"Drystan is finally going to have an heir," My mother-in-law, Vivian, said.
"What... what did you just say?" I whispered.
I've been married to my husband Drystan for three years, but we still have no children. I had prayed for a child, for giving him an heir. I had gone to the top doctors in the territory, submitting myself to endless blood tests, painful examinations, and uncomfortable scans.
The results had always come back crystal clear: I was completely healthy and perfectly capable of bearing children.
It was Drystan whose medical reports showed a dangerously low sperm count, making it almost impossible for him to father a child naturally, but I had kept his secret safe, protecting his pride as an Alpha so how?
Her voice pulled me back to the present.
"You heard me, Amelia," Vivian replied coldly.
"Tina, Drystan’s personal assistant, is pregnant. She is carrying my son's baby. Drystan has been seeing her for six months now, and the pregnancy was confirmed yesterday."
A sudden wave of nausea hit me so hard I had to grip the edge of the table to keep from falling out of my chair. The room spun around me.
Tina? His quiet, smiling assistant who always brought him coffee and adjusted his ties? I did notice they were a little bit too close, but Drystan swore to me that he would never touch his PA. Never. What a joke.
"No," I stammered, "That’s impossible. Drystan, you.. you cheated on me with your PA? For SIX MONTHS?"
I tried to fight the truth.
Drystan finally shifted in his chair. He cleared his throat and looked at me, but his eyes completely birthed guilt, love and concern. "I'm an Alpha, Amelia. I need an heir. And we both know you can not give me one. "
"How?" My voice broke into a high, scream as I stood up, knocking my chair backward onto the floor. "How can she be pregnant when the doctor clearly said you were infertile? We both know your sperm count was too low! You couldn't have children!"
Vivian let out a harsh, bitter laugh. "Oh, please, Amelia! Stop lying to cover up your own uselessness! It is obvious you tampered with those medical papers to hide the fact that you are the one who is broken. Tina got pregnant easily, which proves my son is a strong, fertile Alpha. You were just making excuses because your body cannot produce an heir for this pack."
The cruelty of her words felt like a physical blow to my chest. Tears filled my eyes, hot and blinding. I looked at Drystan, begging him with my eyes to defend me, to tell his mother the truth. But he just sat there, staring down at his coffee cup, completely silent and in guilt.
"So here is how it is going to be," Vivian continued, her voice turning hard as steel. "We have decided as a family that Tina will move into this house today. You will take care of her during her pregnancy. When the baby is born, you will raise it as your own child. If you accept Tina, treat her well, and stay quiet, Drystan will allow you to stay as his Luna. He will not divorce you."
I stared at them in absolute horror. "You want me to live with his mistress? You want me to serve the woman he cheated on me with, and then pretend her baby is mine?"
"I-I think it's best you don't argue with my mother, Amelia," Drystan said without looking me in the eye, speaking up at last. "Be reasonable. I need an heir for my pack. It's hard, but you have to just accept it, and you still get to keep your title and your status."
"You cheater!" I screamed, tears streaming down my hot face. "You betrayed me! You lied to me, you let your family blame me for our problems, and now you expect me to sit here and smile while you play house with your mistress? I won't do it! I won't stay here!"
"But it's a good deal. I don't know why you're fighting it.”Drystan shrugged.
I turned around and ran out of the dining room as fast as my feet could carry me. I slammed the front door behind me, rushed to my car, and threw myself into the driver’s seat. My hands were shaking so violently that I could barely turn the key in the ignition. Locked inside the quiet, safe space of my car, I let out a loud, painful sob.
With trembling fingers, I dialed my mother’s phone number. She answered on the second ring.
"Amelia, sweetie? Is everything okay?"
"Mom... Mom, it’s horrible," I choked out, my chest heaving as I cried. "Drystan cheated on me! He’s been having an affair with his assistant for six months, and she’s pregnant! He and his mother blame me, and they want her to move into our house! Mom, I can't take this. I want a divorce!"
There was a long, heavy silence on the line. Then, my mother’s voice came through, but it wasn't comforting. It was cold, stern, and completely firm.
"Amelia, calm down right now and stop crying," my mother said harshly. "You are not getting a divorce."
I froze, wiping a warm tear from my cheek. "What? Mom, didn't you hear me? He cheated on me!"
"I heard you perfectly fine," she replied coldly. "Do you have any idea what position your father’s business is in right now? We depend entirely on financial support from Drystan’s company. If you divorce him, his pack will pull all their funding, and our family will be completely ruined! We will lose everything!"
"So you want me to stay with a man who betrayed me just for money?" I screamed into the phone.
"Every man strays eventually, Amelia," my mother said, her voice completely flat. "No man is faithful forever. You are a grown woman now, and you need to learn to tolerate these things for the greater good of your family. Swallow your foolish pride and stay with your husband."
"I hate you," I whispered, my voice trembling with pure disbelief. "I hate all of you."
I slammed the end-call button and threw my phone onto the passenger seat. I buried my face in my hands, sobbing until my throat was raw and my chest hurt. I was completely alone. My husband was a liar, his family was cruel, and my own parents were willing to sell my happiness for money.
That night, I didn't go back into the pack house. Instead, I drove straight to the city. I went into an expensive boutique, bought the shortest, most revealing black dress I could find, and put on deep red lipstick that made me look like a completely different person. I didn't look like a sweet, obedient Luna anymore. I looked like a woman who had nothing left to lose.
I walked into the loudest, darkest nightclub in the city center. Heavy bass echoed through the floorboards, throbbing against my chest. Vibrant colored lights flashed wildly through the hazy, smoke-filled air, masking the faces of the dancing crowd. People were laughing, drinking, and moving together, completely free from the heavy rules of the werewolf world.
I walked past the crowded dance floor, heading straight toward the VIP lounge area in the back. My heart was pounding like a war drum against my ribs, but I forced my chin up and kept moving.
That was when I saw him.
Sitting alone in a dimly lit velvet booth in the furthest corner of the club was a man. He looked to be in his early forties, with broad, powerful shoulders that filled out a dark suit, sharp facial features, and thick dark hair lightly dusted with silver at the temples.
I took a deep, shaky breath, letting the alcohol and my burning anger push me forward. I didn't care who he was. I just needed to forget Drystan. I needed to prove to myself that I was still desired, that I was alive, and that my life belonged to me.
I smoothed down my tight dress, walked slowly up to his table, and looked directly into his deep, piercing eyes.
"Hi," I said, my voice surprisingly steady as I tilted my head. "Can you buy me a drink?”
Amelia’s POVMy heart was beating so fast against my ribs that I was genuinely scared it was going to burst right out of my chest. My eyes stayed glued to the man standing in front of me. Alpha Zephyr. The powerful, terrifying Alpha King that every pack in the continent feared. "Alpha Zephyr, please allow me to introduce her," Drystan said, waving his hand toward me in a casual, careless way. "This is my wife, Luna Amelia. Amelia, stop standing there like a statue and greet the Alpha King properly!"I forced my mouth to open, but my throat was so dry it felt like I was swallowing hot sand. I took a quick, shaky breath, keeping my eyes lowered toward the shiny floorboards. I was so terrified that if I looked directly into Zephyr's deep eyes, my husband and the whole pack would instantly figure out my dirty secret."It is... it is a great honor to meet you, your Highness," I managed to whisper, my voice barely louder than a tiny breath of wind.I waited for Zephyr to smirk, to laugh o
Zephyr’s POVI stood near the massive entrance doors, letting my gaze sweep over the rows of dressed-up guests. They immediately bowed their heads in fear and respect, stepping backward to clear a wide path for me. Beside me, Drystan, a weak Alpha from a small pack, was practically groveling on the floor. He kept bowing his head over and over, his voice trembling as he spoke to me."Alpha Zephyr..." Drystan said, holding his hands together nervously as if he were praying to a god. "What an absolute honor it is to have you at our banquet! We never expected a king like you to grace our humble territory with your presence. Please, come in! Anything you need tonight, my pack will gladly provide for you."I did not listen to a single word coming out of his pathetic mouth. His voice was just useless noise in the background. My entire body went completely still, freezing in place like a solid block of ice. My eyes locked onto a young woman standing just a few feet behind him.She was wear
Amelia's POVThe grand ballroom was filled with bright crystal chandeliers that poured soft light down on the fancy crowd. Classical music played softly in the background, but the smooth violin notes did not calm the nervous fluttering in my chest.Hundreds of rich pack members, high-ranking warriors, and noble ladies were walking around in elegant clothes, laughing and sipping expensive champagne. I stood near the entrance, smoothing down the edges of my plain dress. My hands were freezing, and my heart was hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird. I was only here tonight because my parents had practically begged me to go. They needed me to pretend that everything was fine so Drystan’s pack wouldn't cut off the money keeping my family’s business alive.I raised my eyes, scanning the crowded room, and that was when my heart dropped into my stomach.Standing right near the central chocolate fountain was my husband, Alpha Drystan. But he wasn't standing alone. His hand was rest
Amelia’s POV“Why me, beautiful?”His voice was slow and deep, like he already knew the answer and just wanted to hear me say it out loud. I sat across from him in that dark booth and tried to look brave, even though my hands were still shaking in my lap. “Because you are the most handsome man here,” I said.He laughed once, low in his chest. It was not a sweet laugh. It sounded like he had heard that line a hundred times and still found it funny.“I can tell you are looking for someone to keep you company,” he said. “But I am afraid I am not someone you should get involved with. You should find a boy your own age.”I reached across the table and took the glass from his hand. The glass was still warm from his fingers. I drank all of it in one gulp. The liquor burned down my throat and made my eyes water, but I did not look away from him.“No,” I said. “I want you. I… I can pay you.”He raised one eyebrow. “Interesting. I have always been the one paying women. This is the first time
