Chapter Eighteen

 

Edwards asked Bates if he could come into work early that afternoon, Bates agreed.

Relieved, he passed the crazy convicts down the hallway without circumstances, slipped into the surveillance room. He locked the door, exhausted, plopping into the chair. He faced the monitors overlooking the lobby. Then grabbed a can of Coke out of the mini cooler he kept under the table.

 The doorknob twisted.

Edwards froze with the can to his lips. He glanced at the monitor. The lobby and upstairs floors looked empty. He turned toward the door. The steel knob rattled as someone tried to get in. Thoughts of an uninvited guest into the small, gloomy room, Edwards full alert. He searched the room for a weapon. A blast struck the opposite side!

Someone kicked the door inward. In self-defence, Edwards stepped away. A black shadow tackled him! The figure ducked his head into Edward’s abdomen bumping him against the desk. He struck Edwards in the face. His head shifted from left to right.&nb
