DANIEL

He followed her.

I sensed him before I even saw him.

Lyra had barely closed the restaurant door behind her when the cold of her absence seized me. I looked up, and there, just beyond the tinted windows, I caught sight of his silhouette: Alexandre.

He didn't even try to hide.

He watches, he calculates, he waits.

I clench my jaw.

I knew he would eventually reappear, unable to accept that she was slipping away from him, even if just for one evening.

But I didn't expect him to come here, not like this. Not with that cold rage in his eyes.

When Lyra returns to sit down, her face has changed.

She tries to regain her composure, to offer me a smile. But her eyes are misty, her hand trembles, and I sense the shiver that her very name leaves within her.

It's too much.

— Daniel? she whispers, when she sees me get up.

I look at her for a second. And in my gaze, she understands.

I'm not doing this for myself. I'm doing this for her. Because she deserves a night of peace. A night where she i

  • Remember me naked   Chapter 64 — Where We Fight to Stay Ourselves

AlexandreI see her face again, the moment she saw us, Daniel and me, about to get into a fight.I especially see my own face. And I am ashamed. Not of what I did. But of what I let show, my possessiveness, my jealousy.Primitive instincts, unworthy of me, unworthy of the name I bear.I leave the bathroom. The suite is empty. Cassandre is gone. Her phone is no longer here, nor her bag or her heels. She didn't slam the door for nothing. She went to act.And I know her well enough to know she won't settle for silence.I quickly get dressed, dark suit, white shirt, loose tie.Not to save face. To feel human again. To feel like myself. But even my reflection in the mirror no longer obeys me.I pick up my phone. Thirty-two missed calls.Twelve from Adrien Béraud the journalist, four from my father. Two from the group's communication director. And one from Lyra. I stop. Her name burns me. Her voice that I can almost hear. Her fear, perhaps, through the silence of the voicemail she didn't le

  • Remember me naked   Chapter 63 — Where the Masks Burn

CassandreThe shrill ringing of my phone pulls me from sleep like a slap. It’s still dark in the room, but the phone screen radiates like a nuclear alarm.I grunt, pull the blanket over my eyes, then, annoyed, sit up halfway to grab the phone.A flurry of notifications.Missed calls.Mentions.Group messages.Links. Screenshots. And that headline at the top of the homepage, framed in red like a terrorist alert:“ALEXANDRE LACROIX AND DANIEL ROZOV: A LOVERS' CLASH IN FRONT OF A PRIVATE RESTAURANT”“THE PERSONAL ASSISTANT WHO SHAKES BOTH DYNASTIES”I remain frozen. The words hit me one by one.I click. The video starts.Grainy, shaky frame, but the essence is there. The heart that explodes.Daniel and Alexandre, face to face.Quick gestures, lethal looks, and she! She! She!This girl, this… this silhouette I barely recognize, but who now occupies all the screens.Lyra, as venomous as a snake. The shadow that slipped between us, so quietly that no radar beeped. But who is now everywhere.

LyraThe morning crushes me before I even put a foot out of bed.The phone vibrates incessantly on my nightstand, like a frantic heart unable to find a normal rhythm.I reach out, numb, my eyes still glued shut by fatigue, and unlock it.Notifications pour down.Messages, missed calls, tags, press alerts. And that headline, in capital letters, icy, brutal: ALTERCATION BETWEEN TWO POWERHOUSES, ALEXANDRE DELCOURT AND DANIEL RENZI ON THE BRINK OF CONFRONTATION OVER A WOMAN?“The assistant at the center of all tensions.”I freeze. My breath catches.I click. A video appears.Filmed on a phone, poorly framed, but impossible to deny what it shows:Daniel facing Alexandre, outside the restaurant.Words exchanged, sharp, hurtful.Alexandre’s dark gaze, taut like a blade.Daniel, calm but firm, confronting him.And me, briefly visible in the frame, already being pointed out as the reason.I sit up, heart racing. The comments are worse. “The girl is playing both sides, she’s not stupid.”“Ale

LyraThe night has inky reflections as I exit the restaurant.Daniel walks me to the sidewalk, his gaze locked onto mine with an intensity that almost forces me to look away. He doesn't attempt to kiss me. Not tonight.Just a tender, yet determined smile.— We'll see each other in two days, okay?— Okay, I reply in a whisper.I watch him walk away, his silhouette merging into the car waiting for him.And I stay there for one more second, amidst the muffled honks, the laughter escaping from a terrace, the streetlights bleeding onto the pavement. Then I turn on my heels. The drive home is silent. Not because I have nothing to say, but because I don't know where to start.I still feel precariously balanced between two worlds. Two men, two truths. When I arrive home, the living room light is on.Lucas is slumped on the couch, a bowl of cereal in hand. He looks up and scrutinizes me with a look that says a lot.— You wore your "look at me" dress, so… it was a date, right?I raise an eyebro

ALEXANDREI pace back and forth in the living room. The light from the streetlamps barely filters through the thick curtains. Lucas is gone. He told me she was "out to dinner," as if it were trivial, as if it were normal for her to be elsewhere while I’m dying to see her.I waited all day. Like a fool. What was I thinking, exactly? That things would magically fix themselves? That her silence would fade into mine?I grab my phone, the screen lights up.I type quickly.I know I shouldn’t, I know it.But I do it anyway.I locate her phone. The dot appears.A restaurant, downtown.I feel a heat rising in my chest. A heat that is anything but healthy. It’s jealousy. Fear, too. She’s over there. With him.I don’t think. I grab my keys and slam the door. The journey is a void. A long corridor of tension that twists my insides. And when I finally arrive in front of the restaurant, I see her.Lyra.Sitting across from him. That damn guy.She smiles. Not much. Just a slight curve at the corner
