Goodbye

When Blake’s gaze zeroed in on mine, the blush rose along my cheeks, colour and heat flooding them.

There was a strange, almost hungry look in his eyes that sent my stomach spiralling down and my heart hammering in my chest.

I drew my knees to my chest, wrapping my arms around me as if to protect myself. But it did little to tamp down on the look in his gaze. It probably didn’t help that I now wore one of the infirmary gowns that was like a long night shirt, finishing around the middle of my thighs.

“So…” he breathed out, his lips twitching almost into a small smile. “We are alone now.”

“We are.”

“For any particular reason?”

Suddenly, I found my hands and the blanket on the bed extremely interesting. My gaze dropped and my cheeks flushed even more, the flurry of movements in my lower stomach swirling greater.

After having to confront Deakin, and the onslaught of emotions that had swirled within me, I wanted to be braver. I needed to be braver.
