Chapter 5: her father’s pride

 “Once again you have made me proud,Jewel.” He said as he stood up and hugged her. Jana fumed inside her. She had intended to cause a rift no matter how small between this two. Now she had instead served as a link between these two. Her bitterness towards her sister only increased more. Instead of showing it,she gave her twin  fake smile.

 “Oh wow.I didn’t know that he was your mate,and I berated you about it. Congratulations sis.” She said as she took her sister’s hand. Jewel wondered with shock what the unusual niceness from her sister was,and thought maybe she had decided to have a change of heart. Jewel smiled at her warmly and gripped her sister’s hand. “Thanks Jana.You will find your own  mate soon enough.” She said and that only served to en-bitter Jana even more. She sat on her seat and saw AlphaMarcus beaming at Jewel with so much pride.

   

      Tears stung Jana’s eyes. Her father had never looked at her with such eyes. “Learn from Jewel. She is leading an exemplary life,you should do same,Jana. And quit giving me unnecessary heartaches.” Her father said and suddenly Anger enveloped her. She struggled to hold it back and instead gave her father a wry smile. “Yes father.” She said simply and they started to eat. “So when do you plan to introduce your mate to us?” Jana asked her sister,her eyes focused on her food.

    “She won’t be doing any introduction until your eighteenth birthday,when she will present I=him in front of the council. I hope to the moon goddess,that you would have found yourself a mate and spare me the shame of being a mate-less royal werewolf.” Her father said. Jana felt her blood boiling,but instead suppressed it and smiled again and nodded. They all ate their dinner in silence and then after eating,everyone dispersed into their different rooms.

 Alpha Marcus called Jewel with him into his study. Jana followed them quietly and decided to eavesdrop. “Jewel dear,I need your advice on how to go about this issue we are having. The amount of wool that we export outside America has reduced drastically due to the reduction in our sheep flocks.

  I do not know what is causing the sheep to die,but the veterinary doctors are currently investigating it. However I’m thinking f not Just exporting wools alone.I’m thinking of exporting other agricultural products. But I need your advice on what we can export that would help to build the economy back.” She overheard her father speaking to Jewel. They now completely leave me out of Pack official matters. Father doesn’t in anyway rate me.  I do not know what I can do to let Father acknowledge me or give me a little bit of respect that he gives to Jewel. Jana thought angrily as she walked to her bedroom.

    She banged her door and locked it. She screamed into her bedsheets so that no one would notice her screaming. Am I going to lose to Jewel again? Why does the moon goddess always favour her? First she gave her the better facial looks,then she gave the most brilliant mind,now she granted her a mate first. Why does she always beat me first? Why can’t I ever beat her at least once in life? She asked herself in frustrations.Her mind went back to the look on her father’s face. That look of pride. Never.not once has she ever received that look from her father.Nothing she ever did made sense to her Father. All he ever did was compare her with that stupid obnoxious twin of hers.. And that Jewel. Thinking she’s all high and mighty now that she has gotten herself a mate.

    “You will find your mate soon?” She said to herself,reminding herself at the statement that Jewel had made at the dining room. She wiped her tears off her eyes and thoughts ran in head. How was she going to outsmart Jewel in this one,because she couldn’t let her win again in this round. All she wanted was to get acknowledgement from her father and the Pack’s council of elders. Her phone beeped and she turned to heck who it was that texted her.

Jewel went into her room. The discussion she had just had with her father had revealed to her the economic hassle their pack was going through. She decided to go do her research on the one crop they could export that would help to boost the pack’s economic status. She quickly changed her clothes and took her night shower.After coming out of the bathroom,she changed into a matching Pyjama and wore a hair band over her long thick black hair. Her phone vibrated and she checked.To her dismay,she saw ten missed calls from an unknown number,and knew immediately who it was that was trying to reach her.

    The number called her again and she picked it immediately. “Hello Princess.” Asher’s deep voice filled her ears and the sweet feeling of butterflies fluttering in her belly filled her.  Her cheeks became hot as soon as she heard his voice. “Hello Asher.” She said and at down on her bed. “What is our princess up to? Had dinner?” Asher asked and Jewel smiled. “Yes I have.I’m okay.I was about to go to bed when I saw that you called me ten times. What the heck man?” She asked chuckling. “Well,I wanted to hear your voice this night or else,Ares won’t let me be.” He said referring to his wolf. Jewel knew then at this point that Asher already knew that she was his mate.

     

      “Well,Juniper too really wanted to hear your voice too I guess.” She said shyly and he smiled.”Who would have known that my mate would be in New York City.” He said and she sighed. “Me too,ho would have thought so. That my mate would be a transfer student,and that he would waltz into my classroom four months to my birthday.” She said and yawned loudly. He heard Asher chuckle and she giggled. “Gosh that was so embarrassing.” She said and both of them laughed.  “Well then.Let’s talk tomorrow at school. Hold on,have you spoken to your dad about the mate bond?” He asked.

    “Yes. I have spoken to him. He said to postpone the introduction till my eighteenth birthday.” She said and he sighed. “I told my mom about it,and she was thrilled. She wants to meet you as soon as possible. Plus,I want to see your twin sister. Do you guys look alike?  And is she like you in character?” He asked and Jewel chuckled. “We look alike a bit. She is a bit fleshier than i am. And she is not like me anyway. She is a lot more mischievous than I am. But the fact remains that you’ll like.  Though she has a little drama in her,but she’s a very nice girl.” Jewel said and Asher sighed again.

   “Well then.. Maybe you could stop by tomorrow at my place. So that my mom and little sis can meet you.” He said. “Okay perfect then. Hopefully my sister would come to school tomorrow and I would get to introduce you to each other. I need to get me some sleep. See you in school tomorrow?” She asked.  “Yeah. I would see you in school tomorrow.” He said and she ended the call. She plugged the phone and jumped on her bed. Her mind fluttered at the memory of Asher’s beautiful smile. Is this what love feels like? Man,if this is how love feels I want to feel it every day. Having a mate is a wonderful thing and the feeling that comes with it is beautiful. I want to experience this everyday. She giggled and ruffled her bedsheets.

    She rolled under her duvet and switched off her light and slept off.

Jana was irritated hearing Jewel gush over her new found mate and it pissed her off at her sister’s foolish love escapade. Worse still,her father had given her chance to date. “Hey girl. Did you see the picture that  was sent to the group.” Her best friend,Melinda texted her.”Yeah I saw it. I tried to use it as a leverage to cause a rift between her and Father. But instead she announced that the boy was her mate.” She replied the message. “What?!The new boy is her mate? And she wait till you showed the alpha the picture to announce that he is her mate. That sneaky bitch.” Melinda replied and Jana scoffed.

    “Yes the sneaky bitch. Now she has an advantage over me. She has become the first between the two of us to have a mate,and you ought to see Father gush over her and give her a thumbs up. I just wanted to whack off that stupid smile over her face.I have been thinking what to do,that would crush Dad’s respect in her and that would ruin her reputation in front of the whole school and the whole pack at that.” Jana replied and waited for Melinda to text back. “You definitely need to teach her a lesson. And I can imagine the look of mock pity on her face. How I hate hat twin sister of yours. What do you have in mind?”Melinda asked. Just then a message popped up. “Come to the witch’s palace and receive all you heart’s desires.” The message said and Jana knew there and then what she was going to do. “I think I have found out the best way to act.” She texted Melinda and then smiled evilly.
