Chapter 2

Author: Alive
At the celebration party, Aemyth was surrounded by the guests. The bandages wrapped around her ankle were exceptionally obvious.

Our mother, Claudia Lakeshore, helped her sit down with heartbreak etched all over her face.

"Aemyth refused to even take a break despite having injured herself just so she could score a chance at making it through the tryouts. Thank goodness her efforts didn't go to waste."

The moment Aemyth saw me, the smile on her face froze momentarily.

"Aerith, you're here!"

She studied the bandages covering my face as she continued airily, "You don't have to come all the way here just to congratulate me, you know? After all, you've been preparing for the tryouts for a year, yet you can't even make it through the main entrance of the audition hall."

Everyone around us went quiet for a moment. Then, Aemyth linked arms with me.

"Well, now that you no longer have to go through dance practice anymore, life should be easier for you. Then again, I suppose that you can't even perform the most basic pirouette without your wolf now, can you?"

I didn't answer her.

The screen behind Aemyth was playing the selected performance. I saw Aemyth leaning forward in time with the music, her arm suspended in mid-air. Then, she turned and leaped.

I was stunned, to say the least.

Every single move Aemyth exhibited throughout the dance—from the opener all the way to the final glance over the shoulder she cast at the audience—was the same as the choreography I drafted for the tryouts.

I had spent one full year tweaking and editing the choreography. Heck, I didn't even have time to give it a name.

Yet now, there was a line at the bottom of the screen that stated, "Original dance piece choreographed by Aemyth Nightbloom."

"You look so serious when you're watching the clip, Aerith."

Aemyth approached me, her voice soon lowering.

"Is it because you think I did a better job performing it than you ever could?"

I glanced at her.

"Where did you pick up the moves?"

Aemyth just smiled at me without answering. She even squeezed my hand tightly.

The next thing I knew, she let out a pained scream all of a sudden before collapsing backward.

"Aerith, don't do this!"

Ivander quickly let go of me so that he could catch Aemyth. Without his support, I stumbled sideways, only to collide with a table's edge. My wounds hurt so much that I was practically seeing dark spots forming in my vision.

But Ivander just busied himself with checking Aemyth's ankle.

"Are you hurt anywhere?"

"I'm fine." Aemyth's eyes were already red-rimmed by then. "Aerith must be in a terrible mood. I shouldn't have brought up the tryouts in front of her."

The guests' expressions shifted immediately.

"Aemyth's still injured! How could you push her?"

I could only stabilize myself by holding onto the table.

"I did no such thing."

Ivander turned around to look at me. This time, he adopted a softer tone.

"Aerith, if you're mad about something, you can just let me know. Don't make light of Aemyth's injury."

He didn't even bother asking me what happened just now.

Mother was about to chime in when her phone suddenly rang. After she was done taking that phone call, she pulled Aemyth into a tight hug happily.

"The organizing committee told me that your dance piece has been shortlisted for the opening solo performance!"

Ivander whirled around immediately. "Really?"

Aemyth looked up at him in delight. The elation in Ivander's eyes was plain to see. Even his grip on Aemyth's shoulders tightened.

Meanwhile, I stood by the sidelines, looking like a background character who wasn't meant to be there.

Once the congratulatory voices died down a little, I finally asked, "Why did Aemyth use my choreography in the tryouts?"

That was when Ivander's smile froze on his face.

"Both of you learned the same dance style. It's completely normal for her moves to mirror yours."

"Is it normal for her entire routine to be the same as mine, then?"

Ivander walked over to me, soon shielding me from the guests' inquisitive gazes.

"Let's not talk about this today. There are plenty of chances for you to dance again onstage in the future."

I just looked at him without bothering to argue with him.

The truth was, I had never shown my choreography in public. Ivander was the only one who watched it in the past.

He used to sit in front of the mirror and watch me tweak my movements repeatedly in the dance studio. He even personally recorded the entire choreography for me.

At the end of the footage, I had walked over to him and told him that the choreography was all about our love story. Back then, he had kissed me on the forehead and told me that he adored it.

Now, he'd given the choreography to Aemyth, yet here he stood, telling me not to make a big deal out of it.

"Aerith?"

Ivander wrapped my shawl around my shoulders properly while waiting for me to yield to him as I always did.

Slowly, I unclenched my fists.

"Nothing."

A long time ago, I had reached out to my beloved mate repeatedly in that dance piece.

But from now on? Never again.

Ivander spent a week in town. He gave me the witch's potion and a treatment plan. I had Martha pass those things to my healer for further diagnosis. The outcome the healer gave me was the same as the one she had given me three months ago. While the potion could heal my remaining wounds, it couldn't bring Nora back.I went along with the treatment plan and received my treatment. Still, I didn't plan on seeing Ivander again. The potion was meant to be used on me, to begin with. I didn't have to use anything to exchange for that potion.Meanwhile, Aemyth was officially detained by the police. The security camera that was installed in the studio had recorded the entire attack. Soon, the footage and the driver's testimony were given to the investigators in charge of the case.My father, Erick Nightbloom, called me and asked if I could avoid escalating this incident for old times' sake."Aemyth is genuinely terrified of the consequences."I looked down at the bruises on my arms. Ivander's hands were still trembling.First, he inspected my shoulders, then my torn clothes. When he was sure that I wasn't bleeding at all, he finally pulled me into his arms."You're still alive…"Ivander buried his face into the crook of my shoulder. Because of that, his voice came out extremely faint and muffled."I knew it… I knew that you weren't really…"I tried to push him away. "Release me."Ivander froze momentarily, but he soon tightened his arms around me."I'm sorry, Aerith. I shouldn't have abandoned you and made you wait for me. Can you please come home with me? The healer is waiting for you. I left everything at home untouched, just the way it is."Aemyth's voice grew fainter as she was dragged into the distance.I managed to push Ivander off me this time."Your Luna is already dead.""No, you're right here!" Ivander shook his head frantically. "I knew that corpse wasn't you! When we went to the morgue to inspect the corpse again, it had already vanished int

On the day Lily received her award, I sat in the audience while clutching her spare ribbon tightly. After Lily performed her final dance move skillfully, she bowed to the judging panel before turning around to wave at me happily. When Noah snapped a picture of this moment, I belatedly realized that I had tears streaming down my cheeks. After the award ceremony, Lily stuffed the medal into my hands."You can wear it for the time being, Ms. Lakeshore!""You're the one who danced beautifully, Lily.""But you're the one who choreographed the dance for me, Ms. Lakeshore!"Lily insisted on slinging the medal around my neck. Then, she had us take some pictures together. The competition's organizer soon posted those pictures. My new name was listed as the choreographer of Lily's dance.Noah made reservations at a restaurant. He promised me that he'd pick me up the next day to celebrate Lily's victory together. The next evening, I stayed behind in the dance studio because I needed to

Someone placed a glass of water by my hand."You should have some water. Your hand is still trembling at the moment."I looked up to see Noah Thorne standing by my table. He didn't inquire about the werewolf who was featured on the television; all he did was pick up the pen and slot it back into the pen holder."Thank you.""Lily is changing into her ballet flats. She wants to be the first one to enter the studio."I looked at the door, where a little girl could be seen waving at me while hugging a pair of dance flats to her chest.Noah was my childhood friend. When he was ten years old, he and his parents moved out of the Bloodmoon pack. Since then, we fell out of contact with each other.Just a week after I opened my dance studio, he came here with his niece, Lily Thorne. Having worn a mask, I began filling him in on my dance lessons. He had just listened to a few sentences before he called out my name all of a sudden."Aerith?"I gripped the registration form without resp

Three months later, I put up the first class schedule in my dance studio. Martha helped me steady the ladder. As she looked up at me, she pointed out, "The right side seems to be a little low."I rearranged the picture frame before climbing down the ladder slowly.I got tired very easily now that I had lost Nora. My palms were already sweating even though I did nothing but hang a printed schedule.Martha passed me a tissue. She also placed a letter on the table. It turned out that the committee had mailed me the outcome of their investigation. Aemyth had been disqualified from the showcase. The page featuring her performance was already taken down. At the same time, my name was listed as the actual choreographer of the dance piece. As I caressed the words printed on the letter, I asked, "What happened to Aemyth?""Based on the records handed over by the driver, the police wanted to arrest her on suspicion of attempted murder. Your parents refused to keep providing for her. They

Ivander was thunderstruck when he received the news. Disbelief was written all over his face. His cool and collected demeanor vanished instantly as he demanded loudly, "Where's Aerith? Is she still in the villa?"He knew very well that I no longer had Nora with me, so I couldn't make a quick getaway. If I truly got stuck in the villa, I'd be dead for sure.Timothy fell silent for a long time. Finally, he replied, "The rescue workers did mention that a werewolf was stuck inside the villa. But they weren't sure if it was Luna Aerith."Ivander's jacket plopped onto the floor at that moment. He shoved Aemyth, who was still trying to stop him, away before rushing out of the manor. On the way there, Ivander kept calling my number. The moment he heard the automated message about my phone being turned off, he quickly contacted my healer, butler, and even my parents. No one had seen me since the fire broke out."Maybe she wasn't even at the villa." He grasped his phone tightly. "Or maybe
