I woke up to my head throbbing.

Just as I was about to get in the shower, my phone buzzed. It was a message from my father’s assistant.

“Your father is in his home office. He expects you at 9:00 AM sharp.”

My stomach twisted. Usually, I would be shaking with nerves, but today I just felt tired. I dressed in a clean sweater and jeans.

When I reached the building, my mother was waiting in the lobby. When she saw me, her face lit up, and she rushed over to wrap me in a hug.

"Oh, Liam!" she whi

When the alarm went off at 4:00 PM, we both groaned. Jax looked better, but his eyes were still a little puffy."You ready?" I asked, sitting on the edge of the bed."No," Jax said. He ran a hand through his messy hair. "I feel like everyone is going to be staring at us. Those jokes from this morning ... they’re going to keep going, aren't they?""Maybe," I said. "But we just have to act like they don't bother us. If we get angry or shy, it looks like we have something to hide. Just laugh it off. Pretend you’re still a bit sick if you have to."Jax nodded. He stood up and stretched. "I’ll head to my place now. I checked the peephole. It was clear. I opened the door a few inches and squeezed his hand one last time. "See you at the rink.""See you, Liam," he whispered, and then he was gone. When I walked into the locker room an hour later, the noise was already at a high level. Guys were shouting across the room, throwing tape at each other, and complaining about the late hour.I saw Sw

It was at exactly 6:00 AM, the bubble burst.A loud, aggressive knock thundered against the door. Bang! Bang! Bang!Jax bolted upright, his eyes wide with panic. I felt my heart drop into my stomach. My first thought was the RA. My second thought was my father."Liam! Open up! We know you’re in there!"I recognized the voice immediately. It was Swiss."Don't move," I whispered to Jax. He looked like he wanted to crawl under the bed. He was wearing my clothes, his hair was a mess, and the room was covered in food wrappers.I stood up, smoothed out my shirt, and tried to find my voice. I walked to the door and looked through the peephole. It wasn't just Swiss. I could see Toby, Mark, and two other guys from the defensive line. They were all crowded in the hallway, looking impatient.I couldn't just leave them there. If I didn't open the door, they’d think something was wrong because the door wasn’t locked from the outside or call the RA. I turned back to Jax and gestured for him to get

The morning sun crept through the thin gap in the curtains, hitting my eyes. I blinked, feeling a weight on my chest that I wasn't used to. Then I felt the warmth. I looked down and saw Jax. He was still fast asleep, his face tucked against my shoulder. Then, Jax stirred. He let out a low groan and rubbed his eyes. As he started to wake up, I could feel his body go stiff. He realized where he was. He realized whose bed he was in.He sat up so fast he almost hit his head on the shelf above the bed. He looked at me, then at his own clothes ;the grey sweatpants I had put him in last night. His face turned bright red."Oh, no," he whispered, his voice hoarse. "Liam... I... did I?""You were pretty drunk, Jax," I said softly, sitting up beside him. "You were sitting outside my door."Jax put his face in his hands. "I remember some of it. I remember the hallway. I remember... I remember saying things. And the kiss. Oh, god. Liam, I’m so sorry. I shouldn't have come here. I shouldn't have p

The three days following the silent phone calls left me in a daze. Every time my phone buzzed, my heart skipped a beat. I stayed away from Jax as much as I could. We barely looked at each other during practice and it was killing me.By Wednesday night, the walls of my room felt like they were moving inward. Around 11:00 PM, I grabbed my hoodie and went out for a stroll. I didn't have a destination; I just needed to feel the night air on my face. I walked for an hour, circling the quiet campus. When I finally headed back to the athletic dorms, the moon was high and the grass was wet with dew. I felt a little calmer until I reached my door.A dark shape was slumped against the wood. At first, I thought it was a pile of laundry or a shadow. But as I got closer, I saw a pair of worn out sneakers and a familiar messy head of hair."Jax?" I whispered, my heart dropping. He didn't move. I hurried over and knelt beside him. The smell hit me immediately; the sharp, bitter scent of cheap whiske

Jogging has always been my escape. I thought about the anonymous letter, about my father’s bank transfers to Chloe, and about the fear in Jax’s eyes. With every mile, I tried to leave those worries behind, pushing my body until my legs felt heavy.By the time I finished my jog and headed to the arena for our unofficial morning practice, the sun was fully up. I grabbed my gear from my locker and stepped onto the ice.The rink was quiet at first, but soon, the doors opened, and Swiss wandered out, followed by a few of the other guys.Swiss was in a great mood. He was grinning, spinning his stick in his hand like a baton."Look at the Cap!" Swiss shouted, his voice echoing off the empty seats. "Already out here working while the rest of us were dreaming about waffles. No wonder you’re the star, Liam."I laughed, wiping sweat from my forehead with my jersey sleeve. "Someone has to keep this team in shape, Swiss. You look like you just rolled out of bed.""I did," Swiss admitted, skating o

It was Saturday, and usually, Saturday nights were the best part of the week. No early practice the next day, no classes to worry about; just time to be guys."Pizza night?" Toby asked immediately we finished gyming. He looked hopeful. "I think we all need to get out of this building for a few hours."going to lose my mind thinking about letters and board members."Yeah," I said, standing up. "Pizza sounds good. Are all the guys going?""Most of the guys," Toby said. "Even Mark.”We went to Tony’s, a small pizza shop about two blocks from the edge of campus. We pushed three large tables together in the back corner. The smell of melting cheese and garlic bread filled the air. For a moment, as the guys started laughing and fighting over who got the last piece of pepperoni, it felt like a normal Saturday. "Man, this reminds me of the Carl situation," Mark said, his mouth full of crust. He was finally back to his old self, making jokes and taking up too much space. The table went quiet f
