It's time for some cherry popping

Agatha threw her eyes open and with a jolt woke up only to find out that she was in her room. She fell asleep not long after the hoodlums left. She was unsure how long she had been unconscious and there was no way for her to tell the time either.

Recalling what happened, she still found it difficult to believe that something like this could be possible even when experiencing it herself. Likewise, the vibration she could feel coming from her pocket was also unyielding so she finally decided to check it.

"How did I end up with a phone?"

She wondered since provided the events that took place in her life recently, there was no way she could have been carrying something like that at the moment; not to mention a working one

But then again, provided the series of unimaginable things that kept on happening to her, things that she could only read in fantasy novels before, Agatha just accepted it as a fact.

After all, it was no secret to Agatha that she had somewhat become what seemed to her as the main character of a science fiction book. So trying her best to be as open-minded as possible, Agatha checked the mysterious phone that had awoken her from her deep sleep.

 With her eyes half-closed, she bravely fished out the said phone to check, once and for all, what it was that was adamant not to give her a rest.

<System: Beeep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!>

This seemingly senseless word greeted her eyes the moment her phone came alive. The text displayed was rather plain. In fact, there was nothing even worth taking note of in terms of its overall appearance. Be the text displayed or the phone itself. There was nothing special about it at all. With the phone's background turning pitch black, the font contrasted it with white color. That was all about it.

Yet, Agatha was not sure how it managed to affect her emotionally. For some unknown reason, it could invoke a reaction from her. She could feel the frustration behind the word as though it was coming from inside her!

The girl's shaking hands became much more unsteady when sudden realization dawned on her.

‘Could it be that I unknowingly signed a contract to a devil upon my death? Did I subject myself to eternal damnation?’

Agatha tried to make sense of the abnormality she was experiencing. However, the phone did not give her enough time to think as it rang once again.

It read to her as more irritated this time, as well.

<System: Beep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!>

<System: Locked onto a useless target. Connection stabilized.>

<System: Beep! Beep! Beep! Here's to the idiotic girl killing her own person over some human trash>

<System: Yes, you! Stop looking around! Read me, stupid!>

<System: SO! Your husband has been cheating on you with your best friend? Feel like your life is now hopelessly hopeless? No mother or relatives to rely on? Well, your life is hopeless, it is! Who asks you to be as useless as you are now that you can't even think of any solution to save yourself from your predicament? Just commit suicide already. Suicide. You damn waste of precious space!>

Agatha felt like she could not breathe when she read the last part. She bit her lips in an attempt to hold back the tears that were threatening to fall. However, the harder she tried, the faster they came running down her cheek. She felt extremely wronged because not only was she reminded of how people around her betrayed her trust, but more so it almost sounded like this was all her fault. For her, the words were very hurtful and mean, but she could only remain quiet because everything written in the message was also not a lie.

<System: Tch. Yeah. Cry. Weakling! You are really so hopeless. But it's your luck that this mighty being took notice of you. Be grateful. I can grant you hope.... light up your path. Yeah. I will be your guide. I can show you the real apex of this world!>

<System: The question is, will you grab this precious and rare chance?>

This time, Agatha wiped her tears away and carefully read what was currently displayed on her phone; rereading the questions over and over again. She also did her best to think of her situation and tried to get a hold of what was happening. For the first time, hope blossomed from her heart.

In her own take on the situation, with this opportunity that was being presented to her, she has now had the chance to either exact vengeance or start over again. The choice was hers to make.

Well, Agatha might not be the smartest of people, but still, she was keen enough to understand that the moment she accepted help from that unknown entity back when she was being nearly beaten to death, she had made herself bound to it for good.

'It was no different from signing a contract with a devil'

She could guess as much as that.

The Agatha Moore that she used to be was as good as dead. Both Jerome and Stacey were nothing but a thing of her past. Their betrayal should also mean nothing to her now considering that she had to take a different identity starting today. Albeit she'll be using the same name; still this was no longer the same as her.

After this realization, she arrived at an understanding that she had no one now. Well, perhaps aside from a few good friends that the late Agatha managed to acquire, if that would count as one, in the first place.

'If only I was not hopelessly romantic as to believe that life is all but rainbows and sunshine, I probably would have lived longer. Perhaps, if I had taken the same path as this Agatha Moore, a typical high schooler and did not pursue love at an early age, I would not end up trying to kill myself out of self-pity.'

After allowing herself a short self lamentation, Agatha let out a deep breath and asked.

"Who are you? And why are you pestering me?"

Meanwhile, the phone vibrated again and its screen shows a reply to her previous question.

<System: A mysterious AI of a mysterious but very useful system.>

The answer thoroughly bewildered the girl. She found it a relief that it was not what she dreaded; at least it did not introduce itself as the devil.

Nonetheless, the reply she got was still really unexpected. Sure, the name of the other party was the word system itself - but she thought it was an alias for this certain somebody who she couldn't guess if a blackmailer or a prankster.

<System: I don't care if you don't believe me. Just answer my question. It's just a yes, or, no.>

Her hand never stopped shaking. It's only at this moment that it hits her how the other party seemed to understand her question before... it even answered her when she had yet to type it as a reply.

'I-I verbally said my question but in a second an answer came? A-and there's nobody around?!'

The realization terrified her.

<System: Once again, yes, or no?>

The question that flashed in her phone summoned her spooked soul back to her body. In a fit of fright, she answered in a nervous and stuttering voice,

"Y-yes!"

<System: Damn, it took you so long to answer. But very good! You made the greatest decision of your life. However, are you really qualified to receive my help? Not sure, that's for sure. Haha.>

<System: So let's have a qualifying mission!>
