Chapter 3

Zack's POV

A kind-hearted passerby was the one who sent me to the hospital.

The doctor informed me that my old leg wounds were showing signs of inflammation again.

I closed my eyes. The tears that slipped into my mouth tasted incredibly bitter. I couldn't stop thinking about how Rebecca had left without sparing a single glance back at me.

Just then, my phone chimed. Someone had sent a photo to me.

Rebecca was partially undressed in the photo. Hayden's head was lowered as he brought his face close to her chest. His lips were inches away from her skin. He sounded incredibly smug in the voice message that I received a few seconds later.

"Becca was feeling a little sore because of her pregnancy. I couldn't bear to watch her go through the pain of using a breast pump, so I had no choice but to take things into my own hands."

Disgust roiled in my gut. My hands were shaking when I unlocked my phone and uploaded a post.

"A top-class race engineer was caught cheating with her husband's apprentice. Her husband was cast aside after they broke his legs."

I also attached the explicit photo that Hayden sent me with the post.

It didn't take long before the post reached the top of the trending chart. Everyone criticized Hayden for being utterly shameless even though he was the kept man. However, a few moments later, the post was buried and replaced by an official statement from Rebecca.

"Zack Wilson is mentally ill. I divorced him long ago. Everything he posts online is fake."

I crumpled to the floor in despair. I remembered how Rebecca had vowed to love me for the rest of my life when we got married. She also swore that she would never get involved in the racing industry again after I broke my legs, wanting to make amends by resigning and staying by my side.

It turned out that she had just made false promises to me. The sincere vows that she made when we were young had ultimately turned into nothing but jokes.

Rebecca finally called me after releasing her statement. Her voice was thick with disappointment when she said, "Hayden had a tough time getting to where he is now, Zack. Do you have to ruin everything for him?

"He keeps making a fuss about wanting to take his own life. He's still so young. I'm worried that he'll actually do something drastic in the heat of the moment. You need to clear his name right now and apologize to him in person."

It felt as if there was a pocket of air lodged in my throat that refused to budge. I gritted my teeth and forcefully stopped myself from crying.

"You want me to apologize to him? Who's going to apologize to me for breaking my legs and ruining my career then? Why are you defending him so fiercely, Rebecca? Where has your conscience gone?"

My legs throbbed as if they could feel my pain. Although I tried my best to suppress my emotions, in the end, I couldn't help but let out a roar of frustration. It was as if I was finally letting out all the troubled and upset feelings that I had kept bottled up within me for so long.

Not expecting my explosive reaction, Rebecca fell silent for a long time. In the end, she said hoarsely, "If that's the case, don't blame me for what happens next. Hayden's the father of my child. You'll have to pay for the consequences of your actions since you hurt him."

She immediately hung up after she was done speaking, not bothering to wait for my response.

The next day, a certain post shot to the top of the trending chart.

"The genius racer is actually a public pit-stop? He sold his own body to secure his first place spot on the podium."

The article was 3,000 words long. The person who uploaded the post claimed that they were an insider. They also said that to secure first place in the race, I had willingly crawled into the bed of my team lead, who was in her 50s.

An old and wrinkled arm was wrapped around my waist in the photo that was attached to the post.
