Chapter 6 Egg Sandwich

On the morning of the next day.

Laura was just about to head off to work when the door was opened from the outside.

When she saw the familiar face, she asked in surprise, "You're back?"

'I thought he said he was going to be gone for a week. It's only been four days,' thought Laura.

When Chris saw the surprised look on Laura's face, his face turned cold. 'It seems that I'm back a little too early! It seems that I've caught her by surprise.'

Chris didn't have any feelings for Laura, but that didn't mean he would allow her to cheat on him.

He looked around the room, but couldn't see anyone else.

He then asked with a straight face, "Where's that guy?"

"What guy?"

Laura didn't get what Chris was asking at first. However, when she saw Chris looking at the clothes hanging on the balcony, Laura realized what Chris was talking about.

She quickly walked over and took the clothes off the hangers. "I'm sorry, you weren't home these past few days. I'm all alone and a little scared. Therefore, I hung some of your clothes on the balcony and put a pair of your shoes outside."

Laura's words made Chris dumbfounded.

He hadn't looked at the clothes in detail before, but now, he realized the clothes and the shoes really were his.

"I've sent you a text, but you didn't reply..."

Before using Chris's clothes, Laura had sent him a text.

After hearing Laura's explanation, Chris's face softened.

"I've been quite busy lately, so I wasn't really paying attention to texts. Next time, you can..."

Chris would have bodyguards with him at all times when he traveled. He subconsciously wanted to say that Laura could get the bodyguards to stand guard, but he suddenly realized that hiring bodyguards was something she had never done.

"What can I do?" Laura looked at Chris curiously.

"Nothing." Chris swallowed the words that he was about to say. "My business trip ended quicker than I expected. I'll be coming home for the next few days. You can pack those things away."

"Okay." Laura nodded. "I didn't expect your CEO to be so nice. He actually let you finish your business trip early."

Chris was at a loss for words.

"Now, you can get some rest. I'm going to work." Laura noticed the tired look in Chris's eyes and knew that he had been very busy the past few days, so he didn't get enough rest.

"Let me give you a lift. I need to head to my office as well." Chris took out a jacket from the closet and followed Laura out of the house.

Laura didn't refuse his offer. Chris led Laura to a normal black MPV.

"You can give me a shout in the future in the morning when you need to get to work. I can give you a lift." Chris sat in the driver's seat. His longer and slender fingers held the steering wheel.

"I start work earlier than you. Don't you need more rest?" Laura clearly remembered that Chris was still asleep when she headed to work in the past.

Chris shook his head. "I'm alright. You head off to work just a little after seven o'clock in the morning, right?"

Laura nodded her head.

She didn't take Chris's words seriously. To her surprise, Chris woke up early the next morning and gave her a lift to work.

When they drove past a stall, Laura asked Chris to stop the car. "Let's get some breakfast."

From what Laura knew, the Jacobs Group's canteen wouldn't open in the mornings.

If it were herself, she would just have some bread and milk when she got to the convenience store, but Chris was with her. To Laura, Chris woke up early to give her a lift, so she felt that she should do something.

She opened the car door and got off. She went to the stall and bought an egg sandwich.

To ensure that Chris was getting enough nutrients, Laura asked for extra eggs in the egg sandwich.

After getting back into the car, Laura passed the sandwich to Chris.

Chris was rendered speechless.

The smell and look of the sandwich caused Chris to not want to take a bite at all.

He had never eaten such things.

However, looking at Laura's dark and expectant eyes, Chris subconsciously took the sandwich from her hands.

After he finished the egg sandwich, Laura passed a carton of milk to him as well.

"I start work early every morning. Otherwise, I would have been able to make breakfast at home."

Laura felt that it would be clean and cheap to make breakfast at home.

Chris was again, rendered speechless.

After arriving at the Jacobs Group, Chris went upstairs whilst rubbing his belly. He felt that his stomach was feeling a little uncomfortable.

"Mr. Jacobs, breakfast has arrived, do you want the breakfast now?"

"No, I'll pass. You can have it." Chris shook his head and sat on the chair to pour himself some tea.

Assistant Jacobs gave Chris a puzzled look. 'Mr. Jacobs has always paid attention to his health. He would never miss a regular meal and would never work with an empty stomach. How come he doesn't want any breakfast today?'

Different kinds of thoughts flashed in Assistant Jacobs' mind, but he didn't dare ask his employer about his personal life. All he could do was to warn himself to be extra careful today.

Meanwhile, in the convenience store next to the Jacobs Group.

"Greetings."

After hearing someone walking into the store, Laura raised her head, but her face changed.

"Laura Walker, where have you been for the past few days? How dare you not come home? Haven't you seen my message telling you to transfer 20 thousand dollars to your brother?" Shona walked into the store with a cold face.
