LOGINBeep... Beep... Beep...
I woke to the sound of beeping. My body felt so sore and heavy. I struggled just opening my eyes, and as they adjusted to the lighting, I found myself in what seemed to be a hospital room.
“W-What…?” I weakly breathed out.
“You’re awake!”
My eyes widened when I heard that voice. Familiar, but in a good way. I turned to the source, and saw a face I never thought I would see again, looking down at me in relief in her blue eyes.
“Caitlyn? Is that you?” I asked.
Caitlyn looked at me in sheer joy and caught me in a hug. “Of course, it’s me, Suzie! I was just passing by when they brought you to the hospital, but what happened?! Where have you been these past four years?!”
Feeling her warmth envelope my body, hearing my name called from a tone that is in no way hostile or crude, sensing a concern different from that provided by Justin- from someone who saw me as a friend… Tears formed in my eyes as all those sink in, and I weakly returned the hug. “Trust me. It’s not like I wanted to disappear these four years,” I told her, my voice breaking a bit.
Breaking away from the hug, Caitlyn helped me up in a sitting position. “You need to tell me what happened, Suzie. Where have you been all this time?”
My mood fell when she asked that, as memories of the past four years came rushing back to me. “If you really want to know, Cait, I was imprisoned.”
Caitlyn’s eyes widened by my words, at a loss for words. “I-I’m sorry, what? What do you mean you were imprisoned?”
At her question, I have relayed everything that happened four years ago, on the day of my birthday. How I was framed for Ashley’s poisoning, labeled as a murderer by my own son, was one-sidedly sent to prison- without a trial, no less- and even about Justin and my parents. As I spoke, Caitlyn remained silent, listening to every word. While it was a small act, to me, it meant everything. Having someone listen to me, to what occurred that day. The only other person who did that… is no longer amongst the living.
“I warned you about that guy,” Caitlyn sighed, after I finished retelling everything. “I warned you about him, but you were so happy and in love with him that… I couldn’t-”
“I know,” I interrupted, my eyes in tears as I recalled the events again. “After everything that happened, I had long since decided to live out my life, away from this pack, with Justin. Obviously I can’t do that, when he’s been abducted by that… That maniac.” I clenched my hand in a fist as I recalled how Justin was taken. How helpless I was to do anything to stop Duncan’s men.
A hand rested on my shoulder, and I looked up to see Caitlyn staring at me with a soft look in her eyes. “Hey, it’ll be okay. We can get him away. Somehow.”
That ‘somehow’ didn’t assure me one bit, but I knew Caitlyn meant well, and could only respond to the reassurance with a small smile. As I shifted myself on the bed for a better position, a stab of pain shot up on my side, prompting me to rub it and ease the pain.
“You okay there, Suzie?” Caitlyn asked, helping me ease the pain.
“Somewhat. My healing ability hasn’t been as it should’ve,” I answered.
Caitlyn looked at my- the state I was in- with a sad expression. “Would explain why the doctors needed to give you those bandages,” she said.
I nodded lightly at the statement, as a thought came to my head. “You said you were passing by as I was getting sent here. Who helped me exactly?”
Before she could give an answer, we both heard the door open and turned to it. Entering the room was a gentleman in a long, auburn leather jacket. His hair sleek, and he had a small beard that gave him much of a mature look. As he approached me with his piercing hazel eyes, I shuddered at his gaze. At the powerful aura that radiated from him.
“Someone’s awake,” he said, smiling warmly at me. “How are you feeling?”
“I-… I’m fine, thank you,” I answered, captivated by his presence.
There was something about this man I couldn’t place my tongue on. Something similar to Duncan, yet all the more powerful. As Duncan’s wife, for the better two years of my married life with him, I had met various Alphas, who all radiate strong, confident, leadership aura of various kinds. The one coming from this man, however, felt more powerful than any other.
"Suzie, this is the guy who saved your life, Alpha Pularis,” Caitlyn introduced. My eyes widened at the name, for there was only one Alpha I was most especially made aware of amongst all others.
After I made a thorough analysis of the situation of the Redwind Pack, I had proposed to them a list of ideas they could use that can help with the improvement of the pack. Granted, with what they had, I was not entirely sure if my suggestions could resolve everything, but I do hope there would be some signs of improvements for them. “Allow me to remind you, the results will not be immediate. It will take some time for improvements to truly show. Just as long as your people can afford to have some patience, that is, and not go on some rampage or anything,” I informed Mordecai. “But this will work, correct?” he asked me. Though he was filled with some level of distrust, it relieved me a bite to see him remain composed as opposed to how he was acting earlier.“So long as you follow the instructions, then yes. Of course, if you feel there hasn’t been any progress or if you still are concerned about things, you can reach out to me.”Mordecai hummed at my suggestion. “Honestly speaking,
Susan’s POVSome time had passed since the written portion of the Luna Exam. The day after that test, it was announced that the whole exam was actually canceled on Pularis’s orders. He who was going around with some of his trusted Beta werewolves to formally announce the cancellation, as well as give their apologies for having their selected representatives be brought to the Nightsky Pack for nothing.I was one of those Betas who went around for the apologies. Though, it was not because I was one of his Betas. Rather, because this whole situation involved me, I accompanied Pularis in making these visits. At first I had thought it was so I can gain some experience as a member of the Nightsky Pack. As one of their Betas. How wrong I was, when we were making a visit to one of the candidates’ home pack.“You are telling me that this is the bitch who made you cancel the Luna Exam?!” the Alpha of Redwind Pack, Mordecai, demanded, glaring at me as I stood behind Puaris.“Honey, let’s take a
???'s POV"What do you mean the Luna Exam is cancelled?!" I demanded the Beta in front of me. She who was one of the proctors of the very exam I took in hopes of being Alpha Pularis's Luna, as promised by the advisors."Exactly as I mean it. As per the Alpha's order, the Luna Exam is now cancelled," she repeated, increasing my rage."You do realize who you are talking to, correct? I am the daughter of the Moonstone Pack's Alpha! One of the most prestigious werewolf packs in the world! How could you just barge into my room and make such a lie?! It was already promised by the Alpha himself that the one who passed his test would be Luna!"Indeed, that was what was promised to me, my father, and all those other girls and their packs' Alphas. We were approached by representatives of the Nightsky Pack, whom we were already in a long-lasting relationship with. At first, we- that is to say, the Alphas- were the ones reaching out to the Nightsky Pack on the idea of having a deeper relationship
Pularis's POVWith the whole thing regarding Susan and her test now having come to passed, once she left the living room, I had the elders and advisors dismissed from my humble abode. I was very tempted to strip them all of the authority they held, considering the mess they went and made. However, dear old Grandmother had convinced me to let them off a little easy with a warning, much to those dogs' relief. That being said, though..."You realize this makes me look soft, letting those mutts off with just a warning," I told her. She who was calmly sipping her cup of tea on the sofa."'Soft' to you. To others, I would more use the word 'merciful'," she said. "Besides, if you were to be rid of the advisors and elders of their roles and authorities, it will take some time to find fitting replacements for them, wouldn't you say?""As a matter of fact, it would not. I know plenty of Betas who deserve a good promotion for a while now. And likewise, they have already selected some candidates
"Mommy! You're finally back!" Justin cried out, rushing to me as soon as I entered our room."I'm back, Justin. I hope you've been good," I said, catching him in a hug."You make it sound like that little angel is some devil reincarnate," Caitlyn teased, coming up to join us as she ruffled his hair."I am not," I denied with a small giggle.Once that meeting with Pularis and those elders was done, I practically hastily made my way to my room, where my son was. The day had been more mentally exhausting that it should be, and I wanted nothing more than to rest for the rest of the day. I did not mind if Justin wanted to play with me upon my return- in fact, I would also welcome that, if only to help me mentally recover from what I had to go through. Not just what I had to go through in that exam, but even that explanation of how I ended up there. While I understood well enough of the advisors and elders' concern about the future of their pack, like Pularis, I also would like to question
Upon returning to the mansion, as soon as I stepped into the building, I was asked to come to the living room. ‘Brought’ there, rather, by several of Pularis’s servants. Once I was there, I was met with quite the surprising sight. That being…“On behalf of these old stooges behind me, as Alpha, I deeply apologize for the misunderstanding that was caused in today’s exam, and any inconvenience that came with it.” Pularis apologizing to me. He who sat on a sofa with many elderly werewolves by him- some sitting on the sofa with him, whereas others stood by the furniture. All who bowed to me in an apologetic manner. Even Patricia was here, and she also bowed to me apologetically.“We are truly sorry,” most of them said. I was quite taken aback by the action. While I did want answers pertaining to the exam, I was not expecting this sort of welcome. Nor did I expect an earnest apology.“It’s okay,” I told them. “As much as I appreciate an apology, what I am more interested in is why did I g
