Amidst some more congratulatory messages we were receiving, Alpha Lev led me to his office. He tried to hide his heavy breathing from the pack members but I couldn't unsee that he wasn't doing very well.

He shut the door behind us after we entered his office. The last time I had been here was the day he had accused me of being an assassin sent by the elders. Their reaction today explained a lot but still left me with a lot of questions.

“Have a seat," Alpha Lev said to me in a voice that bellied exhaustion. The alarm bells that went off in my head earlier got stronger as he pushed himself to sit down in obvious exhaustion.

I was the one functioning without a regular wolf and this walk didn't affect me as much as it did to him. Something was up.

“Are you okay?" I asked him as he breathed deeply with his eyes closed.

He gave me a weak nod but I couldn't let it go so I went on to check on him. He pushed my hand away.
