THEON

I decided to come to the agreement that Eleanor had changed, and she was no longer the person I was supposed to marry five years ago. Part of it was my fault along with her parents and whoever tried to frame her especially since I didn’t know what happened to her the last five years and there were no leads. She wouldn’t talk and I didn’t care to force her anymore.

It had happened regrettably, but I had Elle now and I didn’t want to change this reality anymore. I was fine with it.

I glanced back at her as she stood, watching the car as it rolled into the compound. She had a fearful expression on her face that rubbed me the wrong way, but I decided to shrug it off.

A notification came into my phone, and I saw it was from the Sterling hospital’s director. The DNA test I had asked him to conduct was ready and he was asking if I could come and pick it up.

“To the Sterlings Hospital” I told the driver who turned the car around at my order. I sent a quick text to Julian that I

THEON The board meeting had finally ended, and I couldn’t be more relieved. I was sure that everyone present shared the same relief that I did. Nobody wanted to work on the weekends, me especially but the new branch was scheduled to be opened soon and there was a lot of things that was yet to be done. Hours of drawn-out planning, tense arguments with the engineering team, and overseeing budget adjustments had left a dull throb pulsing at the back of my skull. Me and Julian had arrived at the site makeshift conference room straight from the airport, so I was still jetlagged, and I needed to rest soon. Julian on the other hand didn’t seem like he was tired. He had a big grin on his face as we walked out of the site to our car. “You don’t look tired” I told him as we took our seats at the back seat of the car. “I’m one push from shutting down” I grumbled, and he laughed. “You want to go for drinks when we get to the hotel? We deserve it after a long day” He suggested. We were g

ELLE I let out a startled gasp, my hand flew to my chest as I saw her and how horrible she looked. “What are you doing?” She jerked like she had been shot. I saw that her eyes were unfocused at first, but they locked me within seconds. The room was dark because there was no light, but the little table lamps illuminated the room properly enough. I caught the unmistakable glimmer of panic on her face before she masked it instantly and her expression snapped into one of pure venom as she stormed towards me. “Where did you take my child” She shrieked and before I could answer, her hands darted out and she slapped me hard across the face. The sting I felt was immediate. The pain was sharp but more than the pain, all I felt was rage. I didn’t hesitate as I raised my hand and slapped her back. Twice. Harder than she hit me. I noticed that her cheeks were already bruised but I didn’t care. She should have thought about her already bruised cheeks before attempting to put her hands on

ELLE I tucked the blanket properly under a sleeping Milo. I sat at the edge of the bed, watching him sleep. He had fallen asleep a while ago after dinner. I walked to the shelve and picked out a stuffed bunny and placed it under his arms, watching with a smile as he cuddled it closer. I smoothened the curls away from his forehead and brushed a soft kiss against his temple, careful so I wouldn’t wake him up. “Sleep well, my love” I whispered with a fond smile. “I promise I will be back soon. "Milo's lips parted in a contented sigh with a smile at the corner of his lips. My chest tightened. I didn’t want to leave him, but I had no choice. I wish I could bring him with me. I kissed him again and stared for a while before I forced myself to tiptoe out of the room and close the door gently behind me. When I went back to the living room, Sophie, Jeremy and Malone were waiting. Jeremy was glued to Malone who didn’t mind at all. The sight made me smile. “Did he wake up?” Sophie ask

ELLEIt felt so good to spend a day without worrying about anything. It was late afternoon, and the kids were playing without signs of stopping. It was a hassle to get the both of them to sit for lunch before they ran off again. Now, I was more than grateful for not listening to Sophie and getting a smaller house as I watched Eliza and Milo chase bubbles in the spacious backyard that Sophie was blowing with a theatrical flair. I smiled as they giggled happily while popping the bubbles that got close to them. I hadn’t seen either of them this happy when they were alone. Maybe I should have made sure they met earlier. I sat on a cushioned bench, an iced drink sweating beside me, my eyes drinking in the sight of them. My son and the girl I’d grown to love played together, carefree, radiant. If anyone saw them now, they’d think they were siblings. The way they trailed each other, sharing toys and shouting each other’s names, it felt as though they had known each other longer, even for

AUTHOR’S POV The shrill sound of her phone ringing woke Amanda up from her sleep at the early hours of the morning. She blinked at sound, still groggy with sleep as she reached for the loud device with a groan. She was about to cuss out whoever was disturbing her when she froze, and chill replaced the anger when she saw it was Mira calling. Amanda blinked to make sure she wasn’t dreaming but Mira’s name was still flashing boldly across the screen. She sat up quickly as she stared at the phone. Mira didn’t call in the early hours of the morning. It was barely 10 am. The thought that something could be wrong made her stomach churn as she answered the call. “Hello?” She answered with a small voice. “Get to the house. Now.” Mira practically screamed at her and then the line went dead. A cold sweat broke on her forehead as her heart began to pound frantically. She tossed the covers to the side and jumped down from the bed. Mira never shouted because she never needed to. All s
