With puffy and half-awake eyes, Irene left her room and walked towards the dining room after Melanie knocked on her door several times to wake her up, citing that Adam wanted to have breakfast with her. Irene felt so lazy to meet Adam, especially after his words last night that made her feel even lower about herself. For Irene, she felt that her self-worth had disappeared ever since Matthew, her stepfather, sold her to Adam.
Upon arriving at the dining room, Irene was immediately faced with a cold and silent atmosphere. Melanie, Vera, and Maya were all standing in the corner of the room with their hands clasped and their heads bowed.
"Sit." Adam commanded in a cold voice.
Irene remained silent and didn't move immediately as Adam had instructed. Eventually, Adam, who had been busy cutting his medium-well steak, placed his knife and fork down so forcefully that they made a loud clatter, startling Irene and the other three servants.
"Didn't you hear what I said earlier? Sit." Adam repeated.
Finally, Irene approached Adam and sat right next to him. Shortly after Irene sat down, Maya immediately approached her and helped serve Irene's steak, which had been prepared specifically for her.
Irene knew very well that Maya was actually very lazy to serve her, but the woman still did it to secure her safe position with Adam.
After finishing her steak, Irene began to eat her breakfast, which already felt like lunch. How could they have steak in the morning, complete with french fries and mushroom sauce that they made themselves?
"You're not pregnant yet?" Adam asked, breaking the silence and immediately making Irene stop cutting her meat.
The other three servants who worked for Adam briefly glanced at Irene and wondered about her current condition. Last month, the doctor who examined Irene said that she was already in her fertile period and could get pregnant at any time. Her body was strong enough to carry the Alpha's baby.
But strangely enough, until now, Irene has not shown any signs of pregnancy. She didn't even seem to feel anything in her body. No nausea, no mood swings, nothing was different about Irene's body so far.
"It seems not yet." Irene answered, lowering her head, trying to avoid Adam's gaze.
Adam cut his meat on his plate with all his strength, causing a slight screeching sound from the knife and plate that were clashing. "Can you even get pregnant or not?" Adam asked, then put down his utensils and looked at Irene with his cold gaze.
Irene also stopped, "I'm sorry.," Irene replied, feeling guilty towards Adam.
"I don't want to hear sorry, I'm asking if you can or not. Are you deaf?" Adam asked.
Irene's tongue felt dry, so she could only answer, "I will try."
Actually, not only Adam was hoping for Irene's pregnancy news, but so was Irene. She was really hoping for it.
"Call Doctor Dorothy today. Tell her to examine Irene's body thoroughly once again." Adam ordered, then Vera nodded in response.
"If she can't carry my child, just give her to Lucas.," Adam added.
Dorothy was a doctor who took care of Irene's health. In fact, only Dorothy knew that Irene was Adam's mistress. Others thought that Irene might have died after being sold to the Alpha. It was Irene's father who gave her away to Adam in exchange for money.
"Very well, Mr. Adam." Maya replied.
Irene's eyes widened upon hearing Adam's words. It was as if she was just a worthless object that could be handed over whenever Adam didn't need her. Unfortunately, Irene didn't have the courage to fight back. She could only stay silent, trying hard to hold back her tears from streaming down her cheeks.
Irene knew that Lucas was an Omega Werewolf who lived alone in the forest on the outskirts of Boris City. He always obeyed Adam's orders, no matter what they were. Irene feared that her fate would be the same as the other women who eventually became sacrifices for the werewolves. Their hearts would be eaten as if they were worthless.
After breakfast, Adam got up from his seat, wiped his mouth, and left. He briefly looked at Irene before leaving and returning to his room.
"And please remember your position. You know, I hate having to remind you repeatedly." Adam said before leaving, without waiting for Irene's response.
Maya approached Irene, cleaning up the leftover food from Adam, and glanced at Irene, who had stopped eating her breakfast. "What's wrong? Is the food not good? Do you want to eat vegetables only?" Maya asked in a harsh tone.
Irene was startled by Maya's words. "No. I will finish it," Irene replied before continuing to eat her breakfast. It tasted salty because of her tears that slowly flowed after Adam left.
Irene finished her breakfast and went back to her room, bowing her head. While crying about her sad fate, a pigeon suddenly landed on her window. Irene was surprised and approached the bird.
"Hello, bird. Do you feel the sadness that I feel right now?" Irene asked the pigeon.
The pigeon flew away, leaving Irene alone again. Irene looked at the vast forest in front of her. Like a light that was once dimmed but now lit up, a glimmer of an idea crossed Irene's mind. She looked down at the thick, non-thorny bushes below.
"Werewolves usually hunt and roam at night. Is this my chance to escape?" Irene whispered while looking down. After calculating her plan, Irene could run away into the forest.
Irene looked back searching for something she could use to escape from there. Armed with clothes in the form of a long dress, a bedsheet, and a blanket she usually used, Irene arranged them into a very long rope.
Irene's intention to escape had become more determined. Her heart could no longer bear the pressure that forced her to give birth to Adam's child, especially with her growing feelings for the cold-hearted man.
Before lowering the rope down, Irene glanced at the clock which showed 8 in the morning. In exactly one hour, Dorothy would come to check on her condition, and her whereabouts would be known by Adam's servants.
"I have to run far until my scent cannot be followed by them in one hour." Irene murmured.
Irene approached her room door and opened it, making sure no one was near her room area. After feeling safe, Irene closed and locked her room door slowly to avoid making any noise.
After successfully locking her room door, making the rope, and estimating the time, Irene smeared her entire body with the oranges she had in her room. Irene knew that werewolves did not like the pungent smell of the orange-colored fruit.
"This way I can escape." Irene said, then went to her balcony and lowered the rope hanging directly outside the house area.
Irene tied the rope to her balcony fence and slowly descended without making a sound. Gradually, Irene continued to descend little by little while monitoring her surroundings.
"Ouch!" Irene cried out when her barefoot stepped on the ground and hit a quite sharp branch that made her foot injured.
Blood slowly came out of her skin and Irene tore a little of her clothes to wrap her wound roughly to stop the bleeding.
The pain in Irene's leg was defeated by the fast-beating of her heart. After wrapping her wound with cloth, Irene immediately ran and occasionally looked back, making sure no one followed or knew about her departure.
A smile appeared on Irene's lips as she felt the freedom to run in the middle of the forest. Exploring every area of the forest and continuing to run following her instincts, hoping to find a way out that would lead her to Thibeult City.
"I have to run! I have to get out of here!" Irene murmured in her heart, as if giving her whole body a mandate to keep running tirelessly with her already injured barefoot.
After finishing her call with Joseph, Irene left the room, her thoughts still swirling with the revelation about Noah's werewolf lineage. As she stepped into the living area, she found Adam engrossed in a book. The room's warm ambiance provided a stark contrast to the cool and calculated atmosphere of the conversation Irene had just concluded.Adam looked up from his book, a gentle smile gracing his features. "Irene," he greeted, gesturing toward the plush sofa, "please, have a seat."Irene hesitated for a moment but then acquiesced, settling into the comfortable cushions. As she made herself comfortable, the scent of a delicious meal wafted through the air. The mansion's servants had prepared a spread on the dining table.Dinner was served in a silence that hung in the air, both Irene and Adam lost in their respective thoughts. The clinking of cutlery against plates filled the room, punctuating the quietude.Suddenly breaking the silence, Irene looked at Adam with a determined expres
The room, now a cocoon of guarded emotions, held within its walls the weight of revelations that transcended the mundane. Dr. Vaughan, the beacon of medical insight in this mystical realm, began to unravel the enigma that shrouded Noah's ailment."Noah's condition," Dr. Vaughan began, his tone measured, "stems from the unique nature of his werewolf lineage. Unlike typical werewolves, his werewolf side has not been touched by the energy of the full moon."Irene, her protective instincts flaring, interjected with a mix of disbelief and defiance. "Are you saying he needs to meet Lucian Hemmings to absorb the full moon's energy? Absolutely not!"Adam, acutely aware of the stakes, stepped in, suggesting a more private discourse with Irene. Dr. Vaughan, recognizing the delicate nature of the situation, excused himself, leaving the room in a hushed solemnity.Alone in the room, Adam and Irene stood on opposing shores of a heated debate. Adam, his expression grave, spoke with a calm determina
The journey to Boris City was swift yet laden with an air of uncertainty. The ambulance maneuvered through the city streets, eventually veering off into the outskirts, where the dense forest enveloped them. Adam, Noah, and Dr. Vaughan arrived at a secluded mansion that stood in stark contrast to the surrounding wilderness. The mansion, grand and luxurious, emerged from the woods like an unexpected oasis. The nurses accompanying them wore expressions of bewilderment, their confusion evident as they glanced around at the unusual sight. It was uncommon to find such opulence hidden within the Boris City woods.Noah, carefully cradled in their arms, was gently brought inside the mansion. The spacious and lavishly adorned interior seemed almost surreal against the backdrop of the forest. The nurses, perplexed by the peculiar setting, proceeded with caution, laying Noah in a grand room appointed with elegance.Expressing his gratitude, Adam thanked the nurses and accompanied them to the door
The morning sun painted soft hues across Thibeult City as Adam, ever vigilant, approached Noah's room. The previous day had seen shared laughter and a newfound connection between them, but as he opened the door, a hushed silence replaced the usual liveliness that accompanied Noah.Concern etched Adam's face as he observed Noah, who lay in bed, his small frame seemingly overwhelmed by the blankets. The vibrant energy that typically radiated from the young boy was replaced by a quiet stillness."Noah, how are you feeling?" Adam inquired gently, his voice conveying both care and worry.Noah, eyes half-closed, weakly mumbled, "Mr. Alpha, my head hurts, and I feel really hot."Adam's heart skipped a beat. Fever. Panic set in as he approached Noah's bedside. Swiftly retrieving a thermometer, Adam measured Noah's temperature, dread settling in as the numbers appeared on the screen—39 degrees. The urgency in Adam's voice was palpable as he reached for his phone. Dialing Irene's number, he anx
The sterile scent of the medical room lingered as Noah, a 10 year old with wide eyes and a mop of unruly hair, sat patiently. Dr. Vaughan, a werewolf specialist, prepared the equipment to draw a sample of Noah's blood. The room was adorned with medical paraphernalia, but the calming presence of Adam, known affectionately as Mr. Alpha, provided a sense of reassurance to Noah."Alright, Noah," Dr. Vaughan began, readying the needle, "this won't hurt much. Just a quick prick, and we'll be done."Noah nodded, his trust in Adam extending to the pack doctor. The needle pierced his skin, and a small vial filled with his blood. Noah, although a bit uneasy, maintained his composure, knowing that this examination was crucial for the werewolf pack's understanding of his heritage.Once the procedure was complete, Noah hopped off the examination table, glancing at the vial filled with his blood. Dr. Vaughan smiled warmly. "You did great, Noah. We'll have the results soon."As they exited the medic
Irene absorbed the weight of Joseph's revelations about the Hemmings werewolf pack, the conversation took an unexpected turn. Joseph, now seated across from her, hesitated before delving into a more personal narrative, one intertwined with his own family history."My father," Joseph began, his voice carrying the weight of years of solitude and rejection. "Theo Hemmings. He was a werewolf, and my mother, human. A union that was never accepted."Irene, her mind still swirling with the complexities of the werewolf pack's dynamics, listened intently as Joseph unraveled the story of his origins. He spoke of the challenges faced by a child born of both worlds, belonging to neither. The tale painted a picture of ostracism, of a young boy grappling with his identity in a world that deemed him an anomaly."I was never fully accepted, Irene," Joseph confessed, his eyes reflecting the scars of a tumultuous past. "The pack saw me as a threat, a reminder of a union they wished had never happened.
