The sun had begun its slow descent when Sienna finally set the last folded shirt into her wardrobe. Her room still smelled faintly of new paint and fresh linen, but with every careful touch she added, it became less like a stranger’s and more like hers.

She smoothed the sheets until they lay crisp, tucked a sprig of lavender on the bedside table, and placed the framed photograph of Her, Adrian and the kids from the day at the amusement park sat at the heart of the room — her anchor. Their smiles, caught in mid-laughter, seemed to watch her with a kind of innocent encouragement.

She sat back on the edge of her bed, brushing her palms across her jeans, and let out a slow breath. Outside, the hostel was alive with noise. Voices spilled through the hallway — laughter, footsteps, a burst of music quickly shushed by someone more responsible. The air carried a crackle of anticipation, the kind that only came with first days.

The afternoon sun stretched lazily across the Hawthorne estate, its warmth spilling through the wide windows and falling across the polished marble like liquid gold. The house was quiet, almost too quiet, until Sienna stirred awake on the couch.A tiny body pressed into her side. Alina’s dark lashes fluttered against her cheeks, her small hand tangled in the hem of Sienna’s blouse. The faint smell of baby shampoo clung to her daughter’s hair, comforting in its simplicity.Just a few feet away, Leo sat cross-legged on the carpet with a book balanced on his knees. He was so absorbed that he didn’t notice her sit up at first. His lips moved faintly, mouthing the words, his brows furrowed in concentration.Sienna smiled, brushing a kiss against Alina’s temple before whispering, “What chapter are you on, Leo?”He looked up, blinking, the corners of his mouth twitching toward a smile he quickly suppressed. “Chapter seven. It’s about constellations.”“Constellations?” Her voice carried soft

The morning sun draped itself lazily over the Hawthorne house, washing the marble floors in a soft golden haze. The air inside carried that familiar polished scent — lemon oil, fresh laundry, and the faintest trace of lavender from the nanny’s hand cream. For all its grandeur, the house had always felt more like Adrian’s monument than a home, but today it felt… alive again. Perhaps because she was standing inside it, still half in disbelief that she had returned.Sienna placed her handbag on the console and kicked off her shoes, expecting the familiar patter of small feet echoing down the corridor. Alina usually charged into her arms, Leo trailed behind, quieter but no less eager. Instead, silence stretched through the house like an unfamiliar guest. Her brows knit. “Leo? Alina?” she called, voice tentative. No answer. The hush pressed in on her ears until it felt strange, wrong. Waves of PTSD washed through her. She made her way to the kitchen, where the soft clink of china finally

The night was heavy with silence, but Chloe thrived in silence. From across the street, leaning casually against a the seat of her car, she watched the sleek black car swallow Sienna Monroe whole. The tinted windows hid her face, but Chloe didn’t need to see. She knew the way Sienna moved, the careful tilt of her head, the softness in her posture. She had seen enough at the birthday party. Too much, perhaps. Her eyes lingered on the car until it merged with traffic and disappeared into the indigo veil of the city. Chloe let out a slow breath, the corners of her lips curving into a smile that looked almost serene — but it was anything but. It was a predator’s smile, a woman who saw the game board before her and already knew her first move.Sienna was back in Adrian’s life. That fact alone gnawed at her.“Enjoy your little beginning, darling,” she murmured under her breath, adjusting the strap of her silk blouse. “You won’t see me coming.”The streetlight above hummed faintly, buzzing a

The night before had ended with a slip of the tongue.“My wife doesn’t want me interfering,” Adrian had said, pressing a hand dramatically against his chest. The words had startled them both. Sienna had smiled, coy and sharp, reminding him, “I’m not your wife anymore, Adrian Hawthorne.”He hadn’t answered. He’d only smiled in that maddening way of his, the kind of smile that suggested silence was more powerful than words and the statement was in no way a mistake of his. The next morning, the air in their room was lighter, yet charged with something unspoken. Sunlight streamed through gauzy curtains, painting stripes of gold across the bed. Sienna stretched, pulling the sheet tighter over her chest, watching Adrian already at the edge of the mattress buttoning his cufflinks.“You were unusually quiet last night,” she said, her tone playful but probing. He glanced over his shoulder, his hair still damp from the shower, his expression smooth. “Was I?”“You said something,” she reminded

The morning air was still heavy with the aftertaste of laughter. Half-deflated balloons sagged against the high ceilings of the Hawthorne estate, ribbons trailed across polished marble floors, and the faint perfume of buttercream lingered where cake crumbs dotted the long dining table. The house, once alive with shrieks of children and music, now dozed in silence. Sienna stirred awake to the hush. The twins were tangled in each other’s arms at the foot of their bed, exhaustion written across their small faces, faint smiles still lingering as though they’d carried dreams of yesterday into sleep. She tucked the blanket tighter around them, kissed their temples, and tiptoed out. Downstairs, the light in the kitchen was soft, filtered through half-drawn curtains. Adrian was already there, sleeves rolled up, hair slightly mussed, a coffee mug in his hand. The sight stopped her for a moment—Adrian Hawthorne, the man who commanded boardrooms and sent rivals scattering, leaning against the
