Chris

He’s laughing when I pin him.

That kind of half-choked, breathless sound he only makes when he forgets we’re supposed to be careful.

We’re in the room behind the inn. Meant for training, or meditation. But right now it’s filled with the sharp scent of sweat, wolf heat, and the impossible thrum of want beating through both of us.

I shouldn’t be doing this. We shouldn’t. Especially not here.

But I have him flat on his back, panting, his wrists caught in my hands, and I’m straddling his hips like it’s the most natural thing in the world.

And gods help me, it feels like it is.

“Chris,” he murmurs, voice hoarse. “You’re not being fair.”

“You kissed me first.”

“You tackled me after.”

“I regret nothing.”

He smiles, and it breaks something open in my chest.

I dip down and kiss him hard, tongue sliding over his like we’ve got nothing left to lose. He groans against my mouth, biting my lower lip as he presses his hips up into mine.

The friction makes me gasp.

“Fuck,” he breathes.

VictoriaIt snaps like bone. Not loudly. Not even with an audible sound.Just a break inside me. A violent vacuum where there used to be a connection. Something warm, or soft, or his. Now it’s just… gone.He cut it. He cut me. Not just out of his body, out of his life.My knees slam into the floor of my chamber and I don’t feel it. Not the pain. Not the cold. There is only emptiness left. The tether is gone. The hook I laid so carefully, so deliberately, burned right out of him and she wasn’t even the one to do it.Scarlett’s flame licked through it, but it was Erik’s choice that severed it.And that’s what guts me. He chose her. Again. In the most permanent way possible. Not in the way boys pick pretty girls. This wasn’t about affection. It was about allegiance. About power. About faith. He believes in her. Even knowing what she could become. Even after everything I offered him.He still gave her his loyalty.I claw at the rug, trying to breathe, trying to pull magic to me. But it sp

ErikThe tether tugs. Not softly. Not like the usual hum of Scarlett’s magic brushing against mine in sleep or silence. This is sharp. Urgent. Wrong.I shoot upright, breath caught in my throat. Next to me, Scarlett stirs too, face buried in the pillow, a frown tightening her brow.“Erik,” she mumbles, not fully awake.“I feel it,” I whisper. And I do. Something is moving. No, someone. The pull isn’t from Scarlett. It’s not the warmth of her fire pressing into me. It’s cold. Familiar. Familiar in the worst way.The hook pulses once. Then again, much harder. My chest tightens. Not with fear, not entirely. It’s more like pressure. Like I’m being drawn into something not of my making.I get up fast, ignoring the way my knees threaten to buckle. Scarlett’s fire clings to me like it doesn’t want me to go.But I have to. Because I know what this is.Victoria is calling and I’m done answering to her for anything.I don’t tell Scarlett where I’m going. She’d follow if she knew, and this time,

ScarlettI feel them before I see them. With the part of me that was wolf before it was flame. The part that knows when something unnatural is near.I hear no footsteps, But I know they’re here. The Circle of Silence doesn’t need to knock. They slip into places, into thoughts. Into gaps. Into fear. But they made a mistake this time. They came for me in a place where I’m awake and in full control of my faculties.I don’t tell anyone where I’m going.I leave the inn at twilight, before the sun fully dies and the cold sets in. I don’t want the others here for this. Not Erik, not Aunt Cerelia, not even my mother. This is mine.A final warning to the ones who keep trying to shape me into something I never agreed to become. The Circle is waiting in the courtyard behind the old church. The one that hasn’t held prayers in a hundred years. They like quiet places. Forgotten places. They think it gives them power. An aura of mystery and some kind of psychic power. They’re wrong. There are three

HildaI don’t need omens to tell me what’s coming. The scent of it is already in the air. Burnt copper, cracked threads, lightning without a storm.Something is about to break. And this time, I’m not going to wait for it to come to my door.I’m going to meet it at the edge of the woods, teeth bared.Cerelia stands beside me in the small clearing behind the inn, arms crossed, brows furrowed. She looks like she hasn’t slept in days.Which means she’s been dreaming too.The dreams aren’t just Scarlett’s anymore. They’re bleeding into all of us. Threads tugging in our bones, whispers curling at the back of our teeth. The Weave is fraying, and my daughter is at the center of it.Of course she is. Of course my brilliant, stubborn, blazing girl is the eye of the storm. It’s in her bloody DNA.“She’s being hunted,” I say flatly.Cerelia nods. “By more than one faction.”“The Circle of Silence, the Court of Fire, and Loki… and now Victoria.”“She’s coming undone.”“No. She’s becoming something

VictoriaI can’t sleep. Not because of the nightmares. Because of the waking.Every time I close my eyes, I feel it moving under my skin. The magic Loki gave me – gifted, seeded, bartered – it never quiets. It paces, sharp and animalistic, coiling tighter every time I deny it.It doesn’t want to rest. It wants to rule.I press my palms flat against the bathroom sink and look up at my reflection. The light is too soft for the truth, but I see enough. The whites of my eyes are tinged with gold again. Not fully, not yet. But it’s creeping. And my fingertips glow faintly.Power used to be something I wanted for myself. For control. For clarity. Now it feels like something watching me.I splash water on my face. The mirror doesn’t fog, it ripples. And I suddenly see her. Scarlett.Flames in her blood, stubborn on her mouth, and Erik’s name stitched into her spine like a vow. She’s the storm everyone whispers about in dark corners, but they’ve forgotten what I am.I lean closer and whisper,

ErikThe hook doesn’t sleep. It waits.Coiled behind my ribs like frost caught in a warm body. Waiting for a crack. For weakness. For her to call.It stirs again now. Victoria’s ice curling cold fingers around the frayed edge of the tether I share with Scarlett.I feel it in the way the heat in my chest shudders and recoils. The connection between us, Scarlett and me, is flame and fury, and the hook tries to mimic it.It doesn’t understand what it’s trying to copy. Twisting affection into compulsion. Loyalty into longing. It never succeeds. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t try.I press my knuckles hard into the wood of the window frame, my breath fogging the glass. It’s night. The kind of dark that clings to your shoulders. The kind that knows your name.Behind me, Scarlett stirs in her sleep. I don’t look over at her.I don’t want her to see me like this. Half bent under the weight of something we can’t excise, not yet. She already carries enough. She knows about everything and she s
