Morgan's POV

Reaching for the front door, Melissa bolted out of her room and hurried toward me. She stopped at the doorway, her gaze dropping briefly to the car keys in my hand.

“You just came back, and now you're leaving again?” she exclaimed, placing both hands on her waist.

“It's very important,” I told her, my hand still holding the doorknob.

“Where are you going?” she asked curiously.

I glanced at her over my shoulder. “On a small adventure back to my homeland.”

Her eyebrows lifted as she

Did she really not know that werewolves were dangerous to humans, and I wasn't going there for child's play?“Why?” I demanded. She folded her arms and leaned against the wall. “I'm bored here. Besides, things have been awful since I quarreled with Charlotte.”I chuckled under my breath. “Is that because she caught us having

Morgan's POVI returned to the laboratory later that night. The atmosphere felt cold and unsettling as I walked inside. Although the lights were on and the machines hummed quietly, I could neither see movement nor hear voices anywhere.“Dalton?” I called, narrowing my eyes as I walked deeper into the facility.I reached a curtain separating one section of the laboratory from another and pulled it aside. Something launched itself at my face immediately. Tiny claws scraped against my skin before I knocked the creature away. But it stubbornly latched onto my necktie.I grabbed at it as it dangled from my chest, snarling viciously and trying to climb back toward my face. It was the mouse Dalton had used for his experiment, except it wasn't behaving like one anymore. Its fur was matted with blood. Its tiny body had become unusually aggressive, and its mouth stretched open to reveal rows of jagged teeth. And its eyes? They were red and wild.Irritation bubbled into disgust as my black eyes

Charlotte's POVNight had already settled over Asheville by the time Michaelson pulled up in front of my compound. The street was quiet, with only a few lamps casting pale streaks of light across the pavement. I opened the door and stepped out, turning back toward the car.Michael lowered the window.“We could try checking all the hospitals in Asheville for Dwayne’s birth records. If he was born here, there might still be something we can find.”I crossed my arms against my chest, considering his suggestion.“That could work too.”Neither of us spoke afterward. The silence that stretched between us left me strangely aware of his domineering presence. It wasn't as uncomfortable as it used to be, but it wasn't exactly comfortable either. Glancing through the open window, I saw he was still watching me.I cleared my throat awkwardly.“You should take Dwayne home. He needs to sleep properly.”Michael turned his head toward the backseat. Little Dwayne was already fast asleep, his small bod

Michaelson's POVLater that afternoon, I picked Dwayne up from the pack and drove away from the estate. He sat quietly in the back seat, hugging his stuffed wolf against his chest while watching the scenery through the window. After several minutes of silence, he finally turned toward me.“Where are we going, Dad?”I glanced at him through the rearview mirror. “We’re meeting Charlotte. We’re going somewhere together.”The moment I mentioned her name, Dwayne's face grew sober. His fingers curled around the stuffed wolf, and the excitement that had briefly flickered in his eyes disappeared.“Miss Charlotte doesn’t want to be with us, so why do we keep going to her?” he asked, his question carrying more hurt than anger.I kept my eyes on the road, choosing my next words carefully. “She’ll eventually let go of the past and stay with us.”Dwayne didn't look convinced. He turned back toward the window and rested his cheek against the glass.I understood why he felt that way. Charlotte had p

Charlotte's POVIt was Saturday morning. I didn't have to rush to the newspaper office or spend hours chasing leads, making calls, or staring at documents until my eyes hurt. It was my scheduled day off, so another journalist had taken over my position for the day. For once, I could stay home without feeling guilty about it.I had spent most of the morning cleaning my apartment. By the time it clocked eight, I had already wiped down the kitchen counters, tidied the living room, and changed the sheets in my bedroom. With the apartment finally looking decent, I stepped outside to deal with the lawn. The grass had grown taller than expected, almost looking like I was nurturing a savanna grassland. It didn't look good if it stayed that way, so I had to trim it down. Dragging the lawnmower across the yard, I positioned it and pulled the starter cord.Surprisingly, the engine didn't roar to life. Still determined, I tried again, but only an empty sound came out."Come on," I muttered, givin

  • Reunited Lovers:My RejectedMate Is Now A Renowned Journalist   The First Chimera

Dalton's POVAs the sun slowly dipped below the dark horizon, I strolled down the city's bustling streets, taking in the feel of the evening. Cars moved steadily along the road, drivers impatiently blaring their horns when traffic slowed to a crawl. Across the sidewalk, several restaurants had already filled their outdoor seating areas. Groups of people sat around tables, eating dinner and enjoying lively conversations. Some laughed loudly while others leaned closer to their friends, completely absorbed in whatever story was being shared between them.I watched them for a moment before shaking my head. None of them matched the right person for my experiment. I wasn't looking for someone who had a happy life. I needed someone desperate enough to accept an offer they would normally consider insane. My eyes flicked from one person to another as I continued walking. The main target should be young, healthy, preferably alone. And, most importantly, vulnerable.I checked my wristwatch. It
