Derek Hale POV

"Look at this shiny pink stone, it is the big legendary moon gem of the Beacon Moon Territory," I say, opening the tiny box inside the silver box that moves up and down. "The Argent Silvermoon Pack does not even know I have enough resources on this card to buy their Silvermoon Alpha Holdings ten times over."

"Well, well, if it is not the weak little Derek!" Scott Hale says, stepping right in front of me with blue flowers in his hands. "You look like a sad lost pup today."

"Move out of my way, Scott, I do not want to talk to you."

"Look, everyone, Malia's little lapdog is barking at me! The Argent family finally threw you out of the pack house, didn't they?"

"I said move, Scott."

"This looks like a cheap piece of junk you found in the dirt! Malia of Silvermoon would never want this garbage from a nobody."

"Stop! Do not touch that!"

"Oops! Look at it roll on the floor!" Scott laughs, knocking the box right out of my hand. "Wait, is that the 7.5 million gem from the Moonstone Healing Labs? How did a poor young pack healer like you steal that?"

"Pick it up now, Scott, or you will be sorry."

"Grab him, bodyguards! He is a thief and a nobody who does not belong in our Beacon Moon City Core!"

"You think your guards can save you?" I yell, and I hit Scott right across his face with my hand.

"Ah! My tooth!" Scott screams, flying back into the wall and spitting bright red blood on the floor. "You hurt me!"

"Get him!" the two big guards shout, running at me with their big wolf claws out.

"Too slow," I say, and I hit them both in the nose with two fast punches until they fall asleep on the floor.

"You are a monster!" Scott cries, shaking on the ground like a scared pup.

"Derek! What did you do to Scott?" Elder Irene, Talia Argent, screams as she runs out of the Alpha Council Chamber with Malia. "Did you lose your mind?"

"He touched my things, Talia."

"You are just angry because Malia broke the eternal lunar bond, you crazy rogue! I will make you pay for hurting Scott!"

"Malia, do you really believe I just hit him for no reason?"

"My pack business is none of your concern, Derek, but you should not start fights in the Silvermoon Alpha Tower."

"Malia, your ex-mate is a psycho! He stole the 7.5 million legendary moon gem just to make you look at him again!" Scott yells, holding his big swollen face.

"What? Derek, did you really steal the King of Diamonds gem from the Lunar Healing Order?" Malia asks, and her face gets very dark and mad. "I always wanted that gem for our Moon Gala, but not like this!"

"He is a poor pack healer, Malia! How else could he get a royal pack treasure?" Talia barks. "I should have never given that box back to him!"

"Is that what you think of me, Malia? You think I am a thief?"

"Being a poor omega is not a crime, Derek, but stealing to look big just makes me hate you more!" Malia yells, pulling out her small talk-box.

"We are going to the Silver Fang Healing Center now," I tell my driver inside the big black territory runner.

"Ring! Ring!" my talk-box goes, and it is Malia calling me again.

"What do you want, Malia? We are done."

"Derek, listen to me right now! Turn your body in to the Alpha Elder before the guards catch you! That gem is worth 7.5 million pack resources!"

"I did not steal anything."

"Stop lying, Derek! Scott and all my pack helpers saw you with it! If you go to the cells now, Silvermoon Alpha Holdings can use our power to keep you from getting locked in a cage!"

"You trust Scott over me after three years in the same den?"

"The owner of that gem is a scary territory alpha, Derek! I cannot protect you if they track your scent!"

"I do not need your protection, Luna Queen Malia. Call the guards if you want, I am not scared of your rules."

"Derek, why are you being so" Malia starts to shout, but I shut the talk-box off.

"I cannot believe he just cut me off," Malia tells her mom, looking at her hands. "The old Derek never talked back to me like that."

"I told you he is just an ungrateful rogue, Malia," Scott says, smiling with his bloody mouth. "It is a good thing you dropped him before he dragged our whole pack down."

"Stop talking, Scott, it makes me mad," Malia says, turning her back. "Why are you even here at the Silvermoon Alpha Tower today?"

"Ouch, my face hurts," Scott groans. "Did you forget about the big moon feast tonight for the Moonborn Refuge? Every powerful alpha in the Crescent Ridge Territory wants that land, and we must win it!"

"You are right, we need to go to the Shadow Pack Stronghold now," Malia says.

Derek's teeth bared in a dangerous grin. "Now that is incredibly interesting to my ears. If your wolf has never run these trails and knows absolutely nothing about the geography of this valley, how did your tracking team manage to find the direct path to this hidden cavern within an hour?"Jerry stood completely speechless, his throat locking as he found himself unable to formulate a lie.Derek pressed on, his voice dropping to a low growl that made the guards behind Jerry lower their heads. "Don't bother making up excuses about your nose. The paths outside this cave are narrow, winding, and completely masked by ancient rogue vegetation. For a city-dwelling warrior who claims to have never stepped foot on this dirt to find this opening so easily, one might think your beast grew up running these exact trails."Lydia commented, her eyes shifting between them, "Derek, Jerry comes from a prestigious martial arts lineage in the northern keeps. He couldn't possibly be a common stray from th

Realizing that I was about to purge my stomach, his wolf's eyes widened in shock and he lunged out of his seat. He bared his fangs, growling anxiously, "You only consumed the roasted river fish. Why is your inner beast rejecting it? Are you carrying a pup?"His words made a cold sweat break out across my neck, my core tightening with absolute panic. There was no time to think about my secret pregnancy or how he could smell it. Within seconds, I bolted down the corridor of the tavern, locking myself inside the washroom and spending an eternity dry-heaving, emptying my stomach's contents into the stone basin. When the violent nausea finally passed, I turned around to see Derek standing rigidly right inside the broken doorway, his shadow completely blotting out the torchlight."Malia, we are going to the Silver Fang Healing Center right now," he growled. His low, dominant tone was stripped of all warmth, sounding completely detached."No, I refuse to set foot near the Lunar Healing Order

After drinking some water, I glanced at him and avoided his question. "Do you think you will be able to successfully complete Silvermoon Alpha Holdings' annual audit if I hand it over to you?"Seeing that I had changed the subject, he pursed his lips and sprawled on the table again, speaking in a feeble voice, "I will only know after doing it, so how am I supposed to answer your question now, Malia?"I furrowed my brows, slightly reluctant to continue the conversation. "Silvermoon Alpha Holdings has recently gone public in the territory, so there is a lot of pack resources involved. I am sure you know better than me how the slightest mistake can lead to a colossal territorial loss. Since I am the person-in-charge this year, of course I have to be more mindful!" He narrowed his eyes a fraction, those golden orbs glowing slightly. "Malia, do you think I am incapable of doing a good job for the pack's audit?"My brows lifted, but I refrained from being too direct. With a smile, I said, "

"Inform me beforehand?" I interjected. My eyes darted to hers before I explained, "I am not Derek's only subordinate. If he has to explain every little thing word by word, then what is the point of employing so many people? He might as well do everything on his own.""But you are his Luna!"I found it funny, looking at her to say, "Yes, I am his Luna. Putting aside the fact that he is not satisfied with me as his Luna, even if he was, he is still the Supreme Alpha of Silvermoon Alpha Holdings, while I am the director. In the pack dominion, we are superior and subordinate. If I am so stupid that I need him to point out everything, he might as well tell me to go home and be a full-time housewife!"In the werewolf world, pure intelligence would get you nowhere; only experience slowly accumulated from hard and laborious work would bring you far.Back in my office inside the Alpha Dominion Tower, Sydney Hale made a dinner appointment with the representative of the Whittemore Nightfang Pack

Crash!A heavy, shattering vibration rattled the thick wooden framing of the chamber. I instantly threw the deadbolt on the heavy oak door of the washroom and pressed my back against the cold stone wall, clutching my stomach. My inner wolf whimpered, curled into a tight, trembling ball of sheer terror inside my mind. I knew that if Derek truly wanted to force his way in, the wooden door would offer about as much resistance as dry leaves against a winter gale.Sure enough, it took less than three seconds before the iron-reinforced door shuddered violently, the wood splintering inward as he threw his shoulder against it."What the hell are you doing, Malia?" Derek roared, his deep, dominant Alpha voice reverberating off the stone tiles. He was standing right on the threshold, his thick, raw musk of cedar and untamed forest bleeding into the small space.I pressed my palms flat against the wood, desperate to shut out his suffocating presence. "I do not want you near me, Derek! Get away f

"Malia, what are you doing?" Derek's voice rumbles through the phone speaker, vibrating against the steering wheel of my SUV.I glance at the digital clock on the dashboard of my vehicle. It is already ten at night. My fingers tighten around the leather wheel as I pull out of the dimly lit underbelly of the Silver Fang Healing Center."I am just leaving the sanctuary," I mutter, my voice sounding smaller than I want. "I had to finish up some charts for the Lunar Healing Order. Why are you calling me so late?""I wanted to hear your voice," he says, his tone dropping into that low, possessive register that usually makes my inner wolf purr. Tonight, it only makes my stomach twist. "You have been avoiding me, Malia. Ever since Jackson lost everything in the West End development, you have been distant. Is your wolf still mourning that pathetic Nightfang pup?""Jackson has nothing to do with this," I lie, my eyes scanning the dark, empty corners of the subterranean sanctuary parking lot. T
