RAYA

In the dim booth of The Blackout, I took the heavy black pen from Xavier’s hand. My fingers trembled slightly, but my signature on the crisp white paper was bold and permanent.

There was no turning back.

Xavier took the contract back, his dark eyes lingering on my name next to his. He didn't offer a gentle smile or a soft word, but the intense, possessive gaze he leveled at me felt heavier than any vow.

"My driver and my security detail are waiting at the back entrance," Xavier said, his rough baritone cutting through the low hum of the club. He folded the document and slid it into his breast pocket. "They will take you to the Sinclair estate to pack your things. You are moving into my penthouse tonight."

I swallowed hard, looking at him. "Tonight? But—"

"I don't leave what belongs to me under a roof full of parasites," he interrupted flatly. He stood up, his massive frame casting a long shadow over the table. "I have to finish my meeting here. Go. My men will ensure nobody stands in your way."

The walk to his luxury SUV felt different from before. Flanked by two massive, stone-faced security guards in black suits, I felt a cold, quiet wave of confidence washing over me. In my first life, I had walked into the Sinclair mansion like a stray dog begging for scraps. Tonight, Xavier’s contract gave me an invisible shield. For the first time since my rebirth, I felt powerful.

The heavy front doors of the Sinclair mansion clicked shut behind me, the sound echoing loudly in the grand marble foyer. Xavier’s two bodyguards stepped in right behind me, their heavy, synchronized footsteps shattering the quiet of the house.

"Where the hell have you been, Raya?"

Dylan’s furious voice cut through the air before I could even take off my coat. He was pacing the living room floor, his expensive designer tie loosened, his hair slightly disheveled. He looked irritated and deeply inconvenienced.

Margaret and Keila were sitting on the plush velvet sofa, their expressions tightly wound.

Dylan stormed out of the living room and into the foyer, invading my personal space. He didn't look broke—he looked like an arrogant old-money heir who was used to his future wife catering to his every whim.

"Your mother has been complaining to me all afternoon," Dylan snapped, gesturing sharply toward Margaret. "Your phone went straight to voicemail, and I sat at your boutique for two hours waiting for you to sign the financial releases. We missed the bank's processing deadline because of you! And who the hell are these men?"

I didn't answer him. I didn't even look at him. I calmly unbuttoned my coat, handed it to a waiting maid, and walked straight past him toward the grand staircase.

Infuriated by my silence, Dylan lunged forward. "Raya! I am talking to you—"

He reached out, his fingers clawing through the air to grab my arm and spin me around.

Before his hand could even touch my skin, the larger of Xavier's bodyguards stepped into his path like a solid brick wall. The guard intercepted Dylan’s arm, wrapping a massive hand around his wrist in a crushing, unyielding grip.

"Get your hands off Mrs. Locke," the guard said, his voice flat, lethal, and entirely devoid of emotion.

The foyer went completely dead silent.

Dylan stumbled back a step as the guard released him, clutching his throbbing wrist. His face drained of color, a mix of pure rage and utter confusion twisting his handsome features. "Mrs. Locke? What the hell are they talking about, Raya? What is this joke?"

I stopped on the third step of the staircase and turned around slowly. The timid, people-pleasing smile I had forced onto my face at breakfast was completely dead.

Keila stood up from the couch, her perfect, white-lotus facade cracking in real-time. Her face twisted with a sudden, ugly surge of jealousy. "Locke? You can’t possibly mean Xavier Locke. He wouldn't even look at a girl like you!"

I looked down at her from the stairs, a cold, victorious smile touching my lips. It was time to expose the green tea bitch for exactly what she was.

"Exactly that Locke, Keila," I said, my voice smooth and chillingly calm. "I know you've been trying so hard to get into his bed, but you had to settle for my leftovers instead. Don't worry, sister. I've officially dropped my trash for you. You can have Dylan. You two already look so pathetic messing around behind my back anyway."

Keila’s eyes widened in pure horror. She went entirely pale, stepping back and stammering as she looked at Dylan. "What? Sister, you're crazy! What are you even saying? Dylan, tell her she’s insane!"

Dylan opened his mouth, but no sound came out. He was completely frozen, trapped between the shock of my accusation and the sudden realization that his secret was out.

"Raya! Stop this unhinged behavior right now!" Margaret marched out of the living room, her posture rigid with maternal rage. She stopped at the base of the stairs, tightly clutching the thick leather folder from breakfast. "You are not leaving this house, and you are definitely not ruining your engagement over a ridiculous temper tantrum. Sign these financial release papers for Sinclair Gems right now so we can fix the mess you made today!"

I walked down two steps, bringing myself eye-to-eye with the woman I had called my mother for years. For a fraction of a second, a flash of raw, genuine pain hit my chest. The memory of how much I had craved her love in my past life burned.

"You know, Mother..." I whispered, my voice thick with emotion, but completely steady. I let her see the raw betrayal in my eyes. "I actually loved you. I wanted to give this family everything I had because I thought you genuinely wanted me. I believed you when you said you tracked me down because we were distant family. But you didn't want a daughter, Margaret. You just wanted an orphan with no background to sign your fraudulent papers."

Margaret stiffened, her jaw clenching.

"You put these papers in my face this morning with a fake smile, wanting me to sign them blindly," I continued, my voice growing colder, dropping to a dangerous murmur that sent a shiver through the room. "You want to use my boutique to cover up your shady schemes. You want me to sign a document that will end up sending me to jail while you and father walk away clean. Isn't that right, mother?"

Margaret completely froze. The leather folder trembled violently in her hand. Her face drained of all color, her lips parting in sheer terror because I had just spoken the exact, hidden truth she thought was buried deep in the dark.

Dylan tried to step forward again, his voice shaking with a desperate, pathetic attempt to regain control of a board that had been completely flipped. "Raya, listen to me! We are supposed to get engaged next week! You can't just walk away! Who do you think you are?"

I turned my back on them, walking up the remaining stairs to pack my things while Xavier’s bodyguards blocked the entryway completely, their broad shoulders cutting off any hope of them following me.

I paused at the top landing, looking over my shoulder one last time.

"I'm not getting engaged to you, Dylan, because I am already a married woman," I said, my voice echoing through the grand foyer with absolute finality. "I signed the contract tonight. From now on, Xavier Locke's legal team handles my business. Try to stop me, and he will bury you."

RAYAI woke up on the study sofa a little after nine, a blanket over me that I didn't remember pulling up myself, and the smell of coffee somewhere close.Xavier was at the desk, already showered, already dressed, scrolling through something on his laptop with the particular stillness he got when he was reading news coverage instead of a spreadsheet."Morning," I said, my voice rough with sleep. He glanced up. "There's coffee. You'll want to see this before you drink it."He turned the laptop around. The headline took up half the screen. SINCLAIR EMPIRE IN RUINS: THREE PROPERTIES DESTROYED IN OVERNIGHT BLAZE. Underneath it, aerial photos of the warehouse, smoke still curling off the wreckage in the gray morning light, and a smaller photo beside it of Victor, caught by some photographer at dawn, standing in front of the vault with his tie loosened and his face doing something I'd genuinely never seen it do before. He looked old. He looked like a man who understood, for the first time,

RAYAThe SUV didn't slow down turning onto the driveway. Rain hit the windows hard, tires spraying gravel as we came through the gates. Two security cars were already parked across the courtyard, lights flashing red and blue against the stone. My heart was pounding. "Xavier—""Stay in the car.""Like hell I am," I said, grabbing his arm.He looked back at me, and whatever he saw on my face made him stop arguing. He took my hand instead and pulled me out into the rain with him.Vance met us halfway to the door, soaked through."Someone got onto the grounds," he said. "We caught it on camera, chased them off before they reached the house. But they left something on the porch."A single sheet of paper sat weighted down by a stone. No box, no theater. Xavier picked it up, read it, and handed it to me without a word. You took everything today. Enjoy it while it lasts. No signature. It didn't need one."Victor," I said."He's got nothing left to protect," Xavier said. "That's when men like

RAYAThe black SUV didn't pull up to an office. It pulled up to the front steps of the Verimont Grand Hotel.I looked out the rain-slicked window at the flashing lights and the crowd of photographers gathered outside the glass doors."What are we doing here?" I asked, turning to Xavier. "The warehouse—""The warehouse is a pile of ashes," Xavier said calmly, not even glancing at the crowd outside. "Your family wants everyone to think I'm hiding in a boardroom panicking over a fire. So we're going to lunch."I stared at him. "Lunch?""Victor's inside," Nadia said from the front seat, turning around with a sharp, subtle smile. "He hosted a press luncheon with three major Sinclair Gems investors to announce he's taking full control of the family estate."Xavier didn't wait. He slid across the leather seat, stepping out into the light rain. Before the hotel staff could even run over with an umbrella, he turned and extended a hand to me.His grip was heavy, warm, and steady. When my heels

RAYAThe cabin of the jet was quiet, save for the steady, low hum of the engines as we crossed back into local airspace.Sixteen hours ago, I was walking along a warm beach in Singapore with wet hair, watching the city lights flicker across the water. Now, the tropical warmth felt like a distant dream, replaced by the cool, artificial air of the private cabin and the heavy reality waiting for us back home.Across the leather aisle, Xavier was back in his dark suit. His jacket was unbuttoned, his tie pulled straight, his face set in that familiar, unreadable stone as he reviewed files on a tablet. He hadn't raised his voice once since Nadia's call. He hadn't paced. When things went wrong, Xavier didn't explode. He went quieter instead, colder, harder to read.I stood up, stepping across the aisle, and set a fresh glass of water on his table. "You've been reading the same page for twenty minutes."Xavier didn't jump. His eyes rose slowly from the screen to meet mine. The harshness in hi

RAYAI didn't wait for second four.I turned and sprinted down the damp sand, the cool ocean water splashing around my ankles, my loud laughter echoing across the empty cove. Behind me, I heard the sudden, heavy thud of his footsteps cut through the surf as he gave chase. He caught me in three strides.Strong, warm arms wrapped around my waist from behind, lifting me two inches off the ground before I could pull away. I gasped, spinning in his grip as he set me down, my hands instinctively landing flat against his chest to steady myself."Got you," he murmured. He was looking down at me, his dark hair messy from the sea breeze, his chest rising and falling against my palms. For a second, neither of us moved. The stoic, unreadable wall he kept up in front of the world had completely melted into something relaxed, grounded, and dangerously real.A sudden, strong gust of ocean wind whipped across the shore, carrying a heavy chill. My linen dress was already damp from the splash, and a vi

RAYAI left the Galleria two hours later, the backseat of Xavier's private Maybach filled to the brim with glossy, high-end shopping bags. For the first time in my life, I hadn't looked at a single price tag or felt the cold weight of guilt settling into my chest. When Ken carried the haul up to the suite, setting the boxes along the entryway wall, I kicked off my shoes and sank into the plush living room sofa. My feet were aching, my hair was a wild, windblown mess from the rides at Sentosa, and I couldn't stop the small, ridiculous smile pulling at my lips.I had actually had fun. Real, unscripted fun.The suite door chimed, and Xavier walked in.He was unbuttoning his suit jacket, tossing it over the back of an armchair before his eyes swept across the room, taking in the mountain of shopping bags before landing on me."Looks like you took my text literally," he said, his voice low and dry as he unknotted his dark tie."I did," I admitted, leaning my head back against the cushions
