Darkness pulled at me.

Heavy. Suffocating. Endless.

For a moment, I welcomed it.

It was easier than the pain… easier than the humiliation… easier than remembering the way my world had shattered in a single sentence.

I, Alpha Kael… reject you.

Even now, the echo of it burned.

But then,warmth.

Strange… unfamiliar warmth.

Not gentle,not soft,powerful, but demanding.

My consciousness flickered.

Voices… distant at first.

“…she’s still alive.”

“Barely.” a pause followed

Then “Good.”

My eyes snapped open.

I gasped sharply, dragging in air as if I had been drowning.

The first thing I saw… was him.

The Alpha.

He stood a few steps away, his back partially turned, speaking to two other wolves who immediately lowered their heads in submission.

Even without facing me, his presence filled the entire space.

Dominant. Unshakable.

Dangerous.

Panic surged through me.

I pushed myself up too quickly, pain shooting through my body as dizziness hit me hard.

I nearly collapsed again, but forced myself to stay upright.

I wouldn’t look weak.

Not again.

His head turned slightly.

He had noticed.

Of course he had.

“Awake already?” His voice was calm… almost bored.

But there was something underneath it.

Something sharp.

I said nothing.

Did nothing.

Just watched him carefully, every instinct on high alert.

He dismissed the others with a single look.

They disappeared instantly.

Leaving just the two of us.

Silence fell.

Thick. Heavy. Charged.

Slowly… he turned fully to face me.

And for the first time, I saw him clearly.

He was… terrifying.

Not just because of his size or strength, but because of the quiet control in his expression. The kind of control that meant he didn’t need to prove anything.

He already knew what he was capable of.

My throat went dry.

He stepped closer.

Once.

Twice.

Until the distance between us felt dangerously small.

I didn’t move.

Couldn’t move.

His eyes locked onto mine.

And then, his gaze dropped.

To my neck.

A frown touched his lips.

Confusion.

No… not confusion.

Recognition.

“You feel it, don’t you?” he said quietly.

My brows pulled together.

“Feel… what?”

He didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, he reached out.

Slowly.

Deliberately.

I flinched when his fingers brushed against my skin, but he didn’t stop.

His touch lingered at my neck.

Right where a mark should have been.

But wasn’t.

My breath hitched.

And then, it hit me.

A pull.

Deep. Unavoidable. Magnetic.

Stronger than anything I had ever felt before.

Stronger than what I had felt with Kael.

My eyes widened.

“No…” I whispered.

That wasn’t possible.

It couldn’t be.

His gaze darkened.

And this time, there was no mistaking it.

Possession.

Certainty.

When he spoke… his voice was low.

Final.

Unarguable.

“You belong to me.”

The words slammed into me.

Harder than the rejection.

More terrifying than death.

“No,” I said quickly, shaking my head. “No you’re wrong. I already had a mate.

“You had a mate,” he cut in coldly.

“Now you don’t.”

I froze.

He stepped even closer.

Close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from his body… the sheer power in his presence.

“The bond you felt before?” he continued, his voice dropping slightly, almost dangerous in its softness. “Weak. Breakable.”

His fingers tightened slightly against my skin.

Not hurting.

But claiming.

“This one…” his eyes held mine, intense and unwavering, “is not.”

My heart pounded wildly.

Fear.

Confusion.

Something else I didn’t want to name.

“I won’t accept it,” I said, even as my voice betrayed me.

A faint smirk touched his lips.

Like he already knew how pointless that was.

“You don’t have a choice.”

The words settled between us.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

Then he straightened, stepping back just enough to break the contact but not the tension.

“Get some rest,” he said, turning away from me again like the conversation was already over. “You’ll need it.”

My hands trembled at my sides.

“For what?” I demanded, forcing strength into my voice.

He paused.

Just for a second.

Then, without looking back

“For your new life.”

  • Rejected by my Alpha, claimed by his mate   The First Celebration

By sunset, the entire kingdom knew.Or at least they knew enough. The ancient burden was gone. The kingdom was safe. And for the first time in generations, people had a reason to celebrate without fear lurking in the background. The capital exploded into life.Music drifted through the streets.Lanterns illuminated every building.Food stalls appeared seemingly out of nowhere.Children ran through the crowds laughing.Merchants abandoned business long enough to join the festivities.Even the palace staff seemed incapable of acting professional. Not that I blamed them but the mood was contagious.I stood on a palace balcony overlooking the city below. The sight was breathtaking.Thousands of lights stretched across the kingdom like stars scattered across the earth. For a moment, I simply watched, listened and enjoyed. No crisis, no danger,no prophecy just life. The balcony doors opened behind me.I didn't need to turn around.I already knew who it was."You disappeared."Darius's voice

  • Rejected by my Alpha, claimed by his mate   A Kingdom Reborn

The doors of the Great Hall opened. And every conversation stopped.Instantly, hundreds of eyes turned toward us.Nobles, warriors, pack leaders, members of the royal court.People filled every corner of the enormous chamber. The moment felt oddly familiar.Which was unfortunate.Because large crowds and I had never been friends.I resisted the urge to turn around and leave.Darius noticed.Of course he did.His thumb brushed lightly against my hand.A silent reminder, you're not alone. My wolf purred.Traitor.We walked forward together.Kael followed behind us, somehow looking both important and completely uninterested at the same time.An impressive skill. At the front of the hall stood the King. For the first time since I had met him, he looked...Peaceful, not happy, not carefree. The grief of centuries didn't disappear overnight. But the weight crushing him seemed lighter and manageable. The hall fell completely silent as he stepped forward. His voice carried easily through the

  • Rejected by my Alpha, claimed by his mate   The Morning After

I woke up confused. For one glorious second, I had no idea where I was.No ancient chambers, no cursed queens and no life-altering revelations.Just warmth, soft blankets, and the faint sound of birds outside the window. Then reality returned, the curse was gone. The First Queen was gone. And somehow, I was still here and alive.I stared at the ceiling for a long moment.Waiting, for anxiety, for dread, or for some new responsibility to come crashing down on me.Nothing happened. The silence felt strange.Almost suspicious.A knock sounded at the door. Before I could answer, it swung open.Kael walked in carrying a tray of food."Good. You're awake."I sat up immediately."Why do you have food?""Because I'm a caring friend."I narrowed my eyes."That's not the real reason.""Fine."He set the tray down dramatically."Darius threatened me."That sounded more accurate.I laughed despite myself. The tray contained enough food to feed a small army.Fresh bread, fruit, eggs and tea.Sever

  • Rejected by my Alpha, claimed by his mate   The End of the Burden

The crack echoed through the chamber like thunder.Golden light burst across the floor. Then the ancient circle shattered. Not physically but magically. The glowing symbols fractured into thousands of tiny sparks that drifted upward before fading into nothing.Gone, completely gone. For a moment, nobody moved.Nobody spoke. The silence felt sacred somehow.Like the chamber itself was mourning, or maybe finally resting. The King stood staring at the empty space where his daughter had disappeared.Centuries of grief carved across his face, this made me look away. Some losses deserved privacy, even after hundreds of years.Kael, surprisingly, remained quiet.A miracle in itself.Darius's hand found mine again.Gentle and steady. Not because he thought I needed saving.Just because he was there. The absence of the ancient magic felt strange.Lighter.The chamber no longer felt like a prison.Just stone.Old stone beneath an old kingdom.Nothing more. The burden that had shaped generations

  • Rejected by my Alpha, claimed by his mate   The Queen Who Stayed Behind

The golden figure flickered like firelight across the chamber. Not fully solid, not exactly a ghost either, but more like memory given shape. The First Queen stood at the center of the glowing circle dressed in gold armor stained faintly with blood. She looked younger than I expected.Tired too, not ancient, not mythical, just exhausted.Silence swallowed the room whole.Kael stared openly.“…Okay, that’s unsettling.”Honestly?Agreed.The First Queen’s gaze moved slowly across the chamber before finally landing on me.And the moment it did, pain crossed her expression. Not surprise.Recognition.“Hello, little wolf.”The words hit something deep inside my chest.Darius shifted closer beside me instantly.Protective instinct, human this time but chosen. The Queen noticed.A faint sad smile touched her face.“Still choosing love,” she murmured. The King stood completely still now.Not as ruler but as a father.“You stayed behind,” he said quietly. The Queen looked toward him slowly.Em

  • Rejected by my Alpha, claimed by his mate   The Chamber Below

The palace corridors suddenly felt too familiar again.Too tense, too fast.Darius and I followed the guard through the lower levels beneath the palace while every bad possibility raced through my head. The seal couldn’t be breaking already. That was impossible, I remade it myself.…Right? The thought wasn’t comforting enough.Darius walked beside me silently, one hand brushing mine occasionally like quiet reassurance. Not possessive, just there but real.By the time we reached the underground corridors, the air had changed.Colder and heavier.Ancient magic hummed faintly through the stone walls. My wolf stirred uneasily beneath my skin. Not fear exactly just recognition.Guards lined the entrance to the lower chamber when we arrived.None of them looked comfortable being there.Kael stood near the doorway already holding a torch and what appeared to be deep regret.“You’re late.”“We walked here like normal people,” I replied.“You should’ve run. This place is horrifying.”Reasonabl
