I woke up shortly again.
I tried to sit up, but a piercing pain went through my stomach and drove me back down. Panic started as scattered memories of the attack tore across my consciousness. The cell. The knife. The chilly remarks of the woman. I looked down at my body expecting to see a bloody mess but I was bandaged up quite neatly. “You’re awake again.” I was jerked from my thoughts by a powerful, dominating voice. He was still sitting close to me. But this time around,he moved a bit closer, his violet eyes scanning me with curiosity. He looked very noble and elegant and there was something very alluring about him. “Who are you?” I croaked, my voice hardly a whisper. “My name is Jesse,” he said, pulling up a chair and sitting beside me. “I’m the one who got you out of that hellhole.” I stared at him, trying to piece together his motives. “Why did you help me?” Jesse’s lips curved into a faint smile. “Because you’re valuable to me, Bella. And because we have a common enemy.” Before I could question him further, he went to the bedside table and retrieved a thick file. “I thought you might want to know the truth about Julius.” The mention of my husband’s name sent a jolt of anger through me but I still asked curiously. “What truth?” Rather than responding, he gave me the file. “Everything you thought you knew about your husband is a lie.” A chill ran through me as I stared at the file on my hands, my fingers trembling. I opened it and started flipping through. There were lots of photographs, and detailed reports. I didn’t expect what I saw at all. There was a lab report detailing traces of a substance found in my system—poison. My eyes grew wide as I looked farther. There were emails between Julius and someone else, most likely the person that sold it to him, they were discussing the dosage and timing. One message read: "She might start to notice the symptoms soon. Be subtle. I need her gone by the end of the month.” This… this isn’t real,” I whispered, my voice breaking. Jesse said nothing at all. I kept reading, I saw photos of Julius meeting with doctors who specialized in undetectable toxins. And at the bottom, a copy of a fake medical record—entries created to imply that I had a terminal illness. “He’s been poisoning me,” I said, my voice barely audible. “All this time, he’s been…” Jesse’s calm voice cut through my disbelief. “He didn’t just want you out of his life. He wanted it to be as natural as possible. I don’t know why he hated you that much. Because he wanted to marry Athena, I remembered her words of her being pregnant. His grandfather would’ve never allowed her to come in while I was still in the picture. Tears distorted my view as I held the file tightly. My chest burned, I took a deep breath trying to calm myself and asked him. “Why are you showing me this?” “Because I want you to join me,” Jesse said simply. “Julius isn’t just your enemy. He’s mine, too.” I shook my head, the pain in my heart too intense. “I don’t trust you. How do I know you’re not lying to me?” Jesse leaned back, his expression unreadable. “I figured you’d say that. Which is why I'm showing you this.” He grabbed the remote and turned on the television. The screen flickered to life, and a news report filled the room. “…exclusive footage of Julius Stone spotted proposing in a private restaurant to his secretary. Sources say the two have been seen together multiple times over the past year…” The image on the screen showed Julius smiling, leaning close to the woman as they shared a toast. My hands trembled with anger. “He’s out there living his best life while I’m lying here like this?” Jesse nodded. “And he thinks you’re dead. That’s the only reason we have the upper hand right now.” My mind raced as I processed his words. If Julius thought I was gone, I had a chance to fight back without him suspecting. “Fine,” I said finally, my voice hardening. “I’ll join you.” Jesse smiled faintly. “That’s all I needed to hear.” He had a very gentle smile but I still didn't trust him completely, it felt as though he had too many secrets. I asked, seeing he was about to leave. “One more thing, Can I get a phone? I want to call my mother. She might be very worried. Don't worry, She wouldnt rat me out to julius.” He glanced at me a bit then placed a phone beside me “Suit yourself.” After Jesse had left the room, I reached for the phone beside me and dialed my mother’s number. When she answered, her tone was cold. “Who is this?” I realized I was calling from an unknown number, so I told her. “Mum, It’s me bella.” “Bella? Bella, what are you doing calling me? You’re supposed to be dead.” “Mum, is that the first thing you could say to me?” I said, desperation seeping into my voice. “You don’t understand,” she interrupted. “The world thinks you’re dead, and it’s just better that way. You killed his child. Athena had a miscarriage because you pushed her down the stairs. You know that Julius is way too powerful. Some say he even has connections to the mafia. He’s sending us a lot of money and resources because he believes you’re dead. If you come back now, you might only incite his anger again. “Do it for the family; be a good girl.” The line went dead before I could respond. I stared at the phone, tears streaming down my face. Even my own family had abandoned me. She didn’t sound happy to know I had survived. If everyone wanted me to stay dead, then so be it. But I won’t rest until I make Julius and Athena pay for everything they’ve done. It’s been three long years since Bella’s disappearance. I searched for her everywhere. I didn’t want to believe that she disappeared just like that. I despised her for the longest period. I loved Athena. Athena made me feel wonderful, she loved me for myself, and most importantly she was submissive and emotional. She praised me to the highs for the littlest of things. Bella, on the other hand, was always indifferent, she would cause problems all the time. And was very selfish. But for some reason, I had never felt lonelier since Bella left.I snapped out of my thoughts—I had a meeting with my business rival. Jesse Hart. He had wealth, power, and connections to the underground alliance, one of the most powerful alliances across the country. He had tried to snatch some of my business deals. But now, he suddenly reached out to me to collaborate. I wondered what he was trying to do now.I stepped into the meeting room, my eyes wandering as I observed my surroundings—until they landed o
After we got back to the penthouse— We decided to have a drink in my room to celebrate the beginning of our plans. He sat on the edge of the bed, swirling the last of his drink in his glass, a smirk tugging at his lips. “You handled him well today. I'm proud of you,” he said, raising his glass in a faux toast. I took a slow sip, feeling the bubbles tingle on my tongue. “I wanted to hurt him badly the minute I saw him,” I replied, my expression neutral, though inside, I was still raging. Jesse chuckled and set his glass down on the nightstand. “Still, you played your part perfectly. But tell me, Athena… Do you still love him?” My body stiffened, and I blinked my eyes, my heart skipping. “That’s none of your business.” “I think it is,” Jesse said, his voice dropping, his expression changing slightly. “This whole plan depends on you keeping your emotions in check. If Julius still has a hold on you…” I felt the anger swelling inside me, but I pushed it down. “I stopped loving Ju
I hardly had time to absorb the dread crawling up my spine before Julius crossed the room in two fast steps, right to where I was standing. His presence devoured the air between us; the room felt so suffocating. It had been so long since we were last alone, just like this. Before I could step back, his hands were already on me, gripping my waist with a sense of urgency that sent my pulse racing. His scent—chocolate and oud as always—I could smell it all around me, making it impossible for me to think clearly. Then, as he leaned in even closer, his lips brushed against my ear, his breath hot against my skin, sending an involuntary shiver down my spine.“Bella,” he murmured, his voice heavy with longing. “You don’t know how much I’ve missed you.”His words filled with suffering and hopelessness, coiled around me like a plea.“Come back to me. Please.”His lips wandered around my cheek before eventually finding mine—hot, urgent, and utterly consuming. It was a very demanding kiss… It did
She had lost consciousness.I had seen countless bloody bodies in my line of work. I had watched men beg for their lives, had stood over corpses without so much as flinching. But seeing her bleeding, so still in my arms, sent a fear through me that I had never felt before. A cold, paralyzing fear that tightened around my chest like a vice.I couldn’t lose her. Not again.Without wasting another second, I lifted her into my arms and rushed to the car. My men had already been dispatched, chasing after the car that hit her and fled. Whoever did this will pay.The second I got into the back seat, I pulled Bella closer, letting her rest on me. Her skin was growing colder by the second, her breathing faint. The car felt too slow. "Drive faste Luke!" My voice was intense, filled with barely restrained panic.Luke hesitated—a half-second of hesitation too long. "But sir, we’re already going way past the speed limit, what if—""You know what happens when I repeat myself." My tone was cold.Lu
No. Bella had to be lying. There was no way she was pregnant with Jesse’s child.I clenched my fists in anger, but then I recalled the way she kissed me. The hesitation in her touch, the fire in her eyes—she still wanted me. I could feel it.I smirked. I just need another opportunity to be with her again. As I stepped out, I could hear hushed whispers everywhere. A small crowd had gathered, murmuring amongst themselves. My gaze drifted to a small pool of blood on the ground."What a poor girl.""I wonder if she’s alright.""Yes, she had blonde hair…"Blonde hair.I froze. That sounded like Bella.I started panicking then I grabbed one of the onlookers by the collar. “What happened here?”The man scowled and tried to shove me off. “Let go of me—”I tightened my grip, and before he could say another word, my bodyguards stepped forward, towering over him. His expression changed instantly. He paled, trembling as he stammered, “I-It’s just a girl… A girl with blonde hair… She was hit by a

When Luke brought in the food, Jesse took a spoonful and moved it toward my lips. I instinctively pulled back, shaking my head slightly. “I can eat by myself,” I protested. Jesse’s expression remained calm but firm. “Your arm,” he reminded me. “You can’t eat by yourself in this condition.” I hesitated for a moment, glancing at my injured arm. Before I could respond, Daniel, who had been watching with an unimpressed expression, muttered under his breath, "She can still eat with the other arm, you know." He let out an exaggerated sigh before coughing and saying, "Alright, I suddenly have a lot of work to do. I’ll be back later to run the tests." He had no plans of sitting through the unbearable display of affection. Being reminded of how single and lonely he was? No, thank you. Without another word, he quickly left the room. Jesse, completely ignoring his actions, continued to feed me. I eventually gave in, taking each spoonful without protest. After I finished, he took a few
After hours of playing until our cheeks were pink and our fingers numb inside our gloves, Jesse suggested a swim to warm up.The chalet’s indoor heated pool gleamed invitingly, the tall windows letting in the soft light.Lucas splashed happily at the shallow end with Justin nearby while Jesse held our daughter carefully, letting her float gently across the water as she squealed in delight.I floated lazily, watching them, my heart so full it ached.This.This was everything.Until it wasn’t.It happened so fast I almost didn't see it.A shadow moved near the balcony windows.A figure —tall, fast, predatory —slipping silently into the pool room. And I saw the glint of metal in his hand.A knife."Lucas!" I screamed. The boy turned instinctively toward my voice — just as the man lunged.Everything slowed.I kicked off the wall hard, propelling myself across the water, but I was too far.Too slow.My heart crashed against my ribs, my scream tearing from my throat—When suddenly—Bang!
I leaned forward, heart tightening."Go on.""It's about his son."I froze. For a moment, I thought I misheard him."His... son?""Yes," Tomas said grimly. "The child Athena carried—it was his after all. After everything fell apart, no one claimed the boy. He's in the St. Mary's Orphanage on the east side of the city."I gripped the phone tighter."And no one's...?""No, miss. No one. He's been there since he was born."My chest squeezed painfully. I swallowed hard."Thank you for telling me," I said quietly.I ended the call and stood, my mind racing.I told Jesse everything. "I’ll drive," he said, grabbing the car keys without question. The orphanage was an old, crumbling brick building tucked away in a poorer part of the city.Children played listlessly in the cracked courtyard, most too thin, too wary.My heart ached just looking at them. Then I saw it.A small boy—maybe three years old—being shoved hard by two older kids.He stumbled, falling on the concrete, a bloody scrape bloo
Jesse took to fatherhood like he had been waiting his whole life for it.He hovered over both of us constantly —checking the room temperature, checking if she was breathing, checking if I was drinking enough water. It was both heart-melting and hilarious."Bella," he said one afternoon, practically bursting into our bedroom with a worried look, "I don’t think she’s eaten enough today."I blinked at him from the bed, where our daughter was curled against me, fast asleep and milk-drunk with a little smile on her face."Jesse," I said patiently,"She's fine. Look at her. She’s smiling."He scowled, arms crossed over his chest."I still think we should call the pediatrician."I laughed softly."We already called twice this week."He grumbled under his breath, coming over to sit carefully on the edge of the bed.Gently — so, so gently — he ran a fingertip along her tiny cheek. She yawned, wrinkling her nose, and Jesse froze, looking like someone had just handed him the keys to the univers

"Bella? Baby, what’s wrong?"I just stood there, frozen, staring at him.I held up the test with trembling fingers. For a moment, he just blinked at it.Then he looked at me.Then back at it.And then—He dropped to his knees in front of me so fast I gasped. His hands slid up my waist, cradling my hips gently. He pressed his forehead against my stomach, breathing me in.Trembling.Overwhelmed."Are you sure?" he rasped against my skin.I nodded, tears filling my eyes.A broken laugh escaped him — choked, joyful, raw.He wrapped his arms around my waist and held me so tightly I could barely breathe."I love you," he whispered over and over."I love you so much."From that moment forward, Jesse turned into a man possessed.Protective didn’t even begin to cover it.He treated me like I was made of glass wrapped in silk wrapped in diamonds."You’re not carrying a baby," I teased him one morning as he insisted on carrying me—literally carrying me—from the bedroom to the kitchen."You’re ca
"Come on," he said. "I have plans."I groaned dramatically, pulling the sheet over my head."More plans? I’m still recovering from last night’s plans."He laughed — a deep, beautiful sound — and tugged the sheet down gently."You’ll like these," he promised.Half an hour later, we were barefoot, hand in hand, walking along the beach. The sand was cool under our feet, the early morning sky painted in soft pinks and golds.Jesse led me to a small cove tucked away behind a wall of jagged black rocks. There, waiting for us, was a small wooden boat bobbing gently in the shallows. Two paddles rested inside. And a small wicker basket.I turned to him, raising an eyebrow."A boat ride? Seriously?"He smirked."A romantic boat ride."I snorted but allowed him to help me in anyway. We paddled lazily out into the open water. The island shrank behind us, a green gem floating in a sea of blue.Jesse opened the basket, pulling out cold lemonade, fresh fruit, and a blanket. We anchored ourselves wit

I sat up, rubbing my eyes, just as he strolled back into the bedroom carrying a tray.Coffee. Croissants. Strawberries. And that boyish, mischievous grin that always made my heart race."Breakfast in bed?" I teased, smiling sleepily. He set the tray down beside me and leaned in, brushing a kiss against my forehead."Not just breakfast," he said.I moved my head."Oh?"He sat down on the edge of the bed, his eyes sparkling with something... secretive."Get dressed, baby," he said, voice low and full of promise."We're leaving in an hour."I blinked."Leaving? Where?"He only grinned wider."You’ll see."An hour later, after much playful grumbling and teasing, I was dressed in casual jeans, a white shirt, and a soft leather jacket Jesse had insisted I wear. The car was already waiting downstairs.Sleek. Black. Windows tinted so dark you couldn’t see inside.I gave him a suspicious look as he opened the door for me."You're not kidnapping me, are you?"He laughed, the sound low and warm.
He slid the phone into his pocket and crossed the room toward me.I set the teacup down as he stopped in front of me.He didn’t say anything at first.Just stood there looking at me with something soft, almost vulnerable, in his eyes.I tilted my head."What?" I asked playfully. He crouched down in front of me so we were eye level."We have a wedding to plan," he said casually, like he was suggesting dinner reservations.I blinked. Then blinked again."What wedding?" I teased, arching a brow."Whose wedding?"He chuckled, deep and low, sliding his hands along my knees, pulling me slightly closer."Ours, baby," he said softly."I’ve annulled the marriage with Anna. It’s only right... we get married."For a moment, my heart stopped. The world spun. Not from fear. But from happiness so fierce it almost knocked the breath from my lungs."Ours?" I repeated, my voice a little shaky. He nodded.Eyes steady.Sure.Certain."You’re the only one I ever wanted, Bella," he said, cupping my cheek.
