Chapter 5: Clearing the misunderstandings

Adrian had said so when she was in her mid 20s. Now, she is 22.

So 'nobody would stop her' was only applicable after a few years and now, she would be stopped?

She could only blame herself for missing this detail.

Back then, she had not cared much.

To hell with your company and to hell with your mansion and you. She had thought.

Who knew that barely one life later, she would come running here, eating her own words?

The receptionist's face had altered colours by now, ''Yes, you need an appointment to see the President. Now, if you don't have it, please...'' she pointed towards the exit.

''I know him,'' Ella inhaled a deep breath, ''Just give him a call, tell him my name and he will know.''

The receptionist's polite mask finally showed huge cracks, ''Miss, please show yourself out or I will have to call the security to drag you outside.''

Ella pinched the spot between her brows, ''Miss, I understand that you are doing your job but shouldn't you consider giving me the benefit of doubt and calling him to check? Or you can call his secretary to confirm...''

''There is no need. I do not need to look into it to confirm that the President would not interact with the likes of you... Security!"

As the security walked towards her, someone else was faster.

''Miss Yu?"

Ella turned towards the man who seemed to be in his mid 30s.

Ji Yan shot the security a piercing stare before he came to stand in front of her.

The man was born and brought up in Vermilion City and from what Ella knew, he had remained with Adrian for a major part of his life and now, he was the man's secretary.

Seeing him, Ella touched the back of her head, ''Well, I didn't cause much trouble, did I?"

''Not at all! Please, this way!" Ji Yan led the way towards the VIP elevator under everyone's shocking stares.

The elevator moved to one of the topmost floor and once they got out, Ji Yan spoke again, ''The head servant informed me about your arrival but I was stuck with some work so it delayed me a little...''

Ella waved her hand, ''Don't worry, I won't complain at all.''

Ji Yan: "_"

He was sincerely apologizing. But it only now crossed his mind that she was planning to complain if he did not apologize in time.

He sweated a little.

Seeing him like that, Ella sighed.

Being the subordinate of a man who was obsessed with a woman was a tough job.

You don't just have to please the man but his woman also, knowing that at any given point, she might just pillow talk her way into getting you fired.

Tsk tsk.

When Ella entered the office, she was instantly struck with the huge place. It was even bigger than her room in the mansion which was already larger than a normal master bedroom.

After a moment, she recovered her senses and turned to look at the man who was standing near the window.

His back was facing towards her.

''Second Master, Miss Yu is here,'' Ji Yan declared before he bowed and left.

Adrian did not turn around even after her presence was declared.

Ella inhaled a deep breath.

The fingers that held the bag started shaking. She immediately pressed her other palm over it, to calm herself down.

In front of others, she was as nonchalant as it got.

But towards this man, she had mixed feelings. And the one that dominated over the others was fear.

She feared Adrian King.

In her previous life, she did. And it was one of the reasons she tried to run away from him again and again.

It was only during the time of her death did she realize that the only person who had never betrayed her was this man.

So, in this life, she no longer wanted the fear to overpower her again.

He was a man, not the devil....

The man turned around and his handsome face came into view. But that stunning face seemed to have been carved of ice.

His frosty expressions, his brown eyes that seemed to glow red when sun rays hit them and his dark hair that fell loose on his forehead made her weak in her knees, both in good and bad ways.

He was as beautiful as the devil.

He did not say a word as he looked at her.

In the end, Ella forced a huge smile on her face, ''I did not see you in the mansion for the past few days...''

As she spoke, she walked towards his desk and placed the bag on a free area, ''So, I decided to bring you lunch today.''

Adrian looked at her icily.

Ella gulped.

And she felt like it was still not too late to run away.

But she knew she could not do that. Adrian had all the power in the world to drag her back here if he wanted to.

Face it and make it useful.

''For the things before...''

His face turned frosty even before she could finish her sentence and Ella's heart doubled over.

''I wanted to apologize to you,'' she continued, the smile still strong even though her insides had dried up by this point.

''Apologize?" The man took a seat on his chair as he looked at her.

Ella nodded like a chicken, ''We have a lot of misunderstandings between us?"

''Misunderstandings?"

"_" Can you stop repeating the highlighted word like that? It's stressing me out.

But she understood his implication rather well.

There were no misunderstandings between them at all. He understood all that she did. Cuckolding him, plotting against him, causing troubles and whatnot.

''In the past, I haven't really behaved well and caused you some... a lot of troubles but now I want to change my ways!" Ella raised three fingers to her head.

The man did not say anything but rather, he looked at her in silence.

Ella understood what it meant.
