I kept stealing glances at Lily as she threw clothes into her suitcase, hair messy, lips slightly swollen from the night before at the bar. She had that tired-but-beautiful look that made it impossible to focus on anything else. “Do you really need three pairs of shoes?” I asked, holding up one of the boxes she’d tossed into her bag. She shot me a look over her shoulder. “I'm not leaving my shoes behind.” I chuckled, shaking my head. “You’re ridiculous.” “Hey,” she said, smirking, “I pack for survival, not for your approval.” We worked in silence for a few minutes, each of us trying not to step too close. But every time our hands brushed, my pulse jumped. I caught her looking at me more than once, that same little spark in her eyes that said she wanted me as badly as I wanted her. Her dad appeared behind her, holding a neatly folded stack of clothes. “Lily, here. Let me help,” he said. His tone was gentle, b
