Isabella's POV

The Rolls hadn’t even come to a full stop before Genny was out of the car, heels clicking like gunfire on the gravel.

I followed, legs numb, heart hammering so hard I could taste it.

She didn’t head for the drawing room. She marched straight to the library, flung the double doors open, and snapped, “Everyone, now.”

Within five minutes the entire household was there.

Eli strode in still in his suit from the city, tie loosened.

Jayden jogged down the stairs barefoot, lap

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 53: What She Allows Herself to Want

Isabella's POVWe'd been working late for nearly two hours, reviewing the final logistics contracts before the board meeting the next morning, the building quiet around us the way it usually was once everyone else had gone home."This clause," Julien said, pointing to a section in the shipping agreement, "is worded almost identically to something my mother's team used to bury in Hamilton contracts. I used to think it was just standard legal language. It took me embarrassingly long to realize it was actually designed to make certain penalties nearly impossible to enforce.""How embarrassingly long?" I asked."Four years," he admitted. "I signed off on contracts with that exact clause for four years before someone finally pointed it out to me, and even then I only half believed them until I read it myself three more times.""That's not embarrassing," I said. "That's willful blindness.""That's fair," he said, something rueful in his expression. "In my defense, I was very good at willful

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 52: The Question He Doesn't Ask

Julien's POVMarcus Whitmore found me at a quiet restaurant downtown, the kind of place he used to frequent when he still worked closely with my father, back before either of us understood how thoroughly that world would eventually collapse."Julien," he said, settling into the seat across from me. "Thank you for meeting.""Of course," I said. "It's been a while.""It has." He studied me for a moment, something careful in his expression. "I heard you're still working under Isabella Hartford. Logistics, I understand.""That's right.""I have to admit," he said, "when I first heard, I assumed it was temporary. A necessary humbling, maybe, before you found your footing again somewhere more suited to your actual capabilities.""It's not temporary," I said. "It's where I intend to stay."He nodded slowly, though something in his expression suggested he hadn't fully accepted that answer yet. "I wanted to talk to you about an opportunity," he said. "I've been quietly building something new.

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 51: Old Ghosts, New Ground

Isabella's POVFor the first time in longer than I could remember, I woke up without a crisis waiting for me.No emergency board session. No headline threatening to unravel months of careful work. No brother calling before sunrise with news that changed the shape of my entire week. Sterling had withdrawn, formally and completely. My father, for the first time in thirty-one years, slept easier knowing the truth had finally surfaced. Margaret remained in quiet exile somewhere in Europe, no longer a threat to anyone but herself. The quiet, when it finally arrived, felt strange. Almost uncomfortable, in a way I hadn't expected.I'd spent so many years moving from one battle directly into the next that I'd forgotten what stillness actually asked of a person. Without a war to manage, without some external threat demanding my full attention, I found myself with room to feel things I'd been carefully outrunning for a very long time.Grief, first. Not for the marriage itself, exactly, but for

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 50: Small Permission

Julien's POVShe hadn't corrected me since that night. I noticed it the way you notice something you've been quietly hoping for without letting yourself expect it fully.Isabella. Not Mrs. Hartford, spoken with careful distance every time our conversations edged too close to anything personal. Just Isabella, said easily now, in hallways, in meetings, in the small, unremarkable moments that made up most of our days working together. She hadn't invited the familiarity outright, hadn't said anything explicit acknowledging the shift. But she hadn't rebuilt the wall back to its original height either, and I understood the difference mattered enormously, even if neither of us discussed it directly.I was careful not to push it. I'd learned, slowly, painfully, over these past several months, exactly how much damage came from mistaking a single soft moment for something larger than it actually was. A crack in a wall wasn't an open door. Vulnerability after an emotional victory over Sterling w

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 49: The Name She Doesn't Correct

Isabella's POVI didn't know what to do with the silence that followed.Standing there in my office, watching Julien's expression settle into something quiet and hopeful after I'd said his name back without the usual formality, I expected the moment to feel awkward. Vulnerable in a way that made me want to retreat, reach for the careful distance I'd relied on for months to keep everything between us contained and manageable.Instead, the silence felt easy. Comfortable in a way that unsettled me far more than discomfort would have."I should go," I said finally, breaking it before I could examine it too closely. "It's been a long day.""Of course," he said, stepping back to give me room. "Goodnight, Isabella."He said it again, my name, simple and unguarded, and I let it pass without correction a second time, feeling something warm and unfamiliar settle into my chest as I gathered my things and left.I drove home in a strange kind of quiet, the city moving past my window without really

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 48: What Remains

Isabella's POVSterling's formal withdrawal came through legal channels on Thursday morning, a full day before the deadline I'd given him. Every share connected to Ashcombe Partners transferred out of Meridian Logistics within seventy-two hours, accompanied by a carefully worded agreement ensuring Sterling Capital would never again attempt any acquisition connected to Hartford Enterprises or its affiliates.Quiet retreat. No public admission, no formal apology, nothing that acknowledged the fraud buried in those decades-old documents. But he'd chosen exactly what I expected him to choose, given the alternative. Quiet retreat over public ruin.I sat with the confirmation for a long time that morning, waiting to feel the triumph I'd expected, the same sharp satisfaction I remembered feeling, briefly, when Margaret finally collapsed under the weight of her own schemes. It didn't come the same way this time. What settled into my chest instead was quieter. Older. Something closer to relief

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 9: The Day Out

Isabella's POV Aunt Genevieve arrived like a hurricane in haute couture. The dove-gray Rolls purred up the drive at exactly ten. She stepped out in sunglasses big enough to have their own postcode, a cream silk jumpsuit, and heels that could double as weapons. One look at my borrowed hoodie and

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 7: Home at Last

Isabella's POV The car turned off the main road and the gates appeared, tall, black iron, the Hartford crest still gleaming in the dusk. I forgot how to breathe. Jayden slowed the Bentley, rolled the window down, and the scent hit me first: lilacs. Hundreds of them, thousands, spilling over the

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 6: A trip down Memory lane

For some moments the room felt still. Isabella’s words hung in the air, trembling between disbelief and revelation. “I—I remember.” Jayden didn’t speak right away. He just watched her, watched the way her shoulders shook, the way her fingers pressed into the couch as though she needed something s

  • Rejected, Now He Craves For Me   Chapter 3: How did you get this?

Isabella sat in the backseat, her luggage beside her, staring at her reflection on the glass as the city outside blurred past the tinted windows. The driver barely spoke, only glanced at her through the rearview mirror when he stopped in front of the hotel entrance — a towering structure of glas
