Chapter 3

Author: Snowy
Violet's hand was trembling, and she looked visibly nervous. However, the moment I mentioned adding her name to the deed, her face lit up.

"Did you change your mind?" she asked.

"Yeah. After all, we are married. Plus, your colleague is living there. It'll be easier for you to manage the place if your name's on the deed too."

"That's great, honey! You've finally come around!"

Feeling overjoyed, she got to her feet and planted a kiss on my cheek.

Suppressing my disgust, I forced a smile onto my face and added, "But after giving it some more thought, I think it might be better for us to sell the apartment."

I went on, "Real estate prices are still fairly reasonable right now. We could sell it and get a bigger house. It'll be more convenient to stay in a bigger place when our daughter gets older as well."

Her expression instantly stiffened.

"Sell it?" she asked, suddenly sounding anxious. "I don't think that's a good idea. The market isn't exactly great right now."

I gave her a noncommittal grunt and continued eating.

I didn't press the issue, but I knew my suggestion had successfully caused her to panic.

Just as I had expected, she had trouble falling asleep later that night.

When I pretended to snore, she immediately got up and slipped out onto the balcony to make a phone call.

"He wants to sell the apartment… Yeah, that apartment… I'm trying to figure something out too…"

Then, she lowered her voice and said gently, "Don't worry. I won't let him sell our home."

Their home?

I scoffed and gently shook my head as I recorded the conversation with my phone.

I paid for that apartment in full, and every cent they had spent on renovations had come from my savings account. Yet, she was claiming the apartment belonged to them.

"Yeah, he agreed to add my name to the deed," I heard her say. "Once I have ownership rights, I'll transfer the apartment to your name. Then, you'll officially own the place."

Once she returned to bed and blissfully drifted off to sleep, I unlocked her phone and pulled up her chat history with Howard.

She really trusted me.

In other words, she simply assumed that I was too stupid to notice what she was up to.

The earliest messages were sent two years ago, and Violet was the one who contacted him first.

"Want to grab dinner tonight?" her text read.

Howard agreed.

At first, it was dinner. Then came the movie dates, shopping trips, and gifts. Soon, they started checking into hotels and dreaming about their future together.

Five months later, Violet sent him another message.

"I found an apartment for you. Go take a look and see if you like the place."

Howard was ecstatic.

"Does this make me your sugar baby, Vi?"

Violet replied with a string of bashful emojis.

"You're so naughty," she texted back. "I'm going to wear you out tonight—just you wait."

I took screenshots and continued scrolling.

"The renovation company said everything will cost 40 thousand dollars, Vi. Isn't that a bit expensive?"

"It's fine. I have money. Just do whatever you want."

I took a photo of every single message, and I ended up with more than 300 screenshots.

Glancing at Violet, who was sleeping soundly next to me, I suddenly felt a bit dazed.

I had been with the same person for years now. Her face had always looked beautiful, innocent, and slightly mature. I had never imagined that she'd be a completely different person behind closed doors.

Over the following week, Violet continued to "work overtime" for a day or two like she usually would. While she was occupied, I kept myself busy as well.

I placed all of my assets—including my savings, my car, and my house—under legal protection. On top of that, I also had all of the evidence of her affair officially notarized. This included audio recordings, chat logs, and bank statements.

By the time everything was in order, William had sent me a draft of my divorce papers.

"If she refuses to sign it, we'll file for divorce immediately," he said. "She cheated on you—and we have plenty of evidence to prove it. If this goes to court, the judge won't be nearly as lenient," he said.

After taking care of everything, I finally began to set the trap.

During the weekend, while Violet was also at home, I pretended to make a phone call in front of her.

"Yeah, that's right. The apartment is at Riverbank Residences. I want to sell it. I won't consider anything lower than 90% of the market value.

"Yeah. Please make the necessary arrangements as soon as possible."

The moment I hung up, Violet rushed over and grabbed my arm.

Panic was written all over her face as she cried, "I thought you said you weren't going to sell it! Why are you—"

"I changed my mind."

After the divorce agreement was signed, the rest of the proceedings went smoothly, and the division of assets was fairly straightforward. Since I had purchased the apartment at Riverbank Residences in full before our marriage, it naturally belonged to me. As for custody of our daughter, Violet decided not to fight for it and gave it up without further dispute.Regarding the money she had spent on renovations, she signed a repayment agreement after the expenses were officially notarized. In the end, she only managed to walk away with the car her family had gifted us as a wedding gift. She had already squandered all of her money a long time ago.On the day we finalized the divorce, she stopped me outside the courthouse."I'm sorry, Damian."I turned around to look at her. She looked utterly disheveled. "I was wrong," she said.I nodded in agreement. "You were wrong from the very start," I declared. "You lied to both Howard and me. You enjoyed having two men at your beck and c

I stood there and stared at Gretchen with a faint look of amusement. "Your daughter used my money to renovate a home for her lover. On top of that, she also slept with that man in an apartment that belonged to me. Is this what you call a 'good woman?'" I asked."I—""Any woman is better than her."…Two days later, William called."Howard has moved out of the apartment," he said."Okay. Is something wrong?" I asked."He took everything he could dismantle. Now…" he trailed off."He can do what he wants," I replied with a small laugh. "As long as he doesn't tear down any load-bearing walls, I don't really care.""There's something else you should know," William added, his tone shifting. "I heard Violet's going around borrowing money. Her accounts are all frozen, and her credit cards aren't working anymore.""Borrowing money? For what?""Apparently, she hired a lawyer. She's planning to fight for custody of your daughter."I scoffed."She's welcome to try. I don't think the

I looked at her and laughed. "What did you tell me moments ago?" I asked. "You said that everyone makes mistakes and told me to be the bigger person. Now, you're asking me if I knew about this all along?""Tell me, Gretchen. When did you find out about all this?" I asked. She avoided my gaze and stammered, "I-I don't know anything…""Really?"I took out my phone and pulled up a screenshot. It was a text conversation between her and Violet. "Damian can't find out about what's going on at the apartment, Mom," Violet's text read."I know. Just make sure you handle everything properly," Gretchen replied. Those messages had been sent a year ago. "Are you still claiming that you knew nothing?" I asked.I watched as her face gradually turned red with embarrassment. "I-I thought that she was just fooling around…"I cut her off and finished her sentence for her. "You thought that nothing would happen as long as I never found out about it," I declared. She fell silent. I got

Everyone turned to look at me.Gretchen was the first one to speak up."Be the bigger person, Damian," she urged."Don't listen to him. Let's talk this out," Violet pleaded as she sobbed.I didn't respond and simply stared at them calmly.A cheating wife, a shameless homewrecker, and a mother-in-law who couldn't tell right from wrong. I laughed and gave William a nod.Upon seeing this, he immediately stepped forward and handed me the documents."Howard Sutton, right?" I removed the papers from the envelope. "Are you saying that this is your home because you designed the place?""That's right," Howard replied firmly. "Very well then. Why don't you show me the deed to the apartment?"He froze. "V-Vi has the deed…""Does she?"Shaking my head, I pulled out a property deed and roared, "Take a good look! I, Damian Richardson, am the sole owner of this apartment!"Howard's expression stiffened."Do you see this?" I pointed at the registration date."I bought this apartmen

Howard seemed completely oblivious to the tension in the room. Moments later, he enthusiastically introduced the apartment. "Since everyone's here, I'll just get straight to the point," he said. "I really love this place, which is why I spent so much money renovating it."He went on, "You're going to sell it either way. So, why not sell it to me? Just name your price."I didn't reply to his question. Instead, I asked, "Are you not willing to part with this place?""Of course not," he replied, "I built this place up little by little. On top of that…"He stepped forward and took Violet's hand. "This place holds some of our happiest memories together. No amount of money could ever replace that."He failed to notice that Violet was trembling uncontrollably. I nodded with a smile. "That's true. 100 thousand dollars is a lot of money. I can tell that you've put a lot of thought into designing the space."Grinning, Howard responded, "Well, Vi's always been generous."Gretchen wan

"Didn't you say you were going to add my name to the deed?" Violet asked."It's too much of a hassle," I replied. "Besides, after we sell it, the money will still belong to both of us."She froze. After a long pause, she grabbed her phone and said, "I-I should go inform the tenant…"I didn't know what she told him, but I couldn't care less.…The next day, I received a call from an unknown number."Hello, is this Mr. Damian Richardson? My name is Howard Sutton. I'm the tenant of your apartment."Holding my phone, I grinned. They took the bait."Yes, I am. Is there something I can help you with?" I replied."I heard you're selling the apartment. I'm interested in taking it off your hands. Can we meet up and discuss this in person?"How? Was he going to purchase the apartment with my money?"Sure. Let's discuss this in person at the apartment.""See you then."I hung up and gave William a heads-up. Afterward, I called my mother-in-law, Gretchen Munson.Gretchen was a stin
