EMILY’S POV

The soft sound of papers flipping reached my ears, pulling me out of sleep. My eyes blinked open slowly, adjusting to the dim light filling the room. I turned my head to the right, my vision still a little blurry, and saw a tall figure sitting on the edge of the bed, leaning forward under the glow of the bedside lamp.

At first, my sleepy mind almost panicked for a second. But then I recognized him.

"Babe," I called out softly, my voice hoarse from sleep.

The figure turned immediately, clearly startled by my voice. His sharp, handsome face became clearer under the light. It was Ethan. His deep eyes locked with mine, and I noticed the tension in his shoulders soften just a little when he saw me awake.

I smiled faintly and pushed the duvet off my body. Slowly, I crawled across the bed towards him. He dropped the file he was holding onto the small table beside him and shifted his weight, widening his arms slightly.
