway."

My heart shattered into a million pieces. He was abandoning me to die here.

Tears rolled down my cheeks. He never gave me a glance throughout our three years of marriage. Instead, he treated me with pure ice. He punished me for marrying him, degraded me for being an orphan, and broke my heart for loving him.

He had never touched me once in three years. For him, only Laura was his love, the woman he always wanted.

I struggled with the ropes while shaking my head. “I'm your wife, Roman! Are you leaving me like this?” I sobbed as I choked out the words.

My throat was hurting as I felt a metallic taste on my tongue. My voice came out in choking whispers. “Did you ever love me? Not even for a day?”

When Roman heard me, he turned to face me.

I saw Laura open her eyes, then close them again with a sly grin on her lips.

This time Roman’s eyes locked with mine. My heart began to race. But all I could see in his eyes was anger and hatred.

"Did you really think I came here for you?" he sneered. "If you die today, I will lose nothing. You were the one who begged to marry me. I never loved you. Not for a single day.”

I was shattered by his words. Roman turned away from me. He held Laura close and walked out of the door, abandoning me to the monsters in the warehouse.

I was all alone with the men. Fear and pain were the only things holding my breath.

Roman was my mate. But even before I learned that, I fell for him five years ago when he visited my orphanage for a charity event.

How beautiful the day was!

I was so in love with him that for years I ignored that he desired another woman.

“She is a worthless woman. Her husband refused to acknowledge her.”

“We can't believe Alpha Roman! He wants to get rid of her. That's why he left her with us.”

“He will catch us if we kill her here and leave any evidence. How about pushing her from a lake?”

Around me, voices were shuffling.

The leader was frustrated. He reached into his pocket for a lighter to light a cigarette and said, "Let me think.”

The lighter slipped from his fingers and hit the ground with a small thud.

The second the open flame brushed the ground, the entire warehouse caught fire.

"Who spilled kerosene here?!" He screamed, hurrying to the gate with his men as they tried to get away from the fire.

My eyes widened. The fire blazing was the only thing lit in my sight.

But I didn't move in the chair, nor did I try to break free.

I could see fire coming toward me like a snake moving faster to bite me.

My husband betrayed me and left me to die. To get into his heart, I tried a lot. But I was a fool who trusted him all these years.

“Mira!”

A loud scream pulled me out of my reverie. I lifted my gaze and saw a man trying to get into the warehouse, but the fire was stopping him.

He was one of my husband's rivals. He always tried to tell me Roman’s reality, but I always ignored him.

“Mira, wait! I’ll save you!” He shouted.

I attempted to stand up, struggling against the ropes again. But the chair cracked due to the flame, causing me to fall to the ground.

The intense heat immediately enveloped my body. I could feel my skin and my hair begin to burn.

I laughed in immense pain.

"If the Moon Goddess gives me a second chance, I’ll reject him without a second thought. I’ll never love that beast again.”

I could hear the man outside yelling my name.

The crucial pain in my body and heart was undescribable. I could feel that I was dying; my soul was leaving my body.

I closed my eyes to embrace the forever darkness to get away from this irresistible pain.

And then…

“Mira?”

Someone was shaking me.

The male screaming voice was gone, replaced by a very familiar female voice.

"Are you alright, Mira?"

My eyelids snapped awake at the sound of the shout.

I gasped for air, my palm pressing against my chest as if I could still feel the scorching heat of the fire. My heart pounded wildly against my ribs.

I froze the moment I saw who was staring at me.

It was Yira—my best friend from the orphanage, whom I hadn't seen in years.

I looked down at myself and gasped.

I was lying in bed, wearing a white bridal gown. My hands were no longer burned, there were no wounds in my body, and the ropes were gone.

I jumped up, panic overtaking me.

“W-Where am I?”

Yira looked at me bewildered. "Mira, what happened to you? Why did you pass out in the hall? Get up! It's your wedding day with Alpha Roman.”

My head started spinning. My whole body turned rigid. I was too shocked to react.

“W-Wedding?”

Wasn't I dying in the warehouse fire? How did I get back to my wedding three years ago?

I slowly turned my head to the window and saw the moon was shining bright orange.

It was a full moon!

My heart almost stopped. ‘The Moon Goddess actually did it! I’ve returned to the day all the misery in my life began!’

I squeezed my fists, the pain of the previous life still burning in my chest. My jaw tightened as the memory of everything I had gone through choked me.

I vowed to myself,

‘Fate gave me a second chance. This time, I’m not making the same mistakes. Everyone who hurt me will face retribution.’
