Larissa's POV

Thankfully, the bathroom was empty, quiet, and cool. I had spent longer than necessary washing my hands, taking slow breaths as I stared at my reflection. My makeup was still intact, my hair was frizzy, and my dress wasn’t stained with any of the things I had eaten tonight.

All in all, it had been a surprisingly good night. Although I still wasn’t entirely sure how to feel about Londyn being there, the night had turned out better than I had expected.

The hallway back to the dining room was long and lined with glass display cases of trophies, plaques and historical photos. Londyn had mentioned something about playing tennis here sometimes. I fought the urge to look too thoroughly at any of the names. I didn’t want to know just how long and how often she was here. I didn’t know what I would do with that information.

My heels tapped softly against the marble floors as I made my way back.

That’s when I saw him.

Brayden was standing by one of the tall arched windows just bef

Brayden's POV I wasn’t supposed to be rescued. That wasn’t my thing.I wasn’t supposed to enjoy being rescued either. That also wasn’t my thing. However…Larissa had come through for me. Post break-up, I had avoided Camilla like she was a goddamn plague because, honestly, that was what she was. What kind of person took confidential information and put it on blast for the whole world to read just for a few clicks and likes?Camilla didn’t understand – or maybe it was that she just didn’t care – about the concept of privacy. And every conversation with her was like a mine field, you never knew what she’d use against you or what would end up in the tabloids once the conversation was over. She used to be a psychology major before she got bored with that and declared that he true calling was journalism. For someone like Camilla, that was a bad combination because it meant she knew how to get into people’s heads and then pull out what was in there for the entire world to see.And the worst

Larissa's POV Still reeling from the secrets Shauna had shared, I wasn’t looking where I was going. My heel caught on something, my foot slipped slightly and I bumped into someone.“Oh my God, I am so sorry.” I said, already reaching out in apology. The woman I had bumped into turned around. And the world paused.Because it wasn’t just some country club stranger. It was Londyn. My sister.I froze. She froze. The space around us seemed to blur into nothingness.“Londyn?” I asked, my voice small. Her mouth parted slightly, like she couldn’t believe it either. She didn’t say anything at first, just stared. Her perfectly done makeup didn’t flinch, but her drip on her clutch tightened. “Larissa.”This was the first time we’d seen each other since the Patterson Financial quarterly dinner. The same night, she made Brayden and me kiss to ‘prove’ our marriage wasn’t a sham. And before that, there was the dinner at my parents’ where she had debuted the man that was supposed to be my fiancé as

Larissa's POV Gwen was back in town. I knew this because I’d overheard Brayden’s conversation with her.On one hand, I was relieved. Gwen had been nice to me and was one of the few people who despite the murder accusation hanging over my head, hadn’t treated me like death. But I couldn’t shake the uncomfortable thought of her and Brayden. They had history. The women at brunch had certainly made it sound like they went way back and the picture in Tiffany’s house had proved that they had. I was still trying to convince myself that I was okay with the idea of her and Brayden having history. It wasn’t working. So, yeah. I was glad not to have to navigate that potential minefield just yet.Besides, it wasn’t as if I needed Gwen with me every step of the way. I wasn’t completely helpless in the fashion department.I stepped out of the car in a silk forest green gown that I had found at the back of my closet.Earlier, when I had stepped into the living room. Brayden had looked me over and s

  • Revenge Wears A Ring   Chapter 54

Larissa's POV She liked it.She liked my work.It shouldn’t have mattered. But it did. Maybe too much.A couple of days had passed since Larissa had mentioned the painting.Since she had sat across from me, eyes wide and incredulous, asking if I’d really painted the ballerinas in her room and the field of flowers at Tiffany’s. Since she had asked to see my sketch pad, and I had said no, like a startled deer in headlights. I had said it with a sharp, final tone that made it seem like she had asked to crack my ribcage open and read the very contents of my innards to the entire world.Sure, some of what I said that day had been true. Sketches were raw and emotional, and most times, one of the most vulnerable parts of a person laid bare. But that wasn’t my entire reason for declining her access to my sketches. She had no idea that nearly every page of my most recent sketch pad held some version of her.Her profile. Her hands. Her hair tied up and loose. Her scowl when she was annoyed abo

  • Revenge Wears A Ring   Chapter 53

Larissa's POV The ride home was quiet. Not awkwardly so, just… still. The kind of still that seeps into your thoughts and expands until that’s all that’s in your head.I sat in the backseat of the sleek black car that Tiffany’s driver had brought me in, the tinted windows casting the passing streets in a soft gray haze. Outside, the world glided by in the afternoon’s warm sun.I stared out the window, one hand resting loosely on my lap, the other fidgeting with my wedding ring.I kept thinking about the painting. That field of wildflowers was engulfed in flames.Brayden had made that. Painted it with his own hands. And it didn’t look like the efforts of a teenage hobbyist dabbling with watercolors and canvas. No, that painting had weight, depth, and emotion. A soul, maybe. It meant something. Maybe not to everyone, but definitely to him.But yet, I had never heard him mention painting. Not once. And I was supposed to be his wife. Not his real wife sure, but I had been living with him
