A week passed like a breeze, yet the citadel carried an air of unsettlement. Rows of rogue slaves were led to the Grand Court. Only a few remained since most had escaped before tonight and were now being hunted by soldiers.

The seat grew hot beneath Eryndra. Most of the rogue slaves bore heavy bruises, dry and fresh blood staining their skin, making them look broken and lean.

She couldn’t imagine the suffering they had endured.

Being a slave in this realm was hell on earth.

“You can’t possibly be in your right mind, Theron. What is your problem?! What is it that this woman has done to you?”Theron released an exasperated breath. “Mother—”“Are you hearing yourself?! You can have your life back. You are supposed to be by the king’s side. Second in rank with all the strength and power you desire. Are you telling me you want to throw it… all away for some fucking rogue cunt?!”“Stop!” Theron yelled, rising to his feet in a mad rush. He went to stand before her, the barricade the only thing between them.Lady Reaya froze, eyes widening.“She is not a cunt,” he said in a calmer voice, a contrast to his burning eyes.Reaya let out a sob, fingers trembling around her shawl.“She seduced you. Fled from you. Deceived you. Left you for dead—”“None of that is true. You don’t know her, Mother.”“Oh, I know she will be the end of you. Go out there, trace her, and bring her to Kallias. She should receive the judgment she deserves. Let things go back to where they wer

ERYNDRAWinter was harsh. The cold was frigid as snow fell from the sky.Eryndra locked her eyes on her prey, her fingers tight around her drawn arrow, eyes burning with fierce focus. The deer was focused on the grass, oblivious to the danger lurking.Eryndra was about to release the arrow when a sudden noise came from a tree branch. The deer lifted its head sharply, ears strained with alert. It spotted Eryndra.“No!” Eryndra released the arrow, but it struck a tree instead. The deer escaped.“Fuck,” she hissed under her breath. Anger bubbled inside her as footsteps echoed from behind.“Why hunt when there is plenty of food?”Eryndra exhaled smoke through her mouth and shot a glare over the branch of the tree where the intruder sat.“How many times do I have to tell you not to interrupt my hunt, Erica?”Erica landed on the ground with an effortless thud.“Come on, little sis. You’ve been sulking around for the past three years.” The way her lazy voice drawled without sincerity always

“Open it,” Kallias commanded.Soldiers stepped forward, pushing the rug aside. A heavy wooden floor door followed, revealing stairs that led down into darkness.Da’Gaint lit a torch and stepped in first before Kallias followed. They halted before the first heavy gate.Keys clattered as Da’Gaint opened the gate. They stepped inside. The place smelled rusty and dusty, as it hadn’t been cleaned or touched for three years—only by a few maids who delivered the bare minimum of meals and water to the prisoner here.Kallias summoned his beast, his eyes glowing gold in the darkness for more insight. His gaze landed on the far end. A large dungeon, surrounded by the strongest walls and strongest bars, impossible to break. From the far end he could make out the silhouette of a male around the corner. Long dark hair fell messily over his face. His body looked thinner, sharper, like the three years had carved away everything soft. Even sitting still, he carried the same dangerous presence.Theron

KALLIASFor the past years, on every full moon, Kallias had always been satisfied through hunting the rogues who caused him sleepless nights or sleeping with the one true female he loved, Lyria.Lady Reaya had been skeptical for years before finally allowing him to be the only one to satisfy her beast, instead of other paid males. Even in her feral state, Lyria’s body still needed to be fed, and Kallias loathed the idea of another male touching her.But Theron never allowed it. He always hindered him with some strange moral conviction. So Kallias went behind his back and did it anyway. He was the only male meant for Lyria. Theron himself knew that. So what was the point of stopping him? And what was the point of using it against him later—after catching him plunging into his own betrothed, who turned out to be an Aetheria rogue he had deliberately kept hidden? That night destroyed so much inside him.Including his satisfaction. The darkness within him deepened after that. Everything h

Jerik’s pupils dilated. He took a step back as if struck by lightning.“W…what?”Kayara stepped closer, glaring straight into his eyes.“You know it, Jerik,” her voice trembled. “That is why you were so calm in the court earlier. If Eryndra is truly an Aetheria rogue, then Kallias wouldn’t have kept her alive for three whole fucking years. He would have ended her right after they got married.”She nodded slowly and smiled to herself. “I knew something was off with the masked female.”Jerik chuckled awkwardly.“You’re probably stressed. You should get some rest.”“Don’t try to tell me I’m crazy.”Jerik’s fists clenched and his nose flared. “Kayara.”“Don’t!”“Fuck,” he hissed. “I knew it was a bad idea for you to show up here. Now that you’ve cracked that answer, your life is in danger.”Kayara frowned.Jerik continued in a harsh whisper. “You have no idea how many people Kallias has killed for knowing that secret. And if you so much as breathe a word that lets him suspect you know the

The head healer just drew a cover over the Queen’s body. She took a step and faced the servants.“Drop whatever you came with and leave. The Queen will now have her rest,” the head healer said and left. The other servants obeyed, but Kayara slowed down on purpose. She dropped one of the apples on purpose and pretended to set it aside to wash it, allowing the other servants to leave before her.Kayara quickly went to the door and clicked it shut quietly. Then she turned to the woman lying on the bed.She approached her slowly, heart pounding in her chest. The Queen stirred, peeking weakly from the sheet.“Who is that?” came a hoarse whisper.“It’s me.” Kayara rushed to her side, hand reaching out.The Queen shot up to sit, dodging before Kayara could touch her.“What in the world are you doing here?”“Eryn.” Tears stung Kayara’s eyes. The metal on her friend’s face glittered under the warm glow of the night candles. There was a new whip mark on her skin, one the head healers must have
