Temporary haven

Shawn took my bait.

“I’d tell you more, Serenity. Just not here.” He winked at me. “Do you know why I love to have you around? You are easy to talk to.” He shrugged, taking the last steak off his plate and into his mouth.

We conversed a little more before we were done with dinner and Shawn offered to take me on a tour of the estate.

With a furrowed brow, “Tonight?” I asked.

“Why, yes. Don't worry, there's a maximum security here. We’ll be fine.” He smiled brightly.

I wasn't that concerned about the hour but the thought of walking around with Shawn on such a cold night was daunting. I thought those kinds of things were what people do to bond.

Shawn wasn't trying to get closer to me, was he? Did he offer this to his other flings?

Hell, wait. He did say he never brought any home. Why was my case different? Did I have something to worry about? I couldn't help but be uneasy.
