Melissa's POV

“Congratulations, Mrs. Melissa, you are three weeks pregnant.” The words of the doctor were recalled in my head, as I placed my hands on my belly.

A huge smile spread across my face as I arranged the last few flowers on the dining table.

Today, my husband and mate, Alpha Derek Winston of the Golden Fang Pack, will be returning from training camp.

Today was also our anniversary celebration of being together for five years, it all felt so surreal. I already had every detail planned out for what a private celebration would look like.

His favorite had been prepared already, with drinks and flowers littered around, just to make the room fit more into a romantic scenery.

Derek had been away for few months, although it felt like an eternity because there was no means of contacting each other as phones were not allowed at the training camp.

My hand instinctively found its place on the belly and I envisioned a scene where I would jump on him the moment he returned, showering with kisses before throwing in the bombshell.

And at that moment, the doorbell rang and I needed no one to inform me that my lovely husband had finally returned.

I ran to the door and pulled it open, letting him come in before jumping on him.

“Happy anniversary, my love,” I screamed, jumping on him, wraing my hands around his neck. His next action was something I never in a million years expected. He roughly pushed me off, and I almost landed on the floor.

He didn’t care to check on me, instead, he turned around without stopping, and it stung more than anything.

What could be the problem? Did I do anything to get him angry?

I tried to rid myself of all the negative thoughts, convincing myself that the moment I told him about the baby, whatever was upsetting him would be tossed aside.

Taking a deep breath, I approached him with a smile on my face. “How was the trip?”

“The training!” I quickly corrected myself, to avoid pissing him off but no reply came. He was busy rummaging through his bag. “You seem so angry, what is the matter? I... I have something to share with you.”

He suddenly gave me a dark stare. “Not now,” he said sharply, more cruely than I had ever imagine.

The words hurt me a lot, but I managed to smile and hold myself together. “Please, it will just be for a moment. It’s important to me,

“I—” I stretched my hand softly, placing it on his arm.

But without any warning, he pushed me. Hard. I fell and landed on my knees.

Pain shot through me on the side I landed on but that was nothing compared to the pain that I felt in my heart.

“Did… did I do something wrong?” I eventually asked looking up hoping he would tell me

The man who stood in front of me was the one who was supposed to love me and keep me safe and he was looking at me with a blank stare.

He did not say anything. Rather he reached for the briefcase beside him and took out a thick pile of documents.

I saw the heading of the document and felt as though I had lost my balance. Divorce Agreement.

“Sign them,” he ordered, shoving the document to me. “After which I’ll reject you as my mate and our bond will be severed.”

My heart felt like it was broken into pieces. No, no, this was impossible. Not on this day that I was going to tell him that I was carrying his child.

“Why?” I questioned as tears began welling up in my eyes. I struggled to stand up and reach to touch him. “Please, I beg you… tell me why. I don’t get it. I thought… I thought we were happily married.”

I was about to speak again but was interrupted by the sound of heels tapping loudly on the floor behind me.

I turned around and it was Laura, my cousin, walking towards us.

She came closer to us and I couldn't understand what she was doing there.

“Laura?” She barely glanced at me and averted her gaze to him.

His eyes showed warmth that he hadn’t shown to me In a couple of months.

“Hey, baby,” Laura said, wrapping her arms around him happily. I felt sick as she leaned to him and kissed him.

The world around me was turning against me.

I choked out a sound that was meant to be a sob. “What… this… what is this? Laura?”

She turned at the moment, a grin on her face.

“Oh, but I must apologize, did you not notice?” she asked, her tone belittling.

“Your husband and I have been together for a while now. He needs an heir, so he can no longer be with a barren woman like you.”

Each of her words burnt me as though I was slapped. I looked at him with a similar gaze, seeking explanations or any sign of regret in his eyes, no matter how petty it seemed, but there was none.

“Is this true?” I asked him.

He didn’t even stutter for a second. “Yes,” he replied. “I no longer want you. Simply put your signature on the documents, so I can get this over with, okay? Whatever is between us comes to an end today.”

My heart shattered and I fell on my knees, shaking as I held his pant leg. “No…” I said, desperately. “Don’t do this.”

“Please, please don't do this. Whatever it takes, I will do it. I just… Not like this. End whatever it is between you two. Just return to me.” I pleaded with him.

“It has been resolved and you know it. It is over. This is something you have to come to terms with. I want you to sign the divorce papers and then leave in peace.”

I shook my head. “No. I’m not signing anything. This isn’t how I want it to end.”

“Does it have to be this hard? It’s already over, and you’re only going to make it worse for yourself.”

“Because I still believe in us, even if you don’t.”

“Enough of this,” he stated in a more demanding manner.

“Sign them and give it up.”

“I won't. I can’t.” He looked down on me and there was nothing in his eyes. No remorse, or in no way apologetic, it was as if I was just an obstacle in his way.

“I don’t care whatever it is you want,” he answered, withdrawing his leg. “Just sign the papers and save yourself the shame.”

My vision was blurred by the tears, but I couldn’t let go. I wouldn't let go of everything we had worked so hard to build.

I had to make him see. “Please, just… listen. I was going to tell you… I’m ” I tried to say with great difficulty but was interrupted.

“I don't want to hear anything you have to say. How many times do I have to say it?”

I saw the delight in Laura's face. I felt the floor opening up and taking under. Everything around me was collapsing fast and I had no idea why.

Before I knew what was going on, he used his speed to get to me. In one swift movement, he leaned down and seized my hand with force.

He was suddenly in front of me, leaning towards me. I felt pain as he stabbed a needle into my finger, drawing blood.

Before I had a chance to retract my hand, he held the bleeding finger and forcefully pressed it onto the signature line of the divorce documents. This was when I realized what he had just done.

“I, Alpha Derek Winston of the Golden Fang Pack, reject Melissa Parker as my mate.”

Finally accepting it all, I opened my mouth. “I accept your rejection.”

She heard everything Liam said, but her heart was pounding too fast, heat spreading through her body.“I think Uncle Knox’s friend is with that man,” Liam added, glancing at her. “Look—Uncle Knox is walking over to him.”Even though she didn’t want to, Melissa found herself looking in that direction. She saw Derek staring straight at them… like he could see through the tinted windows. She tried to calm her racing thoughts, to pretend she knew nothing, when Knox—walking like a man heading into battle—approached the coffee shop entrance.Then—boom.She saw them collide.A sharp gasp escaped her, almost turning into a scream.“Mom… Mom, are you okay?” Liam asked, tilti

Derek’s SUV rolled into the coffee shop’s parking lot a minute before Knox arrived. He didn’t let the engine die before slipping out of the car, moving as if he’d been inside a fire since the drive."Alpha. Are you sure about this?” Michael’s worried voice stopped him halfway out of the car.“Yes, I’m sure, Michael! Stay here. Don’t come in,” Derek said, his tone sharper than he intended, ignoring the flicker of fear coiling in his chest.“Fine,” Michael muttered, his face a sketch of defeat. “Here… these are the things.” He stretched out his hands, passing Lena’s belongings to Derek.Derek took the black tote, wrapped carefully with her items. He hadn’t fully decided to return them yet… there was a condition before the bag would be released to anyone inside that coffee shop. Each time he thought of Knox’s messages, he laughed dryly. The condition: he had to be taken to the mother and her kids before he would release the bag.To be sure. Maybe to get to know them better.“Hahhh!” Dere

Her heart pounded fast, almost violently, her emotions clashing inside her—anger, fear, and confusion—all mixed into one overwhelming storm. She reread the text again, slowly this time, like her brain hadn’t fully absorbed it the first time, like it was playing tricks on her, like it refused to accept what she was seeing. Then another message dropped. You now keep secrets, Lisa?
