Chapter Nineteen

Ivy

“Eat, honey. You can’t keep feeling sorry for yourself.”

“My stomach is just upset. I’ll eat later.”

It’s a lie. I won’t eat later. I know what is wrong with me, but I refuse to acknowledge it. If I say it out loud, I can’t ignore it anymore. I knew pregnancy could happen since we didn’t use protection, but I thought I would be lucky enough that it wouldn’t happen.

It’s been a few weeks and Maddox and Maverick haven’t come looking for me or reached out to me. I hear their names occasionally on the news. They seem to do well; they have a pretty good following of people who are ready for a change, and I hope they can bring change because I want my child to grow up in a world that treats them with respect regardless of their sex.

“Would you tell me what’s bothering you?”

“I told you no.” I snapped at my mother.

“If I told you, you would judge me.”

My mother sat next to me and stroked my head. “Ivy, I would never judge you. I’m here to support you.”
