NARRATIVE POV

“No, the banner is not centered!” Tia growled in frustration as the omegas scurried to make the changes that she was demanding.

Everything had to be perfect. After all, you only turn eighteen once.

It wasn’t lost on Tia that she was handling all the decorations and preparations for the event on her own. Her mother and father were completely hands-off. They gave her their black card and told her to decorate and buy whatever she needed for the pack-wide celebration.

Tia Elise Henry, was the youngest of three pups to Alpha Markus and Luna Ava Henry of the Cherry Ridge Pack. A pack with roughly just over two hundred pack members. They were a peaceful pack. They dealt a lot in livestock and farming. The Cherry Ridge pack has been a neutral, non-aggressive pack for nearly five generations, and the pack held faith that Alpha Markus instilled the same values in his son and future heir, Simon.

At the age of twenty-one, Simon was now about to step into the role as Alpha over Cherry Ridge, one month after his sister, Tia’s, eighteenth birthday. With their middle pup, Hilary, mated and moved away to her Beta mate, Beta Miles Roberts of the Fisher Brooks Pack and Tia about to be arranged to her betrothed, Allan Price, the cousin of Alpha Rollings of the Ravens' Peak Pack, Markus and Ava wish to step down and retire somewhere tropical.

It wasn’t that Alpha Markus and Luna Ava didn’t love their youngest daughter; they were simply too busy to give her proper time and affection. Tia was unplanned, and before her conception, the Alpha pair were content with one son and one daughter. The arrival of Tia was a surprise to them both. Having spent their time and affection lavishing Simon and Hilary, all that was left from the parental pair was to lavish Tia with expensive trinkets and a lack of discipline and structure. Tia was taught that love for her could only be shown through hollow gifts, meant to convey the image of wealth.

There wasn’t a thing in the world that Tia couldn’t buy, other than genuine affection from others. Being the Alpha heir, Simon absorbed their father's attention and praise. Simon was perfectly groomed to become the Alpha their father raised him to be: a cookie-cutter image and leadership of Alpha Markus. Hilary was always the perfect daughter. She had their mother's hair, facial features and elegant mannerisms when entertaining guests. Luna Ava’s sole focus was on preening Hilary for status and displaying the quality and standard of elegance and poise that the Cherry Ridge Pack instills.

At the young age of nine, while Tia was playing alone in the garden, one of the house staff stole her away. No one had noticed that Tia was missing for hours, and by then, the omega had managed to remove Tia entirely from the pack grounds unnoticed by patrol. It wasn’t until they stepped past the borderline that the Alpha pair felt Tia’s absence, but even then, the pack delayed searching for her. They presumed she was wandering and would return soon enough. For days, Tia was missing before her absence was finally appropriately noticed.

Cherry Ridge pack reported the stolen pup to the council the following week, as they could not locate her anywhere in the pack area. It was then decided that Tia was officially missing from the territory and not throwing a childish tantrum. With warriors from both Cherry Ridge and the council searching, the country was aware of a potential Alpha pup trafficking ring popping up in the area. Stealing an Alpha pup was a crime punishable by death. Alpha pups, especially females, are sold on the market for a high price.

The country and neighbouring packs began to scrutinize the Cherry Ridge pack for leaving one of their Alpha pups unguarded and for their inability to protect one of their own—speculation about the convenience that the Alpha pair overlooked was circulating, slowly tarnishing the pack's reputation. Luna's from other packs began to question Luna Ava Henry about how she had not noticed her youngest daughter was missing for over a week before it was reported.

“How does no one notice an Alpha pup missing for days?” The rumour mill steamrolled ahead, and rumours of the Alpha pair trying to sell off their pups began forming. As a blessed pack, the Cherry Ridge pack needed to address these concerns swiftly.

Losing their reputation and financial backing from the trade business, Alpha Markus calls upon the Royal Court to assist in locating their missing daughter. The sooner they find Tia, the sooner they can restore their reputation and rank status. It had nothing to do with missing their lost pup; it was simply their tarnished image.

The weeks trudged on, and finally, a lead turned up. They found the Omega who stole and sold Tia. She was a house staff member of the family, and it soon came out that she was the jilted mistress of Alpha Markus.

The rumours continued to spread, but now they included Luna Ava threatening to take everything in the divorce, as the Cherry Ridge pack belonged to Luna Ava and her family. If Alpha Markus was discovered to have affairs, and they divorced, he would lose it all. He abruptly ended his affair, and they fired the omega to ensure that there were no more temptations. In the heat of rage, the omega stole the young pup, knowing no one would take notice.

TIA POVWe had only been walking for a few hours when something in the distance stopped us.“Help!” a small voice called out. It sounded close, and Meadow was just as eager to find the distressed person as I was.It is a child. Hurry. Meadow's sense of urgency pushed my feet harder as I ran toward taunting laughter and cries for help. There they were. I could see them from the treeline that I hid in.There were two young boys, no more than twelve, maybe thirteen. They were pushing a smaller girl between them back and forth, their laughter and open mockery of the little girl's fear and tears ate at me. It reminded me of when Hilary and Simon would bully and taunt me for crying, pleading with them to stop bullying me.“Crybaby!” One of those boys whined mockingly. “All you ever do is cry. Mum and Dad complain about the headaches you give them with all your tears and whining.”“Yeah, they can’t stand you when you cry. Big baby!” the other boy adds to the taunts.Their hateful words only

TIA POVThe sounds of the birds' and woodland creatures' morning calls softly awoke me from my sleep. The smile that stretched across my face was something no one who knew me had ever seen. These smiles were always reserved for my oasis and my wolf, Meadow. To everyone else, I was incapable of joy and smiles. I was the notorious Ice Queen of Cherry Ridge, after all.I breathed in deeply as I stretched my arms out wide. Fresh morning dew only enhanced the purity of this moment. This was what I wanted. A small cabin, just Meadow and me, surrounded by our charming woodland creatures.Sounds like a Disney movie. Meadow yawned as she shook her fur coat with a stretch as grand as mine.“Wouldn’t that be great?” I asked whimsically. “Think about it, we already live a Disney movie life. The unwanted, unloved daughter of beloved rulers, no one knows the truth behind the masks worn. A villain takes hold, and the forgotten princess must rise above it all and save the kingdom!” I took a hero's st

NARRATIVE POVConstance held her son's hand tightly in between her palms. Her eyes rarely left Mile’s face. His features were soft and innocent in his comatose state. It reminded her of when he was just a boy, a willful young pup, but the calm balance of his twin brother, Tyson. She was reminded of when the twins decided they wanted to be monkeys for the afternoon, swinging from tree to tree.Tyson had a way of instigating adventure, as he called it. Miles never turned his twin away, despite how radical Tyson's ideas of adventure may be.One slip, and Miles fell fifteen feet from the tree after jumping from one tree to another to latch onto the same branch Tyson had just managed to latch onto. One jump, a concussion and one broken collarbone later.Miles had bumped his head on an unearthed tree root and was unconscious for hours. It felt like days when Constance sat in a similar room to the one she sat in now. Just the same, she was clenching her youngest son's hand and praying that t

NARRATIVE POVCouncilman Aven was disturbed by the report he received from his colleagues out in the field. Tums and Burns were expected to perform the send-off ceremony after assessing the degree of loss and whether there were any survivors. What they hadn’t expected was for someone to have already done it. Tums confirmed that Riggs detected four bodies within the Alpha family ashes, and that a female was the one performing the last rites for the pack. This would make sense. Hilary Henry was always a strong leader; Aven had witnessed it on several occasions when she would visit the Council offices with her father, Alpha Markus. She was kind, charismatic, and disciplined. She was an incredible negotiator, showing strong signs of her capabilities and leadership traits. It was no wonder that Hilary would have been mate-matched with one of the strong Alpha twins, Beta Miles Roberts of the Fisher Brooks pack. When they reached out to the Fisher Brooks pack, the council learned that Beta M

NARRATIVE POVAfter stating his assessment, Riggs moved on to other rooms of the house.“Whose room, Tums?” Burns asked again, noting his colleague lingering around the desk in the room. Tums held up some paperwork, and Tia Henry's signature was on them.“It is Tia’s room. Their youngest daughter stayed here, but if that blood doesn’t belong to her, and she is the one performing the last rites, where is she?”“How could this be? Riggs must be mistaken. We have been informed that the youngest daughter of Alpha Henry is wolfless. She could not have survived an attack like this, nor would she have had the strength to do what she had done alone. You've met the girl; she is cold and uncaring of others. There is no way she was the one to do those last rites; she wouldn't have cared to do the work.” Burns challenged the theory, equally confused by Riggs' findings.“Riggs is the best for a reason, Burns. He has never made a mistake in his entire career.” Tums warned him. Riggs didn’t take kin

NARRATIVE POVBy the time the Council's ordered warriors and investigators arrived at the Cherry Ridge pack, Tia had been gone for a day and a half.As soon as the SUV stopped in front of the pack house of Cherry Ridge, Councilman Tums and Burns stepped out to take in the surroundings. There was evidence of ash piled in front of the pack house. Councilman Burns crouched down and inspected the ash, running his fingers through it and lifting his hand to examine the fragments.“Bodies. Someone performed the last rites? This is the ceremony send-off ash.” Burns announced. He looked over his shoulder and met Councilman Tums' curious stare.“Awaiting orders, Sir.” Commander Skully stood tall before the lead investigator, Councilman Burns, nodded to Tums to give the orders as he turned his attention back to the ashes before him.Who would perform the last rites on a pack they attacked silently in the night?Councilman Tums took control of the warriors' directions.“I want this territory insp
