JOHN

I tried to steady my breathing, but my thoughts were racing like a storm. Elvis had been shot with an arrow, and deep down, I knew Giovanni was responsible. The thought made my chest tighten. Once this ritual was over, I would find him no matter what.

“Sacred smoke, cleanse my spirit. As you rise, take away the darkness around me. Fill me with your light and pure presence,” the Pack Witch said in an old voice with her eyes closed and her hands spread apart as the fragrant smoke curled into the air. This cleansing prayer was the first step of the ritual, an important part before any magic could begin.

“Where is she?” she asked sharply, her eyes scanning the cold, shadowy clearing as the trees rustled in the wind.

I sighed.

"Continue the ritual without her. She might not come at all… or she’ll be late," I said quietly, folding my hands in front of me. My head was bowed, my voice was shaking and my heart as I stood near Harry.

He lay motionless on the wooden structure designed to l

EVELYNI ran as fast as I could, my legs burning with every step. Sand flew up behind me, kicked by my frantic pace. There was no time to stop, no time to think. The Pack didn’t have taxis to make this easier so I had to rely on my own speed. I had to reach the Pack witch’s house before it was too late.Diane’s words echoed in my mind. From her tone, it was clear she already knew why I was coming. I couldn’t afford to underestimate her not when my son’s life was at stake."Fuck," I gasped, stumbling to a stop. I leaned against the wall, one hand bracing myself on the wall while the other clutched my chest. My breath came in ragged gulps, sweat dripping down my face like a summer storm.Scent filled the air like cedar, but stronger. It wrapped around me with an unsettling warmth, making my skin prickle. A shiver ran down my spine. Something unnatural was happening, I could feel it.In front of me, my son sat on rough wooden logs, his small hands clasped together as he trembled. He was

EVEYLN."What were you planning? Were you trying to hide it from me?" I asked, as I demanded answers.I dipped the cotton ball into the iodine, the strong smell stinging my nose, and gently dabbed it on his wound. He flinched, sucking in a breath through clenched teeth as the pain hit him like a blade. The small, circular wounds on his stomach were deep, too deep. Were his claws really that sharp? That long?"And you can't make it heal?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "Sure, a deep cut like this takes time, but don’t worry your healing powers will speed it up."The memory strike me like a shock. I had heard that sharp sound just before everything went dark. Now, as I cleaned the wounds, more blood oozed out. This was my fault. He was hurt because of me, because he tried to save me when I foolishly broke the ritual’s rules."Ouch," he muttered, wincing in pain. I sighed softly, my heart sinking as I reached for a plaster from the first aid box. Carefully, I pressed it over the wound, hop

Gosh, am I going to keep fucking you just to get something in return?" My voice was harsh, but his silence only made me more annoyed. Typical Andrew, always brooding when things didn’t go his way.I scoffed, shaking my head. "You're such a headache," I muttered. A dark thought crept in, maybe I should get rid of him before he ruins everything. Before he exposes my plans.Without waiting for a reply, I hung up and tossed the phone onto the counter. The smell of sizzling onions filled the space, grounding me. I forced a smile and stepped into the kitchen, hiding the storm inside me.Vera turned from the stove, spatula in hand, her face brightening when she saw me. It looked just like an ordinary lipstick no one would ever guess its real purpose."Today’s the day," I whispered, turning the small tube in my fingers. Their meeting was happening. The perfect opportunity. I hadn’t attended one in ages, but this time would be different.Standing outside the building, my heart drummed softly in my chest. The room was part of the palace’s outer wing. In the crowd, a woman held up a rough sign. It showed a poorly drawn figure labeled "Evelyn," with a thick red 'X' slashed across it. The paint was smeared and angry, just like the people holding it.Eggs smashed against our iron gate, their yolks dripping down in streaks of yellow and white. I stood frozen, watching the mess spread as the metallic clang of each hit mixed with the furious chants. At least thirty women filled the street, their voices merging into a harsh rhythm. "Evelyn, leave! Evelyn, leave!"Their anger was deafening, but I refused to cover my ears. I fought the urge to flinch or look away. That would feel like I'm being disrespectful to them."Enough... stop.""Move back!"The bodyguards spread their arms wide. They stood fir

JOHNI burst into the mansion, my footsteps echoing through the hall. My chest rose and fell as I fought to control the anger threatening to take over. Just as I was about to head straight to Diane’s room, the smell of roasted chicken and herbs drifted from the dining room, catching my attention.Inside, Charles and Vera sat at the table, calmly eating, the quiet clink of their forks against their plates filling the space.I clenched my fists at my sides, forcing myself to stay calm. The anger burned inside me, but I couldn’t let it show. Not yet.“Hey, son, is everything okay?” Vera asked. She turned in her chair, looking at me with concern. My sudden entrance had clearly disrupted their peaceful dinner.“No, Mum,” I bellowed. I stepped closer, scanning the room. “Where’s Diane?”Vera frowned slightly and set down her fork. “She just left,” she said gently. “She said she’d be back this evening. Why do you ask, son? JOHN"Yes, boss," Andrew muttered. "He was found dead this morning. Luckily, not everyone in the pack saw it."I stared at Chino's lifeless body on the forest floor. Blood trickled from the side of his head, forming a dark pool below him. The wound was obvious, a bullet had gone straight through his skull. Had it been he never escaped he wouldn't have been dead, now look and I have to question him."Any idea who did this?" I asked, my voice tight with anger.Andrew shook his head, his face serious. "My guess? Probably animal hunters.""No," I growled. "Remember I banned all pack members from hunting after that werewolf was killed by mistake. They wouldn’t dare break my rules." "Get the car ready," I said firmly. "We’re going to see someone."Andrew hesitated before speaking. "If you're thinking about meeting Giovanni, he’s not in town right now," he said cautiously."Where did he go?" I asked, narrowing my eyes."I'm not sure," Andrew admitted with a slight shrug. I asked, the smirk on my face growing."Exactly," Elena added, mocking him. She tilted her head, her smirk matching mine. "Did they get anything from you?". She’s definitely enjoying this more than I am.If only John had taught his workers some manners instead of coddling them. Now at the idiot ordering me to do something for him."No, he didn’t. You think I’d just let you walk away from this place?”I gave him a faint smile. “As long as it’s for your kids and Giovanni doesn’t see a problem with it, then I’ll approve,” he added.I let out a quiet sigh. “I’ve noticed something, Simone.”He glanced over, curious. “What?”“Why don’t you come visit me at Silvermoon Pack?”He lifted his coffee cup, eyes avoiding mine. “Personal reasons,” he muttered before taking a sip.“I knew it,” I said, crossing my arms. “There’s no way you’d stay away this long unless something was wrong. EVEYLNI was in the kitchen, making sandwiches, just enough for John, Vera, and me. Once I finished, I set them out on the table and took a seat with mine.Halfway through my sandwich, John walked in and sat across from me. I put my spoon down and looked at him.“Hey,” I said, nodding toward the phone on the counter. “Call Bea and tell Harry you’re busy.”John frowned and shook his head. “I don’t lie like you do,” he said flatly.I sneered but didn’t bother replying. He picked up his sandwich and took a bite, keeping his eyes on me.“You made these, didn’t you?” he asked, chewing.I rolled my eyes. “Whatever.”I was nearly done with mine, so I grabbed a glass of warm milk and drank it in one go. The glass hit the table with a loud thud. "“I didn’t eat last night because of you,” I said, crossing my arms.“And that’s my fault?” John pointed at himself, eyes wide.I nodded. “I was expecting you to bring the food to my room. What? EVELYN What kind of meeting had that been? And why was everyone so fixated on John?I was just about to slide into the back seat when Solomon opened the door for me. Before I could get in, Darwin stepped forward, his hand catching the edge of the door.Solomon tensed, ready to shove him back, but I gave a quick shake of my head to stop him.Darwin flashed a smug grin.“What do you want?” I asked, crossing my arms and staring him down.He clutched his chest dramatically, like he was in pain. “That girl, ma’am. You’ve no idea how much it hurts not seeing her for nearly five days now.”My fingers twitched with the urge to slap him, but I settled for pressing a finger against his chest hard like that would change anything not knowing it would make him even more creepy.“It’s her life,” I said coldly. “And this is where you back off.”His smirk didn’t fade. “Or what?”I let out a sharp scoff. “She’s a child, Darwin. Giovanni’s voice rang out as he stood. Romain slowly turned his head toward him, confusion spread across his face.He stared at Giovanni like he couldn’t believe what he was hearing because why would Giovanni, of all people, be siding with John? After all, he had been the one to approach Romain with the very idea.Giovanni simply offered him a small smile.“Do you have a reason for your objection?” Romain asked, voice laced with suspicion.Giovanni nodded once, composed.John stared at him from across the room, brow furrowed. There was no trust in his expression, only confusion. The two of them were enemies. Why defend him now?“I understand the concern,” Giovanni began smoothly, addressing the council. “No one here wants to see the name of the New York City Council dragged through the mud. But removing an Alpha and stripping him of his voice and position, based on nothing but rumors? That’s not justice. That’s recklessness.”He let the words settle before continuing.“If we accuse hi

Gasps and murmurs rippled through the room at Alpha Romain’s announcement. No one had expected such a thing would be the first that he would say.Evelyn turned to John, eyes wide. He met her gaze.Of course, the first name that came to his mind was Giovanni.John had recently learned they’d been spending time together, Giovanni and Romain. It didn’t take much to guess what might have happened behind closed doors. Giovanni had influence, and Romain? Romain had a reputation for corruption. Bribe him, flatter him, and the man would hand over the moon if asked.“John…” Evelyn said softly, as her voice laced with concern. He sighed, and smiled at her like he was okay with it.“Not only because of the madness he just displayed tonight,” Alpha Romain continued, his tone dripping with disdain, “but there are rumors circulating which claim that he’s corrupt. That his Pack has grown weak.”A quiet stir passed through the hall, Evelyn scoffed under her breath, unable to hold it back.Coming fro

Evelyn took a deep breath and sank into the seat reserved for both her and John, right at the front, in the curved center of the U-shaped arrangement. It was a place meant for attention, and she felt every pair of eyes burning into her skin.“Wow, some couples can really be rude,” Darwin’s voice rang out again. “I was just greeting you both. What’s my offense now?”Neither John nor Evelyn gave him the satisfaction of a reply. She kept her gaze straight ahead, her jaw was clenched trying to ignore the weight of the stares she felt pressing on her from all directions. What she didn’t know was just how many of them, mostly men, were looking at her, whispering behind cupped hands and cocky grins.Until one voice cut through, loud and clear.“Is this the bitch from the nightclub?”“She’s the one? Damn... she’s gorgeous.”“She’s still a bitch,” another voice sneered. “If John hadn’t stepped in, we could’ve shared her that night.”Evelyn’s fists clenched at her sides. Her face turned toward

ANNUAL COUNCIL MEETING DAY"Are you okay? Diane is supposed to go, not me," Evelyn said as she stepped into her room, blocking the doorway just as John was about to follow. She shut the door behind her, leaving him outside. The meeting was only a few hours away, and she still couldn’t believe he’d asked her to come instead of Diane."I can't take her," John said from the hallway, his voice firm. "It’s you I want there."Evelyn hesitated, her hand lingering on the doorknob. "Are you sure your mum will be okay with that?" she asked. He gave a dry scoff in reply. She turned toward the wardrobe and pulled it open. A black gown with silver stones swayed gently on its hanger, catching the light. She stared at it, frozen for a moment. When she turned around, John was smiling through the narrow gap in the doorway.“Enough playing hard to get,” he said with a grin. “Come with me.”"John..." she started, her voice barely above a whisper. But he didn’t let her finish. “I’ll be back in an hour.”

EVEYLNHonestly, I didn’t expect Renai to say that. A few people in the crowd nodded slowly, their eyes narrowing with thought, while others glanced around, unsure which side to take.John wasn’t here, probably busy getting ready for the Annual Meeting.“Don’t worry,” Renai said, tapping my shoulder gently. “Everything’s under control. I’ll hand over the flash drive to the elders so they can make the final call.”A few hours later, I stood in the mansion’s hallway, the silence pressing in like a weight. I wiped at my cheeks, trying to calm my breath as I took a deep breathe. The sting in my chest wasn’t from the tears, it was from the truth. I couldn't believe that I'm leaving with the lady who almost killed my daughter, it just broke me thinking about it.“Evelyn…”Andrew’s voice pulled me out of my thoughts as he appeared at the end of the hallway. I quickly wiped my face and forced a smile.“It’s okay to cry,” he said, walking toward me. His voice was gentle. “Don’t hold it in. Wh

DIANEI sped into the pack, tires screeching as the palace came into view. A crowd had formed near the side wing, Renai's side. Something was wrong. Slamming the car door behind me, I stepped out. All eyes turned in my direction. I didn't know who had made the call, but the tension here told me everything I needed to know, this was serious. "What’s going on here?" I demanded. Clusters of women stood together, murmuring. A few turned to glance at me; others simply rolled their eyes and looked away.Fuck! That reaction could only mean one thing, bad news.“I have proof they’re the Alpha’s children,” I recognized that voice pretty well it was Evelyn as she stood in front of the crowd. Her voice began trembling. “The Moon Goddess gave me twins,a boy and a girl. He’s at school right now, and my daughter…” Her voice broke. She wiped at her tears, head bowed. “She’s mute now.”“Was she born that way?” a woman asked. My heart thudded in my chest as Evelyn slowly lifted her head. She was ab
