Lydia turned abruptly, muttering with a grim face, "Why isn't Gene awake yet after all this time?"

She hurried away with small steps, calling out as she went, "Nurse! Come check on my son. Why hasn't he woken up yet? Never mind. Take me to the doctor. It's no use talking to you."

As soon as she left, the ward fell silent.

Jacklyn's gaze shifted from Lydia's retreating back. When it landed on Eugene, she realized he had woken up at some point.

"Jackie," he said, struggling to sit up.

Seeing his strained movements, Jacklyn said indifferently, "You're not fully recovered yet, so don't move for now."

Only then did Eugene stop. His face was pale, and his voice was tinged with panic when he said, "Jackie, I dreamed you left me. No matter where I looked, I just couldn't find you."

He looked at her with pleading eyes. "Jackie, could you please not leave me?"
