Dear diary,
Let me tell you about that moment…
The very first time I set my eyes on Tristan Hemmingway at school.
Oh, how did I know his full name? Well, the girls sitting behind me simply couldn’t stop mentioning it.
To be honest, time just stopped, and I’m not exaggerating or anything.
For a moment, I couldn’t breathe.
Then came the slow whooshing of air into my lungs, forcing me to inhale deeply. Time struggled with the freeze to bring everything back to normal, but the battle was difficult.
Yet even then, it seemed as though time would emerge out of this battle the winner.
Very cliché, I know… but that’s exactly what happened to me!
I watched him enter the lecture room in slow motion, the smile on his face turning into full-fledged laughter as he bro hugged one of his friends and they stopped for a chat.
He was so beautiful.
I couldn’t say much about him because our encounter was rather short, but there was no denying that Tristan was a very attractive guy, and that he had an equally charming personality to go with it. Even with that, there was also this pinch of darkness that I could sense around him that made him all the more alluring to me… it was as though he was hiding some huge secret, or something quite close to that.
As a matter of fact, I think I just might have a little crush!
Now back to me for a moment, since you don’t really know me and I just started writing in you…
I’m Natalie and I just moved into this stupid neighborhood, all thanks to some stupid relative of my stupid parents —naah, I’m just kidding, they’re pretty amazing and I love them to bits, but we never settle at one place for long because of their work or some other big thing and it really is a major bummer all the time.
I’ve been to a lot of places in my eighteen years of existence.
I’ve met a lot of people, but I don’t have any friends, you know?
What’s the point anyway?
I’d leave them behind eventually after all, and then we’d try the long distance shit that always fades into nothingness.
Hard pass.
But for some reason, Bloomingdale Valley seemed like it would be different, and not just because I’m finally attracted to some guy I don’t even know, you know? –okay it might be a little, but I really don’t think that’s the only reason.
I-I just don’t know how to explain it… it’s like this gut feeling in the pit of my stomach, but we live to see.
********Natalie was stuck in a deep sleep, and who could blame her really?
She had started college today, and had pretty much forgotten how stressful the whole experience could be even when one was in great condition, much more to talk about walking all day with a limp.
Yes, a week had passed since the incident. The cast had come off, the crutches had been done away with, and honestly speaking, Natalie had not wanted to spend another day alone in the beautifully creepy mansion, and so she had gone to campus, despite the slight pain and soreness she could still feel in her leg.
The eighteen-year-old couldn’t explain it, but she had this feeling in her belly that just wouldn’t go away.
I-it felt like that calm before a storm… like-like that tensious pause of silence before thunder struck after a streak of lightning appeared. Truly, it felt like that eerie silence in scary movies before the horror strikes!
And Natalie didn’t like it one bit.
Apparently, Natalie wasn’t the only person feeling this. Her parents could feel it too. As a matter of fact, everyone in the house was walking on eggshells, as-as if anything they did wrong could set evil off.
So the young woman slept.
At first, it was a peaceful sleep… a dreamless one in fact, but Natalie soon became restless, tossing and turning, still stuck in the clutches of deep sleep, only…
It wasn’t peaceful anymore.
Someone was standing over her bed, watching her as she slept. Natalie could see him, and he stared right back into her sea-blue depths.
No, it wasn’t a person?
It was a monster! The creature that stood before Natalie seemed human but looked nothing like it. It had hideous, fiery red eyes and a faceless face… its body flowed seamlessly, like it was made from black gases.
Natalie tried to scream, she tried to thrash or fight at the very least, but it seemed she had been frozen –whether from fear or by a spell of some kind, she had no idea.
A tear slipped down her face, and she mentally recoiled in horror as the thing— no the monster pounced on her… its dark, cloudy, gown-like lower body morphing into blood sucking tentacles as it straddled her.
Natalie watched, eyes wide in horror. That was the only part of her body that was functioning as it should anyway, but try as she did, she couldn’t get it to shut tight for long. It seemed as though some force was commanding her… forcing her to do its bidding.
The teenager could see a small hole open up on the face of the monster,
Right where its mouth should have been.
The cavity gradually widened, a horde of tiny sharp teeth appearing as the creature leaned in, its foul breath stinging Natalie’s eyes, releasing a fresh bout of tears.
Apparently, her nose was functioning just as well.
The whole scenario reminded the silver-haired girl of that scene in Grimm where the monster stole a guy’s sleep, and she couldn’t help but wonder if perhaps, this one too wanted to do the same thing to her. She prayed desperately to anyone who cared to listen to wake her up from the nightmare she was in, but it was pretty obvious that everything was really happening.
Live and colored.
“You. Are. Mine, Nataleeee,” The creature growled, its makeshift mouth closing in on her neck as he breathed against her creamy skin. “All mineeee.”
The young woman felt the bite, short and very painful against her neck, and then she woke up with a start.
It was a dream.
It had all been a dream!
Natalie sat up on her bed, her heart still thumping from how realistic the horrifying nightmare had been. Her whole body ached, especially her neck and so the young woman reached out to massage the soft creamy skin.
A soft gasp escaped her lips.
Right across her neck were what looked like tiny bite marks!
That night, Natalie returned home feeling like she was on top of the world. Her little time at the archives hadn’t yielded much result, but she was still excited anyway, because at least she had found something, something important that led her to believe that she wasn’t making things up after all.Great aunt Martha had reported that her house was haunted!Honestly speaking, this was something that should have bothered the silver-haired girl a lot more, because what were the odds that two people from different age groups were seeing the same things? But how could it when she had other important things on her mind?Other important things, like how she had kissed Parker in the library?Natalie still couldn’t believe that had happened! Her mind flitted back to earlier that day, how it had happened… how it had totally been unplanned… how, when they had kissed, the world had stopped spinning…Even if it had been just for a very brief moment. The two of them had been standing between the ta
End of class couldn’t come soon enough for Natalie Sanders. At least this time, she had managed to shut off her brain enough to actually pay attention in class, but as soon as the bell had rung, she quickly grabbed all of her stuff and charged for the car park like a woman possessed. When she got to the car park, which they had both agreed to meet up at, Parker was nowhere to be seen.I guess she was early. Natalie slumped against a nearby lamppost, tapping her foot impatiently as she watched people move past her.Bloomingdale Valley Uni did not have that many people like the other colleges in the city did, being a close knit community and all, so the silver haired girl felt rather exposed and vulnerable with everyone watching her like that, but she tried her best not to dwell on those feelings. She was sure everyone knew who she was by now.The new girl who lived in the Suicide House. She still couldn’t believe that was what they were calling it.You know, now that she thought about
“Natalie! Wait up!”The girl with the silver hair heard her name being called out as she walked through the beautiful campus compound, the words making her stop in her tracks to look back.Parker.Oh, thank God!Natalie had barely slept a wink last night thinking about him, about what he could possibly know about her house, and so she was rather glad that he had found her first.Lord knows that she had been absolutely prepared to skip first period just so she could comb the entire campus for him, and she knew without a doubt that she would have missed her second class if she had not found him by then, which was crazy, considering she had never missed any class deliberately before. It looked like Bloomingdale Valley was turning our girl into a hardcore delinquent!“Natalie, hi.” The heavily tattooed guy greeted her when he finally caught up with her, barely out of breath even with the long distance he had literally dashed across to catch up with her.He looked really nice today in his
The drive back home after lectures was a long one for Natalie, which surprised the girl, because the campus wasn’t that far from her neighborhood,But perhaps that had more to do with her than anything else. You see, all through the day, Natalie’s mind had been filled with many thoughts…Thoughts about her terrifying house, about her parents, and then, to make matters worse, about Parker and Tristan. Her mind had been so unsettled that, for the first time in her life, Natalie had been asked twice by one of her professors if she was with them in the class, something that had never happened before. You know, right before Tristan had intruded on them, Parker was going to tell her something about her house, or about the fact that she was new in town… Natalie couldn’t exactly tell which.Still, she had seen that look of shock, possibly fear in his eyes, and frankly speaking, it had worried her so much that as soon as lectures had ended for the day, she had gone all over campus looking for
Tristan Hemingway did not like this new development one bit. Now, more than ever, he needed to stay very far away from the girl, but how could he? How could he when she was suddenly fraternizing with his greatest nemesis?Could the timing be any wrong? Why had the fates decided to torture him by bringing Parker freaking Antonio into Natalie’s life, knowing very well that he was going to have to avoid her so he didn’t trigger her memory gain? There was a chance that the…Wait, what had he been thinking about again? There was a chance that the...Tristan couldn’t recall, for his thoughts trailed off as he watched Natalie storm out of the cafeteria, her silver hair glinting in the warm sunlight. He ran a hand through his own hair, his frustration at himself, at the girl and at their whole situation mounting. How had things spiraled out of control so quickly? They had been making so much progress, and then he had gone to ruin it.All he had tried to do was keep her at a distance so who he
If Natalie thought the tension at home was bad, she soon realised that she had been quite hasty with her judgment, for the tension here, right now, with these two gentlemen was so powerful that even words could not start to describe it.But you know me, I’m going to try.A loaded, pregnant silence filled the atmosphere as Parker slowly rose to his feet… as he and Tristan continued to size each other up, their chests rising with anger as they drank in all the air in the little space until Natalie felt like she was suffocating under a thick blanket. The two men were locked in a silent standoff, their mutual animosity evident in their glares.Natalie’s gaze flitted from one man to the other, her mind racing wildly as she continued to stand there, for a moment unsure of what to do.She cleared her throat when she finally had her thought process put together.“Uhm… do you… do you two know each other?” She finally asked, ignoring the slight tremor in her voice.Parker was the one to break th
