They all stared back at me with different looks on their faces.

Alannah leaned closer to Ternen. “Will the vow hurt?”

I shook my head. “No, it’s just a vow to the goddess to keep whatever we say here secret, even under threat of command or death.” Alannah paled. I reached through the middle and held out my hand. “Don’t be scared. It doesn’t mean you will face death. It just means the goddess recognizes your sincerity for secrecy and she makes it so that we can keep our secrets.” I smiled back at her.

Ternen nodded. “I’m ready, but I don’t know what to say.”

I pulled my hand away and I turned in my seat, so that my back was pressed against the door. “I, Amy Maclean, vow to keep your words from everyone excerpt the goddess. I swear that nothing you say that could be used against you to cause harm will leave my mouth. Only the goddess will know our secrets and I beg her to keep them for us.” I felt the acceptance of my words settle in my chest. I nodded to Ternen, and he repeated my wo

The priestess dropped her hands and sat back. “Both of you will turn to each other and speak from your heart. Tell each other about your devotion, and your deepest feelings for each other. The goddess will be listening, and whatever you say will carry weight in her decision here today.”Shannon was already turning to face Brandon fully. She grabbed his hands and stared up at his face. “I’ll go first.” She glanced at the priestess, who just nodded. Shannon smiled, and everyone quieted to listen to their claims of devotion. “I remember my first day coming to the pack house. It was before I was to start at school. The only wolves I knew were my dad and Ainsley.” She sighed. “I was nervous about meeting the alpha. But then my dad brought me into Alpha’s Vince’s office, and you were there.” She blushed. “You were so serious, and wouldn’t even look at me, but I knew that day that I was going to mate with you.” She laughed as she shook her head. “It was a silly thought, but every year in scho

The priestess lit the brazier behind her and turned back to the couple on their knees. “I call to the goddess in her glory. We need your wisdom, and your blessing on the pairing I have before me.” She raised her hands and tilted her face up to the moon. “Mother of all, we call to thee. Come, bless this pairing. One was forsaken, their mate bond shattered. One passed over, their mate bond never found.” She looked back down at the pair. “They have chosen each other and forsaken all others.” Derek snorted a little, earning a glare from the priestess herself. He raised his hands and mouthed a quick sorry before she turned back to the pair. “As your loyal servants, we know your wisdom in our pairings, and beg your lenience and understanding with the two before me.” She turned back to the brazier and lifted a bowl of water from beside it. She shuffled to Brandon and knelt in front of him first. She held out her hand and waited. Brandon looked confused. “What?”The priestess smiled, but I c

Shannon turned back to Brandon with a smile. She stepped up next to him. “Are you ready?”Brandon’s eyes flicked to Vince, and then Garith stood. I watched him pale, and then he worked a smile onto his face. “Of course I am. I love you.” He leaned in and kissed her. “Let’s get mated.”He took her hand, and together they turned to the priestess. She waved them closer and smiled. “Come closer. The moon is already in the sky, and the goddess herself is staring down on us.” Shannon and Brandon both stepped up in front of the priestess, and then she waved her hand down to the pillows. “Kneel.” Shannon dropped to her knees first. Her one hand still in Brandon’s hands. She tugged him down. “Come on, babe.” She smiled up at him, and everyone could see his hesitation. Brandon looked back to the crowd. I watched as his eyes connected with Garith. He paled further when he saw Garith playing with a tiny ball of light. He did it in such a way that no one else noticed except me. The threat was th

The entire audience froze as his words echoed through the space. Vince’s smile tightened as he looked around the room. Shannon, and this is the only time I would ever feel bad for her, stumbled another step and Brittney giggled next to her. Brandon turned back to Shannon, realizing he wasn’t as quiet as he thought he was. He had the decency to look a little embarrassed. But he stepped forward and held out his hand for her, and she plastered a smile onto her face and stepped toward him. Brandon wrapped his fingers around hers and pulled her to his side. A quick whispered spell let me hear the rushed conversation. “I’m sorry; I didn’t mean for everyone to hear that.” He smiled down at her. “I’m just nervous.” He lied straight through his teeth, but I could see that Shannon was eating it up. “You know how I feel about you, right, baby?”“It’s okay.” She trembled as she stepped closer to him. “I understand. Of course, I know how you feel about me. You picked me over Amy.” I watched his fa

We got into the omega wing, and the other omega, Leanne, pushed me to shower in her room. She pushed me into her washroom and told me to strip. “They will be pissed if they smell champagne on you.” I took off my mask, and her mouth dropped open. “I knew it.” She whispered as she tossed me a towel. “Well, hurry!” Her eyes danced down my neck. “Your mate seems to be in a pickle, Alpha Amy.” I stripped and showered as fast as I could. I got dressed as Leanne managed to throw my curling hair into a messy braid. “That will have to do.” She looked at my face. “I want to ask you how you have made it this far without someone noticing you, but I already know. None of the ranked wolves in this pack look at our faces. Not even when they use our bodies.” She glared over my shoulder. Then, her eyes snapped to my face. “Except for you.”“Leanne.” I raised a hand to her shoulder, and she tried not to flinch away. “Once this is all over, you will be free of this place. I promise you that.” She nodded

Am I the stronger witch? I turned again to look at her face, even knowing she wasn’t there. I felt her hand disappear from my arm; I knew in my mind she had left me alone to figure out my next move. But her words kept bouncing around in my mind. Am I the stronger witch? Wolf, yes, a hundred times over. I knew that without a doubt. But I had never actually put my power against someone else’s. Not like this. I had broken runes and charms, even unraveled a love spell. But I had never fought against anyone. Never measured my power against another’s. Whoever put the rune on Vince, whatever power he was tapping into, could be stronger than I am.Nix snorted. You are overthinking it again.Megan sighed. I agree with Nix on this one. I’m not wrong, though. I dropped the sound bubble and redid the spell to listen in on Vince, Verity and Rowan. I have never fought with my power being the main attack. What if I fail? Then we all die; Rowan dies, we die. Nix looked up at me. And we leave our mo
