Sacrificing My Dead Parents for His Glory

I opened Seth Johnson's Instagram and immediately saw a post with more than 10,000 comments.

[Being the only one you spoil gives me the freedom to do whatever I want.]

It was a short caption, but every word made it clear just how much my wife, Serena Clark, doted on him.

The photo above the caption was the same viral picture of him scattering ashes from a yacht that people online had been trying to imitate.

What no one knew was that the ashes he had tossed into the sea were my parents'.

I looked up at the TV mounted on the wall. Seth was accepting the championship trophy at the Young Designers Competition, something he had won with my design.

The person presenting him the award was Serena herself.

The host asked Serena to comment on Seth.

Serena, who normally avoided speaking in public, surprised everyone by taking the microphone. "Seth is the most naturally gifted designer I've ever met."

Seth flashed a brilliant smile. "All my inspiration comes from the woman who loves me the most."

The screaming fans in the audience sent the awards ceremony into a frenzy.

I touched my cheek, only to realize it was wet with tears.

Serena had once vowed under the moonlight to protect me and my dreams. Now, she had eyes only for another man.

I called my lawyer, Ben Cooper, and asked him to come to the house. Then I took the divorce papers out of the safe.

Serena had signed these papers and given them to me when we first got married.

She said that if she ever did something to break my heart, I could punish her by making her spend the rest of her life without the man she loved the most.

I had no intention of punishing her. I only wanted to use those papers to buy my freedom for the rest of my life.

I had just finished signing them when Ben arrived.

As soon as he saw the divorce papers, he couldn't help but exclaim, "How could Ms. Clark possibly agree to divorce you?"

But there was no denying the signature on the papers.

I didn't explain. I simply told Ben to get the divorce finalized as quickly as possible and bring the papers to Serena.

The moment Ben left, Serena came home.

She walked in with a dark look on her face. "Did you take the ring I personally made for Seth?"

I gave her a blank look. "I don't know what ring you're talking about."

Her eyes fell on the news replaying on the TV.

"All I did was present Seth with an award, and you got so jealous that you hid the ring I gave him? Now you're trying to ruin his celebration too?" she asked.

Before I could explain, she gestured to the bodyguards standing nearby. "Take him to the celebration party!"

"Serena, I—"

The rest of my words were cut off when a foul-smelling rag was shoved into my mouth.

Serena gently brushed her fingers over my cheek. "Scott, be a good boy. Don't make Seth unhappy."

My body trembled uncontrollably at her icy tone. The last time I heard something like that was two weeks ago, at Seth's birthday party.

Serena had forced me to attend the event. The moment I arrived, the nine-tiered birthday cake suddenly collapsed.

Seth glared at me, looking both hurt and furious. "I just wanted to have a nice birthday, and you actually had someone sabotage the cake Serena gave me! That's way too much!"

That day, Serena made me get down on the floor and eat every last bit of the birthday cake that had fallen onto the ground.
