Chapter 9

Next morning, when Lyla woke up, Hansel had already made breakfast and set them all on the table.

“Good morning, mummy!:

Lyla nodded.

“Morning!”

When Lyla was about to sit down to have her breakfast, Hansel stared at her and said, “Wait!”

“What’s the matter?” said Lyla. She dared not move as she was being stared at.

“Today is your first day at work, don’t you think you should put on something a little more… celebratory?” Hansel commented.

“Celebratory?”

“Yes! Pink, for example.”

“I don’t think that’s necessary.”

“But it is necessary!”

All of the sudden, Gretel appeared out of nowhere and scurried into Lyla’s room.

Lyla could not help but look at the little girl. Usually, she would still be lazing around the bed. It was odd seeing her getting up so early in the morning.

Just as she was indulging in her curiosity, Gretel came out from her room, wearing her own cotton slippers, into Lyla’s room, and came out with Lyla’s clothes in her hands.

“Mummy! This one! This one looks celebratory!”

Lyla turned to Hansel and Hansel nodded with a stern look.

“Are you sure?”

Both siblings nodded in agreement.

“Alright then!” Lyla said and nodded along. She took the clothes from Gretel and went into her room to change.

After so many years, the two little kids rarely interfered with Lyla’s wardrobe. She had no idea what had gotten into them that day. That being said, she should have put on something a little more cheerful on the first day of her work.

When she came out, both Hansel and Gretel stood there, nodding away before they gave a thumbs up.

“Beautiful!”

“The two of you are being weird!”

“It’s your first day of work! Of course we should be happy about it!” said Gretel snickering away.

“It is also the first day of school for the two of you! You shouldn’t be late. Wash up and get dressed! I’ll send you to school after breakfast!” said Lyla.

“Ok!” Gretel replied and hurried to have a bath and have a change.

It was only a moment before she returned wearing a princess-like dress. Her messy hair from before was now silky smooth.

Lyla looked at Gretel and smiled.

“Alright then! Let’s eat!”

“Okay!”

Both Hansel and Gretel sat down obediently and started to have their breakfast.

“Mummy, you are going to M.K. Corporation, yes?” Gretel suddenly asked halfway through her meal.

“That’s right. What’s the matter?”

“Nothing. I just wanted to know.”

Lyla had a good look at the two of them and said, “So weird!”

Hansel and Gretel shared a look with each other and stopped saying anything more as they continued finishing their breakfast.

After breakfast, Lyla sent them to their school and took a cab to her work place.

When Lyla went away, Gretel immediately opened her mouth and asked, “Hansel! Did you do your research properly? Was it M.K Corporation?”

“I did. If that man was real…”

“Do you want him to be real or not?” Gretel asked curiously, eyes widened.

Hansel thought hard for a bit.

“He is a playboy. I will reserve my judgement!”

Gretel heard that comment and nodded.

“That’s true.”

“Leave it be. Let’s go to school.”

“Mhm!”

The two walked together into the classroom.

Lyla could be described as clocking into work right on the second. And since it was her first day at work, she first headed to the Human Resource Department.

“Hello. I’m Lyla Lowe. I have been corresponding with someone from your department,” said Lyla with a smile. To begin with, Lyla had a clear-cut stature and her smile and mannerism only accentuated her charm.

Miss Lockhardt of the Human Resource Department was mildly taken aback when she saw Lyla Lowe.

“Hello there. I’d never thought the real you was far more beautiful than your picture!”

“Thank you!”

“According to my report… it says that today should be your first day here. I’d never have thought to see you so punctual.

“It’s my first day! It is only obligated to do so.”

“Very well then. Let me show you the Design Department! Come along,” said Miss Lockhardt as she led Lyla to the Design Department.
