Chapter 4

Author: Litchi Froot
Zack's POV

There was a loud buzzing in my ears. I was a racer from the sticks, so I didn't have any power or influence. Knowing that I wouldn't have the guts to resist, the racetrack supervisor decided to take advantage of me.

In the end, the supervisor was fired, but I was still immensely traumatized by what happened. The only other person who knew about what happened to me was Rebecca.

Hayden also chimed in, "Becca and I have been friends since we were kids. She promised to marry me after we grew up, but Zack drugged her and forced her to marry him instead by threatening to leak her private photos."

People immediately began to harshly criticize me after they saw how hard Hayden was crying.

"I can't believe that someone like him became a racing star. All kept lovers should just die!"

"A higher being must have broken Zack's legs because they couldn't stand his despicable actions anymore."

I nearly couldn't breathe under the weight of all the criticisms. My wounds ached terribly, causing a thin layer of sweat to bead across my forehead. I crumpled to the floor, being choked by a suffocating sensation.

Just then, Mom called me. "What the hell is happening online? Come home right now and explain yourself to me!"

Mom had a heart issue. She couldn't handle even a little bit of stress.

I was slapped across the face the moment I stepped across the threshold. I was utterly stunned as I covered my cheek with my hand. Only then did I realize that Rebecca was there too.

Mom's entire body trembled from anger. "Get on your knees! I didn't spend so many years raising you to be a homewrecker, Zack Wilson!"

I tried to explain myself, but she immediately cut me off.

"Becca has already explained the entire situation to me," she said. "You're the one who has been coercing her the entire time. You even fooled around with other people behind her back!"

I turned to stare at Rebecca in disbelief. As expected, there was a mocking look on her face.

I wasn't even able to get a single word in before Mom hysterically grabbed a fistful of my hair and screamed, "Apologize to Becca and Mr. Erikson right now! I'll pretend that I never had a son if you don't!"

The anguish that I felt at being slandered surged forward at that moment. Powering through the pain, I snapped, "I'm being framed! Why do I have to apologize when I did nothing wrong?"

"You! Will you only be satisfied after you've angered me to death?"

Mom was heaving for breath before she suddenly pressed a hand to her chest and crumpled to the floor.

"Mom!" I screamed, lunging at her.

Mom's face was already turning purple. She couldn't even speak properly anymore.

My hands were trembling when I pulled out my phone. However, Rebecca snatched it away in the next second, saying, "You have to apologize to Hayden first if you want to call an ambulance."

I was teetering on the brink of a mental breakdown.

"I'll apologize to Hayden!" I screamed. "But please call an ambulance for Mom first! I'm begging you!"

Rebecca frowned before returning my phone to me. However, she stopped me in my tracks after the ambulance rushed us to the hospital, saying, "Grovel for Hayden's forgiveness right now! The doctors are forbidden from saving your mother's life without my permission!"

A driver had just dropped Hayden off at the hospital. A smug expression flickered across his face when he spotted me.

I nearly tore a hole in my mouth from how hard I was biting the inner walls. Ignoring my overwhelming sense of humiliation and reluctance, I fell to my knees in front of Hayden and said, "I'm sorry. I'm the kept lover."

"You can stop groveling whenever Hayden decides to forgive you," Rebecca said.

I bent down and slammed my forehead against the floor, doing it over and over again until the tiles were stained red with fresh blood. There was a loud buzzing in my ears.

Rebecca frowned slightly, looking as if she couldn't bear to watch me hurt myself. "That's enough. Go check on your mother. I need to go for my prenatal checkup."

When she turned to leave, Hayden suddenly moved his lips close to my ear. He had a wicked expression on his face when he whispered, "I just let your mother watch a few videos of you sleeping with different people. She seems pretty furious."

There was no way that Mom could take any more stress.

I had a complete meltdown as I scrambled to my feet and bolted for the emergency room. However, the doctor shook his head and said, "The patient experienced too much emotional distress. She also wasn't rushed to the hospital in time. We weren't able to resuscitate her."

My heart shattered into a million pieces. My entire body convulsed uncontrollably as a sharp pain lanced through the lower half of my body. My legs twisted until they became disfigured.

I was wheeled into the emergency room, but I wasn't given any anesthetic. I felt as if my very soul was being destroyed as an overwhelming pain washed over my body.

"Your old leg wounds are acting up again. You might be able to stand again one day if the recovery process goes well. But you definitely won't be able to race ever again. My condolences."

I numbly lifted my head, feeling as if my entire world was falling apart.

…

After handling Mom's funeral by myself, I dragged my broken body back home.

The house was the marital home that I shared with Rebecca. She had even intentionally written my name on the deed because she was worried that I would feel insecure. I couldn't help but let out a mocking laugh as I looked around the messy house, feeling tears stream down my face.

After sending two documents to Rebecca using an expedited delivery service, I turned around and threw the lit lighter at the curtains.

I closed my eyes in despair as I watched the sea of flames reach toward the sky. I then jumped out of the window.

"If there's a next life, I hope that we'll never meet each other ever again, Rebecca Samson," were my last thoughts.

…

Meanwhile, Rebecca was sitting in her office when her assistant suddenly burst into the room.

"We just received an expedited delivery, Ms. Samson! There's a medical record and a divorce agreement in the package!"

Zack's POVI took a deep breath and tried my best to get my emotions under control again."We don't have anything to do with each other anymore, Rebecca," I said calmly. She shook her head wildly and shouted, "No! I won't accept this! I've already ripped the divorce agreement to shreds! I know that you're still angry at me, Zack. Please give me another chance.
