EVELYN’S POV:

My legs hurt badly and throbbed, making it hard for me move. As I forced myself to stir, I could see darkness around me.

Fear filled me.

"Did Alpha John find me?" The thought made my stomach churn.

I tried to sit up, but my limbs felt like lead. “Where am I?” I struggled to think when I noticed a strange scent brush my senses. It was calming, like a breath of fresh air. It was the same one I had perceived just before I passed out.

As I pushed myself up, I realized I was lying on a bed, soft and comfortable compared to the rough ground of the woods I had fainted on.

The cool fabric felt nice against my skin.

I pressed my fingers into the plush mattress to confirm I wasn’t dreaming.

“What happened?” I whispered. I quickly looked around the room I was in.

Sunlight poured through a large window, filling the space with warm light.

I heard rustling sounds from outside, mixed with a rooster crowing. This meant that it was already the next morning.
