Chapter 3

Author: Eirlys
The sharp smell of antiseptic stung my nose. I slowly opened my eyes to a world of sterile, freezing white.

"You're awake? Then stop playing dead."

A cold, familiar voice echoed by the bed.

I turned my head and saw Julian in his white healer's coat.

He was the pack's lead healer, and one of my former targets.

Once, when I was spiraling into severe depression from Caleb's emotional abuse—terrified of failing my mission and on the verge of a breakdown—Julian had saved me.

He listened to my secrets. He took me on midnight drives by the ocean. He stayed up all night with me on mountain peaks looking at the stars, and when I cried from nightmares, he would pull me into a gentle hug and whisper, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."

He even broke his own rules, bringing me into his private lab where no one else was allowed, letting me handle his most prized medicinal herbs.

Back then, his love meter hit eighty. I really thought I could win him over.

But when Chloe cried about the rogue attack, Julian's warmth turned to biting frost.

In front of the whole pack, he threw my depression medical records right in my face. The paper gave me a paper cut on my cheek, drawing blood.

"Freya, how can you do something so vicious and still have the nerve to fake an illness for sympathy? You make me sick!"

That day, his love meter plummeted to zero.

"Healer Julian," I croaked. I didn't look sad at his coldness like I used to. "Why am I here? Who brought me in?"

Julian frowned, a flash of irritation in his eyes.

"You don't know? Didn't you fake passing out just to end up in my clinic, trying to get my attention?"

I didn't even have the energy to explain.

I was just so tired. Even breathing felt like it was draining the little life I had left.

Seeing that I wasn't frantically defending myself or crying like before, Julian's frown deepened.

My silence—and the heavy aura of death clinging to me—made him inexplicably anxious and irritated.

"Don't look at me with that half-dead expression!" Julian ripped off his gloves roughly. "This is a clinic. I don't want anyone seeing you with me. Come back to my apartment. I already called Caleb."

I didn't have the strength to fight him, so I let him drag me back to his private apartment.

Not long after, the door flew open.

Caleb strode in, followed closely by Victor—who had just finished his bonding ceremony—and Chloe, who was carefully tucked against Victor's side.

The moment Chloe saw me, she flinched, shrinking into Victor's arms like a terrified little rabbit.

"Victor... I'm scared..." Her voice shook, her eyes instantly welling with tears.

Victor's face turned terrifyingly dark. His Alpha warrior eyes locked onto me like daggers.

"Freya, are you hellbent on making everything about you?!" Victor suppressed his roar. "Today is my bonding ceremony. First you harass Caleb, now Julian. Have you no shame?!"

"Wasn't hurting her enough for you?" Caleb sneered. "Freya, are you done with your little games? Apologize to Chloe immediately!"

I gazed at the three men standing before me. The men I once thought were the most important people in my life, who now wished I was dead. Then I glanced at Chloe hiding behind them, a faint, hidden smirk on her lips.

Suddenly, I started to laugh.

The laughter grew louder, sounding harsh and manic in the empty apartment.

"What are you laughing at, you psycho?!" Victor snapped in disgust.

I stopped laughing, wiping a tear from the corner of my eye, and slowly scanned each of them.

Since I only had less than seven days to live, and the mission was already a failure, why should I keep carrying the blame for things I never did?

"What if I told you... she was the one who hired those rogues to attack me?"

Her inner wolf had been entirely destroyed, her beautiful face twisted in agony. And Caleb—my proud Alpha brother—was kneeling beside her, looking completely unhinged. He held a silver blade, neurotically slashing Chloe's skin open again and again."Does it hurt? Chloe, is this how much Freya hurt?" Caleb sobbed, laughing like a maniac. "I'm avenging you, Freya... your brother is getting revenge. You forgive me now, right?"Julian and Victor stood by coldly, looking like they were enjoying the show."What a great show of dogs biting dogs," Rowan's icy voice echoed through the hall. The three men jolted, slowly looking up.Ro

The video on the phone showed security footage from an underground rogue bar.In the video, the sweet, innocent Chloe—who supposedly wouldn't even hurt a fly—was gracefully swirling a glass of wine.Sitting across from her were several vile, stinking rogues.Chloe pushed a heavy briefcase full of cash toward them, a sickening smile on her face. "Make sure you torture Freya well. Remember, no visible scars. Half a million dollars, that's your payment."The scene shifted to a dark, damp basement.I was suspended by chains, covered in blood. The rogues used special whips to lash me over and over again.I screamed and begged, but they only laughed harder. And Chloe? She stood just out of reach in the shadows, smiling as she watched me get tortured like she was admiring a piece of art.Even as a spirit, watching the darkest, most agonizing memory of my life made my soul shudder. The documents Rowan threw were proof of all the times Chloe had bullied and abused me behind their backs.Stack a

Back at the pack, the three men went completely insane when they realized I was gone. They tore the territory apart, searching for three days, until they finally found this desolate graveyard.Caleb was the first to arrive. His normally proud, arrogant Alpha eyes were now bloodshot and terrifying. When he saw the name Freya carved into the stone, it was like a physical blow. He dropped to his knees."No... this is impossible! This is a lie!" Caleb screamed like a madman. His hands dug frantically into the hard earth. His nails cracked and bled into the dirt, but he didn't even flinch. He just kept digging and screaming, "Freya! Come out! You're tricking me again, aren't you?! You liar! Come out!"Julian collapsed right behind him.His legs gave out entirely. He didn't even have the strength to hold himself up, just laying in the mud, letting out a wretched, guttural howl like a wounded animal.Victor stood completely still, looking like his soul had been ripped out of his body.He didn

In the faint moonlight, I recognized his face.It was Rowan. My personal guard, and one of my original targets.Gazing down at me, hooked up to tubes and machines, barely clinging to life, Rowan's eternal ice-king expression completely shattered. His eyes were bloodshot, and his fists were clenched so tight his knuckles were white.I was a bit surprised.I had tried to win him over back in the day, but he was always so resistant, pushing me away like a block of ice I could never melt.I thought he hated me, so I eventually gave up.I never expected him to show up now."Rowan..." Ignoring the pain, I weakly reached out and grabbed the hem of his shirt, clinging to him like a lifeline. "Take me away... please... I don't want to die here."Hearing my plea, Rowan's entire body trembled."Okay. I'll take you away."His voice was hoarse, thick with suppressed tears.Without a second of hesitation, he moved quickly and gently, pulling all the cold IVs and life-support tubes from my body. The

I thought for sure I was dead this time. But instead, I was trapped in an endless darkness. My ears rang with chaotic noises—Caleb's broken sobs, the screech of stretcher wheels rushing down the clinic halls, and Victor and Julian's unhinged shouting."Get out of the way! Let me do it!" Julian's voice trembled like never before. His hands—the steady hands of a surgeon—shook so badly he couldn't even hold the forceps."Damn it! Why won't the bleeding stop?! Why isn't she healing?!" Julian violently threw a tray of bloody gauze to the floor, his eyes bloodshot as he grabbed his assistant by the collar. "Silver poison is strong, but with her werewolf constitution, she shouldn't have zero healing ability! What the hell is going on?!""Healer Julian..." the assistant pointed shakily at the monitor. "Freya... she doesn't have any inner wolf energy left to draw from. Her inner wolf... has completely withered away.""What did you say?!"Victor's massive frame jerked. It was as if all the stren

The room fell into an eerie silence.Victor stared at me, a complex, deep panic flashing in his eyes.He seemed to be searching my face for any sign of a lie, but my eyes held nothing but absolute peace. Now that I knew I was getting a new life, I didn't care about these people anymore."Victor... let's go. My sister looks like she needs rest." Chloe softly tugged at his shirt, her voice sickly sweet.Victor snapped out of it. As if trying to cover up his momentary lapse, he scoffed and let go of me in disgust. "You better behave. Freya, don't let me catch you playing any more tricks."Caleb and Julian stood to the side, looking like they wanted to say something, but I just closed my eyes, pretending to sleep so I wouldn't have to look at them.I didn't want to spend my final days listening to their insults.I remembered when Victor was diagnosed with a rare blood disease and was at death's door.I begged the System to make my blood compatible with his, and then I let them drain half t
