Shawn turned me over, safeguarding my chin with his hand. “I think I told you before, Serenity—there are other ways that I can flatter you with. Would you like to find out?”

“You promised to let me find out.” I smiled at him, battling to keep my irritation at bay.

Shawn’s face was grim now— the kind I hated. The type where you’d not be able to read his expressions. “And I, love, keep my promises.” He flipped a part of my hair that was on my front shoulder backward. “All you have to do is just relax.” He placed his hand on my left breast. “I can tell your heart is racing. I can find your fear in a stash away in your eyes. You, Serenity, are brave. You never show it. You always look so confident.” He halted and stared at my face.

It was as though he was imprinting every detail on my face, screening and saving them in a memory disk in his head. By now, Shawn should be able to tell if it was me even if his eyes were closed by caressing my face.
