Alpha Carter POV Elizabeth jumps to her feet, screaming at her father. “What the hell are you talking about? You promised I would not have to give Carter up. You swore you understood what a mate bond meant to me,” she says as she starts to walk towards the door. “Where are you going?” the King bellows at his daughter. “As far away from you as possible,” she replies as she walks out the door slamming it shut behind her. “What the hell are you playing at, Ethan?” Queen Erin demands of her mate. “I am not playing at anything, Erin. You know damn well that this Kingdom is at risk. We need her to be focused on the task at hand,” he replies to his mate angrily. “Not this way. We never agreed that she would have to give up her mate,” the Queen says to her mate. “I will not do it,” I reply to them both. The Queen looks to me with respect in her eyes. “I cannot break the bond with Elizabeth. I will not break the bond,” I say to them both. The Ki
Elizabeth POV “Do you know any witches, Carter?” I murmur as I stare at my brother. He laughs out loud, “What?” not clear where I am going. I explain to him what has happened so far, and he looks at me surprised. “Your father has not been able to get someone here yet?” he questions. I nod, “Odd right?” I ask. “Very,” he replies before adding, “Give me a few minutes and I will make a call,” he says as he stands to make that call. I continue to look at my brother and I realize I can see his eyelids moving. As if he is watching a movie. “I wish you would visit me again. I need your advice,” I say to him as I watch his movements. Carter finishes his call but before he can tell me anything the door to Eric’s room opens and my father walks in with my mother close on his heels. “I owe you both an apology,” my father starts to say before I cut him off. “Your words mean very little to me at this point,” I say to him moving closer to Carter. Carter
Elizabeth POV After our walk we head inside to get an early supper. We are expecting the witch the Council is sending in a couple of hours. Her name is Miranda. The Witch would be accompanied by her mate. I could appreciate why. It is risky coming into unknown territory particularly when spells are involved. I did not know a lot about witches, but I expected to learn a lot in the coming hours. My parents joined us for supper. It was a quiet meal. My father saying nothing and my mother offering very little to the conversation. Carter and I mostly spoke of what had been happening at the Crescent Moon Pack. He shared some funny stories that his Gamma had to deal with in our absence. And of course, we all talked about the rogue situation. “How do they not know where you are?” I ask Carter. “I took an alternate route when I left the Pack. Anyone following me was lost along the way,” he shares with us. “Well let’s hope you did not give up my
Elizabeth POV The tension as we made our way towards the hospital was becoming suffocating. As much as we were in the open, my father’s aura was impacting us. I could feel it. The only one who seemed unbothered was Miranda. She maintained her cool, while my mother looked to my father confused by his behaviour. “So, tell me about Eric,” Miranda says as we approach the hospital entrance. “He was always an inquisitive little boy. Loved everything and everyone,” my mother beams. “He is very artistic,” my mother adds. I hear my father scoff. When I look at him, he looks away from me not wanting to be heard. “He sounds like a lovely young man,” Miranda says as we come to the doors of the hospital. “Hmmm,” Miranda says as she approaches the doors. “It seems there is already some spell casting at the doors of the hospital. That is peculiar,” she murmurs as she moves closer like she is examining something. She reaches out to touch some
Elizabeth POV I watch as my father’s conflicted emotions fight to come through. He knows too many are watching and Miranda’s mate is a force to be reckoned with. Not that my father was without power, but with Miranda’s powers as well it would be difficult to fight them both. He stands taller, “Of course I want to know what is affecting my son. What a ridiculous question,” he replies trying to belittle Miranda. She is unbothered by his comment and moves back into the room. “We are going to remove the spell tonight,” she says as she moves to stand in front of Eric. “Tonight?” my father questions, “Why tonight?” he adds. “I believe evil is involved in this situation. Someone does not want Eric to wake … ever,” she says shocking everyone. “Why?” I ask confused. “That is a question for the person responsible to answer,” Miranda replies saddened by the situation. “For now, I will need space. You can wait in the hall, or you can go back to your r
Miranda POV I feel myself move from my body and linger over Eric’s still form. I stare down looking for the starting point of the binding spell. It takes a lot of time not only to find the beginning but then to unravel without setting off anything made to deter me from being successful. All witches have fail safes within their spells to prevent others from breaking their spell. In this case I have been breaking spells since I was very young. Too young. I had been working with the Witches Council since my pre-teens. I had been, and still am, the youngest to have been recruited to work for the Council. I chuckle, I was not recruited – it was demanded of me by my mother who works with the Council to this day. She saw my talent and would not allow me to spend my youth having fun. I was working and missing out on a childhood. Regardless, it made me who I am today. Which is powerful. I continue to scrutinize the web in front of me. I finally
Miranda POV I started working on breaking the spell two hours ago. I can feel Eric trying to help but in his current state he cannot move so he can’t see what I see. One wrong move and we would both be dead. It is painstakingly slow work. I have already taken multiple breaks using Rick to help me gain enough energy to continue on. This time I fall from Eric’s body and simply fall into Rick’s arms. “You need to take a break,” Rick murmurs as he holds onto me tightly. I nod, unable to respond. “I will see if we can get a cot brought in here. We do not have to leave Eric alone. You simply need to sleep,” he observes as he sets me down in the chair, kissing my forehead before he goes. Rick steps out of the room and I hear him call for Carter. I can hear them speaking softly but do not hear the words. I lean forward putting my hand on Eric’s. He quickly holds onto my hand, and I get the sense he is saying thank you. Part of his body has been
Alpha Carter POV I walk into the hospital room looking at the imposter. I know Elizabeth is safe with her mother just outside the door. I look at the man in the bed and simply stare at him. He stares back. “What do you want?” he growls. I look at him and smirk. “I do not want anything from you, except the truth,” I reply as I pull a chair up beside his bed. Not too close. I cannot trust the man in front of me. “You think you deserve the truth?” he snarls. “No, I think Elizabeth and the Queen deserve the truth,” I respond calmly. “Everything was fine without you in the picture. When I am full capacity, you can bet I am coming for you first,” he says to me. “I welcome the opportunity,” I reply pissing him off even more. “I want to see the Queen,” the man says. “No,” I reply. “Who do you think you are to deny me? If I do not speak with her, I will have the King killed immediately,” he says. I look at him realizing he is telling the truth
