I didn’t have to turn around to find Kian because his muscular arms wrapped around me and pulled me against his chest. We stayed like that, basking in the peaceful moment, just soaking up the silence.

A drop of moisture streaked down my face, and for a second, I thought it was Kian’s tears. Water droplets fell from the sky, and I glanced up and saw the rain cloud looming overhead.

“That’s my dad’s way of telling us to fuck off,” he remarked.

Kian jerked his head. “Come on, let’s go take a slow ride to the Clubhouse.”

A stream of smoke drifted above the club’s parking lot, hitting my taste buds with the delicious scent of barbecued meat. To anyone else, it looked like a redneck party, but Kian explained it was the weekly cookout. It was a members-only event.
